  1. Sorry to hear that about your cousin. Those two derailments wasn't the train's fault, it was defects with the tracks that caused them to derail.
  2. Cause they was unreliable and expensive to run. Going by MDBF data the R32s were much worse than the R46s are now. MTA probably was like good riddance to that fleet. Not replying to you specifically but replying to the general thread. The R46s had two high profile breakdowns WHILE THE R32 WERE STILL IN SERVICE! (The one on the died between West 4th and Broadway - Lafayette and the one died on the and had to be towed). The R46 MDBF dropped 20,000 miles while the R32 were still in service from 2017 until the pandemic started in 2020. The R46s would be in the exact same shape they are in now if the R32s were still running.
  3. The new 2022 XD40s, the front door can be closed from the outside using an key. The slot is placed near the bus I.D number in the front. When did they start spec'd ing MTA buses with this feature? On the older buses the B/O usually has to push the doors to open/close them when boarding or leaving an OOS bus.
  4. Yes! Finally light rail in NYC! I'm so happy about this.
  5. NJT XE40 made its debut today (or very recently) a fanner I'm subscribed to has an video of it. The interior has next stop screens similar to the ones on MTA buses. The new signs also show the weather forecast, I wish the XD60s had these screens, hopefully this spec change is permeant with the new signs.
  6. I used to collect bus timetables from Newark Penn as a kid, this was back in the flexible metro days so that was an long time ago lol, haven't seen any there in modern times. EDIT: as per the poster above, Newark Penn still does have bus timetables. I wish NJT had a bus map for downtown philly, they don't have to include the Septa routes just the NJT routes. NJT philly bus operation is confusing to me, like is the 551 a loop in downtown Philly or it terminates and layover somewhere in Philly?
  7. A car crashed into ENY Depot today, saw it on Reddit...
  8. That M7 been in an accident and they cannibalized the car of some of its parts, that why it looks different.
  9. Currently there is an emergency one day G.O on the where it's running a shuttle bus between Broadway Junction and Myrtle Ave, 24 minute headway shuttle between Canarsie and Broadway Junction. Got caught off guard about this. Hate this one train 24 minute headway shuttle G.O.
  10. The R211s will start arriving this year once the pilot train passes its 30 day revenue service test.
  11. J & Z line ridership is too high to eliminate the . When the TA suggested to eliminate it in 2010, they realized they would have to replace all of the train runs with runs to meet the demand, the line is that busy during the rush. No way the would be able to handle Brighton by itself on weekdays, it can barely handle the Brighton on weekends! I don't think closing two stops for one day saves much money, Fulton is probably busy on Sundays
  12. Chambers and Broad were closed on weekends years before this site even existed, so posters on here didn't even have an platform to complain about closing those stops on weekends cause social media and this forum didn't exist yet! I remember riding trains terminating at Chambers on weekends in 2004. There's no fat to trim in regards to service cuts on the subway, no way the would be cut short two stops in the city. Most of the system is pretty well used during the day and early evenings.
  13. I read its an ventilation problem (issue with one of the fans) holding up the opening of GCM. There was an news article about it.
  14. I ride J & Z trains out of Broad in the PM Rush every now and then, Broad and Fulton get decent ridership, no way they should be cut. Fulton is even well used on Saturdays.
  15. The TA canceled the to 179th Street trips for the PM Rush today.
  16. This is not an article from The Onion, lol......
  17. Surprised since the LIRR M3 came back this year, there's only been one set running all this time until today There's some railfans on YouTube I'm subbed too that's has multiple videos of the M3s regularly uploaded, giving the impression there was at least multiple sets running at once. Its mindblowing they have that much footage on board of one commuter rail train that seems to run at random, on multiple lines on an daily basis.
  18. Zero. None have been in an major accident and there's nothing to replace them with.
  19. This is common on the weekend on the from what I noticed, line headways seems normal on weekdays from my experiences.
  20. Other than an Saturday only line G.O, this weekend there was no G.Os on any line in the system this weekend. There's no weekend G.Os next weekend except for a minor line G.O skipping 155th S/B. Back in the day up until the late 2000s, they rarely had weekend G.Os between Thanksgiving and New Years.
  21. Wassaic line is a shuttle train between Southeast and Wassic. Maybe they want to keep things uniform with the three shuttles that branch off of the NH line.
  22. Surprised they have enough funding to create an entirely new route. Always thought the Nassau County bus system got crumbs from Nassau County in terms of funding that they barely have enough funding to run the routes they already have.
  23. It would be very difficult to put an elevator on the Brooklyn bound platform at Essex as the platform is very narrow. Marcy already has elevators on both platforms IIRC. Doesn't the B39 only use one bus? It's not exactly breaking the bank to run I'd imagine.
  24. It will be popular with Yankee fans who live in Long Island. During the season I regularly see Yankees fans in midtown around Penn transferring to the train or sometimes the to the .
  25. An MTA Property Protection Agent shot someone at Union Street on the train tonight. First time I heard of those PPA actually shooting someone. For those who don't know, PPA are the armed guards who guard the employees who work on the MVM. This shooting supposedly happened due to an argument, not an robbery.
