Not when you have a disabled train over a switch going from local to express track....

Isn't there a switch going from the local track to middle track Manthattan bound at Ave X? Unless the track maps on nycsubway.org is wrong.

If they went express at Ave X at least it would be more convenient for (F) riders vs sending most N/B (F) trains via the (D) line.

    Trains Rerouted

    (F) trains are severely disrupted in both directions while we address a mechanical problem on a train near Ditmas Av.

There is no northbound (F) service from Kings Hwy to Church Av.

Most (F) trains are running on the (D) line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to Broadway-Lafayette St.

The last stop on some southbound (F) trains will be 2 Av, where they will turn for northbound service.

Some northbound (C) trains are running on the (F) line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq.

Listen to announcements to hear how your train will operate.

They can't run N/B (F) trains on the middle track on the Culver EL?

  3. Rode the rush hour BM2 from midtown to Canarsie the other day during rush hour, took around two hours, with it taking an hour to just leave Manhattan! The FDR was crawling up until the Brooklyn Bridge.

Also Cortelyou Rd is a killer when it comes traffic badly timed lights, etc.

Also when did they change the routing of the BM2 to follow the BM3/4 to go via Church Ave then CI Ave? The BM1 & 2 used to take a different routing to CI Ave once it got off the Prospect Expressway.

Last point, the run before the one I rode was canceled due to the B/O shortage. I said to myself "damn, this run is gonna be crush loaded" and guess what? It wasn't, don't get me wrong the bus had decent amount of ppl on it but there was plenty of seats left once we got on the FDR. I was expecting every seat to be taken like on the SIM10 I rode a couple days prior.

Do riders who normally ride missing runs say f*** it and take the subway home, or do they wait for the next bus?

  4. Is the LIRR short on trains? A bunch of trains are canceled due to slippery rail conditions.

One of the Jamaica- Atlantic Terminal shuttles is canceled and there isn't even any leaves on that route LOL

I'm guessing a lot of LIRR MUs are OOS due to flat wheels?

I know that the MTA main focus is making all the IND lines fully CBTC. But what about Jamaica Line ? I know that the line is a BMT line but aren't (J) (Z) (M) 100% NTT ? So shouldn't that line be worthy of discussion ?

From what I understand, some parts of the IND still has the original signals from the IND was built where's the J line signals was redone in the 90s. Concourse is IND and is not getting CBTC, it's signal system was redone in the 90s also.

R1/9 running between 145 St and 2 Av express.

December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, basically every Saturday of that month.

The Holiday Nostalgia Train departs 2nd Avenue on the uptown F line in Lower Manhattan at:

    10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm

The Holiday Nostalgia Train departs 145th Street on the downtown D line at:

    11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm

I wonder from here on out, will they rotate between the Arnines, R32s and TOMC on a yearly basis. Like for example next year will be the R32s on this route then the year after TOMC on the (1) , etc.

I wonder what ever happened to the vintage buses that used to make stops along 42 St with the M42 during the holiday seasons. This was in my mind as just now, the city is starting to put decorations in prep for December and the tree by Rockefeller Center.

From what I gather from what I've read over the years...

1)The vintage buses were driven by senior b/o's who drove the fishbowl and Flex New looks when they was everyday buses, retired. Most if not all of the current day B/Os at Quill aren't trained on anything older than a RTS or Orion hybrids.

2)Someone credible said the museum buses get no maintenance, I'm assuming most of them don't even start up which is why we see the same 5 or 6 buses at every event. In the video below (NOT my video) it looks like some of those buses haven't moved in years by how dusty they look, look at 5117 windshield..

3)The TM has a heavy favorism towards the subway museum fleet and the buses are a afterthought.

4)This is just speculation on my part, but Im assuming nobody offered to train the current day Quill B/Os on the museum buses, and if they did, would the B/Os be interested? Keep in mind that the buses older than the RTS do NOT have power steering. It's a lot of work to drive one, also you gotta deal with transit fans which let's be honest, do not have the best reputation lol.

