  1. Are E-readers NOT allowed (those small thin electronic books like Kindle)? Are they catergorized as an Electronic Device? And if I am caught using it (reading on it) will I be penalized and taking out of service?
  2. Personal + Past experiences has lead me to live this life of solitude. At my current job I am the only employee who loves to be by herself, reading books during lunch in the cafeteria. Operating inside of that train operator's room/cab sounds like a good career for me. Do you like the break rooms where you work? side note: i drive uber too.... i like getting folks from point A to point B and i hate small talk with customers. but most customers are quiet, which i love
  3. Are some of those people in those titles that you Mentioned are really that bad? Makes me anxious. When you say Schedule Card, is that your schedule for that particular day and everyday is different? Is it possible to perform on this job without talking to any of your co-workers? I just want to operate the train as best as I can without dealing with co-workers (also hopefully not dealing with violent EDPs too! )
  4. i hope they give the 4000s a chance What shift is best for folks who don't like human interaction from coworkers / supervisors / dispatchers? AM vs PM vs Mid-nights?? I just want to be left alone.
  5. we all took this test in 2017. and teh list was certified in 2018. add 4 years to that and you get 2022. which is the year of expiration because each test only last 4 years. i was told this by 3 TOs in training right now, one in the august class i think and 2 in the nov or dec class. if you have a job just stay at the job and dont get hopes high for this... . i know i am not getting my hopes high
  6. yes for T/O. Another rumors has it is that they will close the List very soon, maybe this or next month so you are like in the last class ! make it count!
  7. happy new year everyone. any rumors on new classes? does Jan 10th has a new class right? who got in?
  8. It's almost X-mas! 1) Are we allowed to record video using a hidden camera or one of those Go Pros? (for our safety; so much crime lately is happening) Or is this not allowed? No electronics what so ever? 2) Are we allowed to wear digital watches that lights up? Or are we only allowed analog old style watches? 3) When is the current list expired? This is the 3rd Open Competitive in history I have read. I hope they will have a 4th or continue this Current list so some of us still has a chance. 4) How many Train Operators is MTA hiring? It seems like they hired a few hundred but they go up to the current list number now is 3000! 5) Is B division going to have all the newest tech and trains like the R211 I see in youtube? Does that leave A division with the oldest trains? I hope everyone has a good month and end of the year!!!
  9. I'm so happy to have found and be on this forum. I'm super new here so Im so glad to meet everyone. I did pre-employment recently in Livingston and waiting for medical. I got a bunch of questions if any veteran or new operators wants to answer, I will be so happy! I'm sorry if it's too much questions. I am SUPER nervous/anxious because I have always been working in a sheltered office environment all my life so please understand, some of these questions might seem ignorant, if they are...i'm really really sorry in advance. 1) How to deal with bullies on the job? Just ignore and carry on? I don't handle bullies very well, i have worked in some really toxic companies before and it was very bad for your mental health. I have learned to deal with them though. 2) Even if you use your cell phone for emergencies in the cab in "secret", you will be fired on the spot is this correct? I'm asking because I am assuming there are cameras in terminals and the control tower can see you use your cell phone? I am paranoid and I think it's best to leave cell phone at home? 3) I'm really really scared about the third rail. Do I have to walk on top of / around the 3rd rail a lot? 4) I am able to arrange an apartment and live in Manhattan if need be...so is it best to go to A Division? 5) I'm afraid of bad neighborhoods (honestly I have never been in one all my life), and I see that these Yards are usually in the outskirts of town. Should I Be worried? AKA: going home late at night after being on the road - and then i have to take mass transit home from those Yards sometimes in the early AM - should I fear for my safety? I am not tall / nor big / you can say I look like I cannot defend myself. 6) If I have a 12-9 incident as I read in the older posts, am I forced to take an Unpaid leave of absence indefinitely? 7) Are you forced to join the Union? Or can you not join the union? Are their PROS for NOT joining? Or would the decision for this be a no-brainer once / if I start? 8) Are train ops allowed to wear sunglasses during the day when they are outside on the rails? Again sorry for the rant as I'm not familiar with the culture here and sorry for sounding like a total ignoramus. I appreciate if anyone answers any of my questions that will for sure, help me decide if this career is right for me! Thanks a bunch!!!
