    yeah because of their damn weight and issues, but we know they aren't going anywhere, they aren't bad cars, the R68A's have brake issues, that was the TA's falt, not kawasaki's they modified the brakes and it made them horrible, the R68's on the other hand are good

     

    There is no brake issue, it's just that people don't understand that they have to adjust their operation accordingly. Every train is different.

  2. on weekends you'll find full length Rock Pk Shuttle trains for the beach crowds.

     

    Lance, How is 207th/Pitkin not able to handle NTTs when every single set that arrives on the property a) gets received, connected into consists inspected, etc at 207th and then spends time at Pitkin for testing on the Broad Channel flats? How are the sets at Pitkin (for its short stay there) maintained during break/speed testing?

     

    The trains were put together in the over haul shop, not in the barn. When the cars were at Pitkin, workers from the builders where there. During the 30 day test period, the trains are still property of the builder, NOT the MTA.

  3. I think all cars should have doors sensors so that if there's an object in the door way the doors won't fully close and will open back up again or keep cycling till the obstruction is clear. The bell chime is not necessary unless the person is blind.

     

    That maybe the worst idea ever and it was already tried before. In the 50's, the Lo-V's had such a system and it was a big flop. In fact, the cars of the museum train still have the required components. As an old time Motor Instructor once told me, "it's conductor combat out there, it's you against the masses." such a system would mean that the doors would never close.

  4. Actually, not having the chime could be an ADA violation. I know it's mandated for the new trains for those who don't speak English because "ding-dong" is universal for "get the f- out of the doorway". I'm not sure about the rehabbed ones though.

     

    The R32s are not new trains so ADA regs. don't apply to them.

  5. damn, I was looking forward to the repainted interiors, i don't know why they want to be so cheap, 3806/7 and 3840/1 needs interior work badly, but I'm glad they are getting the work they need.

     

    I'm sure that cars that need interior work will get the work done, but they will save money by only doing the work on cars that need it done.

  6. I simply think that it is absurd to close a whole segment of a line if you have the luck to have 4 tracks !!!! Red line ( 15 minutes overnight ) and Blue line ( 30 minutes by 1.30 AM to 3.00 AM ) in Chicago have ALWAYS at least 1 track in service !!! Does know the MTA that NY is the city that never sleeps ?

     

    I'll give you the benifit of doubt and say that you have no idea what goes into subway maintinance because if you did, you would know that this program is the best thing to happen in years.

  7. Service-wise, it didn't work out too well.

     

    Maintenance wise, it worked out like it was supposed too. Johnson and Gall were very happy with the way it went. As for service, I was out there last night from 1 to 4 and there were no problems on the IRT. Tonight was a bit different with a police action in Brooklyn that suspended (3) for a while.

  8. I'd like to know where on the 68's are they gonna put anymore stuff for announcements and computers ect. There barely enough room in the cabs for 1 human to fit in.

     

    I heard that it will be similar to what the CTA in Chicago uses on their cars. Its a small keypad with a screen, like those on a bus sign. On there cars, you enter your run number and it knows what line your on. After that you have to play the announcement manually like you already do with the door closing warning.