I think these are the reasons we don't see holiday vintage bus run anymore. I could be wrong.

  8. Metro North added service to the Hudson Line this weekend due to "leaf peeping" (Yes, they used the words leaf peeping).

I read elseware that those diesel train Hudson line runs are crushloaded with crowds on weekends due to ppl wanting to view the fall foliage.

  9. The AC bus terminal... you can't sit in the waiting area unless you have a ticket (there's a security guard guarding the area) Issue is, only a small section of seats is open for ppl to sit. Half of the waiting area is roped off and closed. I said screw it and just waited outside for the bus.

Today I did an Amtrak to Philly, AC rail line to Atlantic City, 319 back to NYC trip. Gotta make my way back down here to fan the 551.

Yes apparently. Considering the MTA had sent a rescue train to evacuate passengers on that train, I don't think it was a usual "mechanical breakdown". The link to the news page I posted above stated there was some smoky conditions on that train, but I'm not sure if it's confirmed.

EDIT: (J) service is now suspended between Crescent St and Jamaica Ctr. The third rail was probably shut down.

    I see.

    EDIT: the train struck debris.

A Broad St-bound (J) train became disabled on the Archer Avenue ramp. Service was suspended between Jamaica Ctr and 111 St. A rescue train is apparently being sent to evacuate the passengers or so I heard.

Emergency vehicles and helicopters are rushing to the area right now.

    Part Suspended

There is no (J) train service between 111 St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer.

    What's Happening?

We're investigating a mechanical problem on a train near Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.

The last stop on Jamaica-bound (J) trains is Broadway Junction, Crescent St, or 111 St.

Listen to announcements to hear how your train will operate.

    Expect  delays in both directions.

    Alternatives:

LIRR is cross-honoring MetroCard holders and OMNY users between Penn Station, Grand Central Madison, Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica.

For alternative service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, consider nearby (A)(C)(L) trains.

For service along Jamaica Ave to Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, take a Q24 or Q56 bus.

For service to the AirTrain to JFK Airport, take an (A) or (E) train.

Transfer to an (A) train at Fulton St or Broadway Junction.

Transfer at Delancey St-Essex St to an (F) train for connections to (E) service in Queens.

Emergency vehicles for a train with mechanical problems?

Isn't there an R40M pair sitting there too?

It's kind of sad to see lesser known fleets like the early redbirds and 40Ms just sit in yards rotting... they already saved nearly two trains of R33s/R36s so I doubt they'll do anything to restore those... same goes for the 40M when they already have a preserved 42 pair...

Hell, even a fleet like the 44s only got a single car preserved, and the blind end and lack of interoperability means it probably won't run on a trip. I doubt they'll preserve any SIR R44 cars, and for R46s I see them keeping a married pair or two A cars at most... at least with the 62/As and 68/As they could convert them back to single cars and link two together...

I didn't see the R40M pair there, not sure where in the system its located at.

In regards to the R46 I doubt they will save an A-A pair because it can't run on the mainline by themselves due to 3rd rail gaps. I would imagine a four set car gets saved, or nothing lol.

Can't run two single R68s on the mainline for the same reason.

  13. They are probably still there, rusting away. I just passed by there and there's still three rusty pairs of redbirds there like there have been for years now.

IIRC, one of each of the R26/28/29 combo is at Concourse.

They should just scrap those cars, they appear to be in horrid shape, missing rollsigns, etc. They have graffiti tags on one of the cars, who knows how long that tag have been on that car.

Usually when parts of the (L) is suspended north of Broadway Junction, the (L) would terminate on the (J) platforms (considering the switches are north of the (L) platform at that station). I can't say why this isn't the case in this instance - maybe it has to do with the fact it was during the midday hours on a weekday?

They had the (L) shuttle terminate on the Manhattan bound (J) platform during midday weekdays before (when it was one shuttle train running every 24 minutes while the Manhattan bound (J) used the middle track ). This time they ran the (L) every 10 minutes between Canarsie and Atlantic Ave, using the switch between Atlantic and Stutter Ave to turn for Canarsie bound service.
