You should’ve at least applied for NYCT conductor and station agent. Therefore you would have somewhere to go later on. You shouldn’t have rested your whole hands just on MNRR or LIRR.
Bingo never put all of ones eggs in one basket especially with anything transit related...

do you think unmanned trains will soon be realistic?
If it does not in my time in this area....
Which is less than three years god willing..
My take? ATO with two crew members "Train Workers one and two" CBTC already Enables the CR and there's Software for the Doors to open by themselves already....
Those words are already on our pay stubs train worker one and two..
One is a TO and two is a CR the difference is A T/O can do a C/Rs Job (OPTO).

There does seem to be a glitch, at least for the 8 car units on the Mikey, every time my parter for the day accepts ATO the computer keeps reporting “BIE Alerter” on my screen while under ATO control, despite never dumping the train and my partners all using the alerter correctly.
Yes a few ten car units was having that glitch too on the as well..

Automatic Train Operation is now in effect (ATO) in the Queens Korridor all four Lines....
A TSS must "refresh" the TO at Continental then off ya go .
Just make sure ya keep pushing that Button every 20 seconds lol...
From speaking to a few coworkers that difference is felt...
Especially Going SB into Grand on D1 track oh boy ....

This has been the most frustrating hiring process in my life. I feel like giving up. I go for medical today. Everything was good medical was cleared and qualified. I go upstairs to take my photo, all good. Now I go back down to hand in my application for it to get processed so I can move on to get fingerprints and they tell me my application has to be reviewed and there are no managers on site today and since it’s past 4pm they’ll have to contact me on when to come back. No specific date or time frame just they will reach out to you on when to return. So I’m supposed to just wait around and put my life on pause and wait around until the moment they call me and tell me when to return. It’s really ridiculous. I went for pre employment 3 times, this is the first time I actually made it to medical and now it’s something else.
Man listen makes you wonder at times go down there the next business day...

Back in those ancient days we were taught that in the subway express meant that you made fewer stops than the locals.
That's before These GOS to repair a system that is falling apart...

I think we ether need to rename this thread or spin off a new one for sharing our road based pearls of wisdom beyond Schoolcar.
like, for example, just because you are running on the express track during a GO… don’t expect to actually go faster. You will probably be crawling along at 10MPH past more yellow lights than you can count. “Express” just means “I’m not stopping”.
CBTC work Zones are the Absolute Truth!
Mess around with those good way to lose those Handles.

To build on what Goliver said… this isn’t a job…
this is a career. This is a responsibility you NEED TO TAKE SERIOUSLY.
Over the course of my probation… I was NEVER late. Not once. I only called out sick once, and that was for Covid, which is, or at least was at the time, off in its own little corner of the rules.
Unless something had gone wrong, I was always 15 minutes early for my reporting time. Some times even earlier.
Partly because I knew where I was going… a few of my classmates eventually got lost. One went to Ditmas instead of Ditmars. Another went to the wrong Bay Parkway. Told they had a Delta job… went to Bay Parkway Sea Beach.
Going by what i see online and in person with some of these folks, they dont..
Got Attitudes act like they doing transit a favor mad because they on WAA and are asked to do a relay...
New flash we are replaceable pass numbers they'll clip one and use that pass number for the next one they hire.

Oh yes be very careful about booking off that's the one thing as was said they look at a lot while on probation...
Let me tell yall SICK CONTROL is no Joke try to stay off that chit....
There's folks down here not even five years in title on Sick Control..
These folks dont care about our personal lives so adjust accordingly, if one wants to stay for the long run then there's things one has to deal with...
Things are changing in this state they will get this workforce up to their numbers...
One way or another...

When that resident said "for the short term they might lower the speed" well they could...
They have speed restrictions on the entering and leaving west 8th street..
Now that train... Another matter...

But will the overnight local service hours be changed, to start AFTER the last train runs? Especially Jamaica-bound, local service starts at 8:30PM, even though the runs thru to 71 Av until about 9:30PM (leaving Queens Plaza)
Yes i believe so first local in queens out of STL will be the 2045..
should be out of the way by the time it gets to queens but not the prob one of the last ones.

I can't see them letting the go local late nights. People already have ridiculous bus rides just to get to Jamaica to make everything local would set everyone off. CBTC work is one thing but I don't see the MTA being let off the hook for that one.
Already seen the Supplement for the week of the first..
and service local during the Overnights...
CBTC work isn't close to being done in Queens..

Folks listen up they have cameras installed in these tech trains in the cars so be mindful of what you do when you walk through them.
As well as the R68s....

The could run to 21st queens bridge on nights and weekends meaning the is 24/7 in Manhattan. But the only drawback is less TPH on the / . The Drawback of the going via 53rd is the merge at Queens Plaza. Both have pros and Cons.
Not happening..
Yet....
When they get CBTC up and running in Queens then we could see things like that.

Have the run via 63rd Street weekends? But that would create another merge.
Not happening unless there a GO.

Yes they will be done with 63rd street come April 1st (im sure with a few GOs for punch work a shutdown weekend)..
Service patterns will go back to how it was before 63rd, 53rd...
For those who wish (and i mean wish) for the flip flop not happening because the will be cut back as it is already and just adding more switch movement in the 36th street area just isn't worth the CBTC glitch factor.
It Glitches out often in that area.
Weekend late night late evening service however might be different (ill really find out once i see that supplement)..
service local a bit more so no more Full time express service in Queens.

Another important lesson for everyone: for the conductors, there are some train operators who are always in a hurry to get through their trip. If you delay even slightly, they’ll push the door warning button. They’ll keep giving you two, not caring why you might be held up. If you have a legitimate issue., if you feel safety is at risk, remember, safety FIRST.
I had one such operator recently. Someone was throwing things out of the train onto the platform. Ranging from empty food take out… TO A USED HYPODERMIC NEEDLE… yes, Oscar the grouch here was causing a bio-hazard.
I basically put it like this to them at the terminal…
You do YOUR job… and I’ll do mine. And my job is SAFETY.
for the new TOs, recognize that each individual station stop is a unique event. No two are the same. If it is taking your partner longer to close down, don’t automatically assume it’s laziness or incompetence and start being a jerk towards them.
like today… I’m a little under the weather. I’m getting over a cold. I’m not going to be 110%. I might be having a sneezing fit back there. You’re where you need to be. You are getting paid. Rushing only results in mistakes.
Well said i always told my partner " we a team" that's how it works..
Some of our coworkers dont know how to work well with others and that's a fact.
