  1. are you refering to the abandoned tracks about a block away from 180th st station or the stub end of the el heading northe toward the Bx Zoo?
  2. Wednesday morning i spotted an O5 sitting in FR. It caught me by surprise and since i was passing by on the A, i couldnt get the number, can anyone confirm this? It had JFK stickers
  3. WOW! Really? The MTA's original plan was to have 179s on SIR. 46s are only 2 years younger that the 44s. Do they really expect the 46s to last that long? SI hasnt seen new cars since the 44s in 1973! They also have to modify what, approximately 90 cars to FRA standards and cab signaling? I dont see them lasting that long. Theyre already 36 years old!
  4. what about SIR? Weren't they suppose to get cars to replace the R44s on that line from this order?
  5. IRT Bronx Express, thank you thank you thank you!!!! And yes, that GO is via the F line
  6. Sweet job!!!!! I wouldnt mind having that R160 sign but i would like it to display the current pattern: Far Rockaway 8 Av Exp Fulton St Exp via JFK Airport via Delancey St I like the G.O. Gives me a one seat ride home from my sister's crib in LES. LOL
  7. happy belated birthday! Nice avatar BTW! Lt. Garber. Love the original! Walter Matthau was the MAN!

  8. That's what I said. Read my post again. They will go into penn using Amtrak's catenary. And the 3rd rail shoes are to be retracted before merging with LIRR at sunnyside.
  9. yes it does. During electrification, Penn and New haven opted for cantenary. LIRR went 3rd rail like the subway(which is how NYCTA was able to speed test R44s on LIRR tracks). New York Central went 3rd rail but opted for an under running rail. Engineers have yet to design an effective shoe that can adjust for height. the best option(for now) would be a retractable shoe since M8s if they start Penn Sta service would use Amtraks cantenary. Think about it, why else when cars are ordered for LIRR (M1, M3, M7), instead of adding more cars to the same order, MNR gets their own order (M1A, M3A, M7A [besides signal system differences of course]).
  10. Hey! I do indeed remember the 27/30's on the C. My freshman year of high school I use to take the C to not only kill time on the way home(my school was in east midtown) but the fact that the B division had redbirds of their own. Although not as good as the IRT's. Those C's always emptied out by rockaway blvd

  11. How is that possible with 2 different types of 3rd rails. Isnt that the M8's 3rd rail shoes are retractable for If/when they share tracks from Sunnyside into Penn Sta? The option i was told at the Croton open house in 08 was to run under Amtrak's Cantenary all the way south of New Rochelle.
  12. the Danbury and Waterbury branches are not electrified. Only the main line and New Caanan branch have catenary
  13. it could be for both. ESA will open up slots at Penn that MNR stated they might want for service from The NH and the Hudson lines
  14. for proposed service over amtrak rails thru the bronx and queens to Penn Sta? LMAO!!!! So true! But in Serena's case, im glad theres something called "doggiestyle"!! LOL
  15. Im sure they'll hold up well. even though Acela Express is limited to 90mph on metro-north's tracks, they sem to be running with it well. Im curious how the M8's will work with Amtraks catenary south of New Rochelle for proposed Penn Sta service.
  16. the manufacturer may test their products but the MTA does the same. And more. remember, unlike older fleets, these new ones now have to be programmed and tested to make sure their automatic stop announcement are working properly. like when we saw 160s first arriving and they were running "simulated" runs by opening doors opposite of the platforms. Once everything seems ok, brakes, propulsion, etc, then they must run in revenue for a specific amount of time WITHOUT a mechanical problem. i believe its 30 days for the subway. im assuming its longer for the railroads
  17. they do. these M8s are designed to run via 3rd rail south of Pelham and vis cantenary north of there. theyre also designed to run via Amtrak's cantenary south of New Rochelle to Penn Sta.
  18. have you tried creating the text by opening the file with photoshop and using that?
  19. technicologically, i see these cars doing well. Kawasaki has a great track record. its the weight issue im worried about. Parts could wear down quicker. I was hoping for triplets to help with this issue
  20. The M8's exterior werent designed by Kawasaki. it was Cesar Vergara. Hes also responsable for the exteriors of the P42s, PL42s, Alp46s. Comet Vs, and also was part of the team who designed Sweden's X2000. He aslo had a stint with NJT and updated NJTs livery with the fading 3 color stripe on their new equipment. Im a fan of his work but personally, that M8 front gotta go!!
  21. Thanks bro! Yours is one month away!!!

  22. Thanks alot!!!!! Happy Belated to you!

  23. too lazy to read or even listen to announcements. or even just asking someone. and the MTA offers so many ways of being told of things. Emails, website info, even tweets on twitter. people just pop in their headphones and expect door to door service almost. LOL
