  1. I do, it’s a physical job to be sure but it’s never boring. for retirement, you have NYCERS where being a city employee, you pay a percentage Out of your check for a pension. The MTA also offers 401/457K plans, although they don’t match your contribution. pros : lots of downtime during shifts, easy to make OT depending on where you pick, lots of positions to move up to (supervisor , third rail, signals, etc.) Cons: very Physically demanding, inherently a dangerous job (trips, slip, fall hazards all around you) , lots of health issues to consider (steel dust, creosote, noise from trains, etc). in all, if you have the strength and will to do it, it’ll be a good first job within the TA
  2. It’s 8 hours, a typical work shift. They will give you a couple of breaks during said meeting but I’d recommend taking the day off to soak in all the information.
  3. Good advice , man. We just finished picking for the next tour earlier this month and our class was the last to get day spots. I have no idea if I’ll wind up with that as a conductor.
  4. For track or for conductor ? I know offhand I’m 168 for track; I need to find out my list number for conductor though
  5. Hey , I just got an email/automated call offering me the conductor position too; thing is , I’m already in as a track worker. any advise as to change jobs or to stay as a track worker? I might wind up deferring to just to wait in deciding for now. I’m a bit older than most applicants and I’m interested more in a stable schedule than anything else. The on call aspect early on for conductors doesn’t sound appealing to me
  6. Question, is notarizing the NYCERS form needed? Reading contradictory info from both instruction sheets I printed out.
  7. Thank you for clarifying! I got an email telling me about the prescreening next Monday; do you know how long it goes for? I usually work a closing shift that day at my current job and I’d like to know if I have to take the day off to do the screening.
  8. I think what he meant is whether having a valid license is required for being a track worker. I have a permit and I’m worried whether that will effect my eligibility
  9. I thought so too; I have a permit; I wonder if that will affect my eligibility.
