    BUS - Random Thoughts Thread

Just like how other SBS routes have deactivated machines late nights (like the Bx12 and Bx41) "SBS not running use the local"
  4. http://transportatio...vice change.pdf Some Highlights: Weekday: W1 gets a service boost between 4-8pm Weekend: Last 3 northbound W20 buses will skip Cross County (20X replaces 20) Sunday: W40 service will no longer service Westchester Community College W13 gets summer Sunday service to Rye (like the W76 did)
  5. It has one stop at South 11th Avenue & Sandford Boulevard in Mt Vernon, then runs on Mundy Lane for one block (north side of Mundy Lane is in Mt Vernon). Bx16 only runs in Westchester going going S/B only, going N/B it is completely in the Bronx.

    Select Bus Service Planning

The Bx15 local should be extended to 138 St when the Bx15 LTD gets converted to the Bx15 SBS in order to: 1. Give local bus riders another subway alternative instead of just 149 St 2. In order to keep the two local bus stops on Willis Avenue from being eliminated
  7. Also the 45 in Pelham Bay Park and the 54 on Mundy Lane.
  8. BxM3 running into Yonkers helps to bring additional riders to the route and to cut down on deadheads. People on Riverdale Avenue are closer to the BxM1/2/18 than Metro North, same thing with South Broadway and the BxM3. Most people from Yonkers use the 1/2/4 to the subway instead of the BxM1/2/3/18.
  9. Place advertisements for the Riverdale meetings in Getty Square (and the Yonkers MNR station) and on the buses as well so riders can see them.
  10. They should also advertise these meetings in Getty Square for BxM3 riders to/from Yonkers since they would be affected

    Bronx Division Bus Proposals/Ideas

Bx46 also serves Barretto Point Park and replaces the Pool Shuttle (Bx24 2nd version)

    Planned Subway Service Changes

The has to go local overnight anyway, so the makes more sense to be the express since it was express all night at the time. The also has a longer route in the Bronx than the with more stops. A rider to 241 St has a longer ride than a rider to Woodlawn.

    Planned Subway Service Changes

Yes, it also shows that MTA has to cut something, though the train at 12 minute headways was still more total Lex service than the train at 20 minute headways. Would you prefer an overcrowded train running express and no train at all? The was suffering because of the , not the . The is suffering more now due to the ending early almost every night, or not running much at all.

    Planned Subway Service Changes

Running the normally would mean the gets cut back to 12 minutes (like before when the had more priority) and the would have to run local to help the .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6_(New_York_City_Subway_service) Someone posted this: From January 21 to October 5, 1990, late night service was extended back to Brooklyn Bridge when late night express service on the 4 was restored. But the 6 was then cut back to 125th Street for the last time when late-night express service on the 4 in Manhattan was permanently discontinued. October 6 1990 would have been the last day as the 5th was a Friday. Anyone have a 1990 map service guide or , schedules that can confirm or deny this?

    Enhanced Station Initiative

The historical dual names are now eliminated in those stations. Looks like MTA has reversed their previous stance on keeping historical names with renovations (like on the ).

The Bronx express in the PM is extended a bit later. Instead of 7:43pm, the last express leaving 3 Av - 149 St now leaves at 7:55pm.

Regular Friday service after 8:30pm from Dyre to Bowling Green won't be running for the next several weeks either due to G.O.s The trains ran until 10:48pm, anything after that were trains to South Ferry. Looks like the and are going to be even more crowded on Friday evenings.

    SUBWAY - Random Thoughts Topic

MTA has decided to open the Clark Street Tunnel while the previous pick schedule is still in effect, so now we have these services running S/B for about 1 hour 241 - Flatbush Dyre - South Ferry Dyre - E 180 Going N/B after midnight we will have Flatbush - 241 South Ferry - Dyre E 180 - Dyre The Dyre line has both the and S/B until midnight 7 Av gets extra service at the expense of Lexington
  21. Is the SBS just as crowded on summer weekends when the local goes to Inwood (and Bay Plaza after Orchard Beach service ends)? The SBS and local on Saturday evening after 10pm both run the full route for about 30 minutes, on summer weekends after 8-9pm, the local and SBS run the same route (for the most part, on Sunday buses go to/from Edson Avenue until around 9:00pm).
  22. SBS routes would be a bit harder to change (look at all those machines that would have to be moved around)

Weekend Lex Service has been a disaster.

The , , and all share the same track north of 42 St. MTA apparently can't run weekend ,, and service at their normal headways when they do that, so something has to be cut. Usually the is cut to 20 minutes (or is cut completely), but because the is running 241 - Flatbush, they can't cut the now, so the gets cut (because it doesn't go to Brooklyn). One thing MTA did one weekend was cut the back to 125 St and run the and local to replace the . After 4:30am on Monday, the was by itself on Lexington for a bit because the stops running below E 180 St for about 60-80 minutes.
  24. Can't combine NYCT and MTA Bus completely, MTA Bus still has the blank check, thus will still be treated a bit differently.

Weekend Lex Service has been a disaster.

Early Sunday morning and late night service has improved though with the running all night. Normally on weekends the would be running 20 minute headways or not running in Manhattan at all instead of the running 12 minute headways. The would still be crowded under the normal setup on 20 minute service. G.O.s during Yankees or NYCFC games doesn't help either.
