  1. hmm that second one came out really great, did you just time it right as it was leaving?
  2. I have those exact two lenses with my Canon Rebel XSi Railfanning the 18-55 is the only lens on my camera, in fact its there all the time except for when i go to air shows. My advice for railfan pix is know the good photo stations, the ones with the space at the end of the platform to take pictures of the trains. This isnt as important outdoors where you have enough light to get a clear shot of the train as its pulling away or coming in. I often take the same picture at a few shutter speeds to see what comes out best, its nice to have some choices when you are looking to post up stuff. The t1i might have improved slightly, i dont know but I know I cant get anything clear and sharp under 1/13th of a second. Outdoors just leave it in P mode and set the ISO speed to 200. Sports photography I don't have a lot of experience with, best bet is to experiment, its fast moving so you will need the zoom with a quick shutter speed, but not too quick that things get too dark.
  3. new plates start with F, any other ones are old number remakes on the new style.
  4. if a guy is in love with a transman (female changing to male) does that make them gay or bisexual? I been contemplating this philosophical dilemma for a few weeks now lol
  5. I been using Canon digital cameras since 2002, theyre the best. I first had a Powershot A10, then a Powershot A530, tehn a Powershot S5, now I have a Canon DSLR and its great.
  6. Theres about 3 or 4 trains that go that way, they are trains going to/from montauk heading directly to Jamaica Station instead of ending at Babylon. Theres I believe one or two late night trains that from there stop in Hicksville and/or Mineola.
  7. Whats a good place to see the M2s in action in Manhattan, is photography allowed in Grand Central?
  8. the truth is, as it turns out, one of my friends had one he had for a while and hardly ever used so i got it from him cheap, much cheaper than i would get it new. (and it wasnt like it was an expensive lens new anyway) As for getting together, I aint going anywhere untill this weather warms up
  9. ill have to test it out first at a local LIRR station, for practice
  10. its a crop sensor, my otehr two lenses are the EF-S variety. The 50 mm does have auto focus however
  11. Anyone here with dSLRs have a straight 50mm lens particularly the Canon 50mm EF f1.8, how are they in terms of taking pictures in the subway?
  12. I had an S5 IS, It was good for outside but inside it would have green lines in any photo that had florescent light. Personally I would just go to a dSLR, the Rebel XS is not much bigger than the S5 and you get a lot more quality. I havent been to teh city yet to test mine out but it works great for outdoor shots of trains. It all depends on your budget, how much you have to spend.
  13. the map looks amazing so far, im amazed you managed to fit the street detail in there as well
  14. depending on how you do the animations, you will need as many frames as there are for how many dots high the sign is, then in each frame have the new message start from the top and line by line replace the old message.
  15. i wonder if its possible to get em made into a font but I dont know how to do it
  16. they look great Do you draw out all those dots yourself or is there a font?
  17. The front end of those new trains look ugly. It would have been better if they stuck with the same design theme of the M7 like how the M1 and M2 looked similar.
  18. I have a Powershot S5, I have the ISO at 800 for subway shots, 400 for car interiors, and 200 for outdoors, and it works fine. The key is to be very steady when taking the shots, and make sure the station if its indoors is well lit.
  19. where do you guys get those G/O posters? I love looking at this thread and seeing all the cool stuff everyone has
  20. Here is my collection as of Sep 2 2009. The old LIRR stuff funny enough I found in the back of one of my kitchen cupboards when I was helping my mom clean a few months ago. I want to get those paper timetables from the subway, I dont know when the next time im gunna be in NYC is though.
