    Probably for Swing buses, not for service. Most of ENY swing NGs went to scrap except for one so these units from CS are likely replacements for the scrapped units.

  2. A van going around 80 MPH crashed into an BX9 bus. What's crazy is the bus was barely damaged while the van was totaled and brust into flames.

     

     

    Surveillance video show the driver of the bus opened the doors right away with ppl running out of the bus. It's crazy how much stronger bus frames are compared to smaller vehicles.

     

     

    It's suspected the driver of the van had an medical emergency, hope he's ok.

    I never been on an crowded Far Rock or Hempstead train outside of rush hour, once an hour off peak is sufficient IMO.

     

     

    For whatever reason, Jones Beach is a more popular beach destination than Long Beach. To me Long Beach is nicer than Jones Beach, it's right in a beach town where's Jones Beach is in the middle of nowhere. Hour headways on Long Beach is fine.

     

     

    A few July 4th's ago (pre pandemic) I rode one of those Long Beach super expresses in the evening and the train wasn't busy at all.

    They skipping the pilot bus process for the MTA Bus order? Usually at the start of an new order only the pilot bus is delivered, runs in service for a few weeks then it's sent back to the vendor. Then eventually the rest of the buses start coming in.

     

     

    Not complaining, just an observation, if the new stuff comes in quicker no problem with me.

    I did this as an young child, I stopped once by the time I made it into my teenage years. Even as a kid I ONLY did it in the privacy of my home. On the R42 final run, I saw an teenage railfan mimicking the GE propulsion sound, WTF :lol: A little too old to be mimicking propulsion sounds in public kid..

    Speaking of R46s, the R46s A/C has been excellent this summer, usually R46 A/C is hit or miss with mostly misses. Surprised their A/C improved considering that they will be retired soon and the first of their replacements is already on the property, thought they would do the bare minimum just to keep them running. 

  7. This past week I finally rode the Danbury branch, totally different vibe than the mainline Metro North routes. Only has one C/R that does everything vs the multiple C/Rs on mainline MN trains. 

     

    Even during the week during midday hours only one trainset works the line, with the same crew. Nice views, a couple of lakes along the line.

  8. The R142/142A, R143 & R160 has the same rider experience they did in back in the 2000s, I rode R142s damn near every day in 2006 and they still ride the same today as they did back then.

     

     

    The only real differences on the 2000s era NTT from back then is cosmetic, their might have been mechanical upgrades done during SMS but that stuff isn't noticeable to the passenger.

     

     

    The R179s rider experience is still the same as they were back when they was brand new.

     

     

    It's silly to get annoyed at the fact that ppl are comparing the R211s to other car classes because the R211s are new. Odds are the R211s will have the same riders experience 20 years from now. 

  9. There's an R46 (A) train stuck on the S/B express track just south of the 14th street station. Train went BIE and they can't figure out why according to the website.

     

     

    They had two S/B (A) trains parked in 14th Street at the same time, took a picture that I will post when I get home, pretty cool to see.

  10. One way these R211s are an downgrade from the R179s is the HVAC is LOUD just like the older new techs, the HVAC on the R179s is nearly silent.

     

     

    I was walking up the steps from the mezzanine to the street and was still able to hear the R211s HVAC :lol:

    This was around 3PM, went back in service as the (F) then back as the (C) at Jay St. 

    It crazy that there's always an railfan around to catch these one off rare occurrence. I remember when I was on an (B) that went via Culver there was railfans filming the train at the stop in that photo.

    I sent a tweet about it to the LIRR twitter page. I usually don't bother when it comes to official complaints in regards to transit, I just assume it will fall on death ears.

    Just a heads up, the LIRR C/Rs did not get the text on their work phone about the cross honoring today, they won't accept what the website says. I used to have the service change open on my phone too in years past but the cr I had didn't accept it this time, basically said he let me slide this time but next time I have to pay.

     

     

  14. I'm surprised at the (A) line crews not wanting to qualify on the 211s considering the R179s already run on that line. But if the cameras are the reason, then shrugs.

     

     

    I remember reading on one of these railfan forums back then that crews didn't want to qualify on the R160s when new cause of the black boxes on those cars. Eventually those trains got put into service, the old stuff retired and life went on..

    Do school trippers count? If so quite a few routes have multiple depots buses running on them.

     

    if not, JFK and FR with the Q11 is the only possible one I could think of. I think there's an express bus route in the BX that's split between CP and ECH.

     

    The Q32 used to be split between CS and Quill, but now only CS operates the route.

     

     

    FR used to run the B100 when SC was closed on Sundays in the early days of MTA Bus.

    For the (3) and (6) No, but the (1) line mostly had the same R62As it does now, with a few sets and transferred to and from 240th yard over the years.
