  1. I was playing pool yesterday and this song came on the radio. It's been so long since I last heard it...
  2. thanks a lot! i know i'm kinda late getting back at you w/ this lol but w/e

  3. I would have train stops at 2nd Ave. and Avenue B instead of at 1st and 3rd Aves. 3rd Avenue is a given as it's only a block away from Union Sq., and walking to Alphabet City is a bitch depending on how far in you have to go (good luck if you're going to Ave. D...). Also, when (if) the SAS reaches down there in Phase 3 anyway it would make the 14th St. transfer to the that much easier. Similarly, I would add 2nd Ave. stations to the , , and lines. No one's going to want to walk 2 avenues down to the Lexington Ave. stations when the SAS opens, and 2nd Ave. is populated enough to warrant stations too. I doubt those are possible under existing conditions though. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread I would have stations at 5th Ave. - 63rd St. , Union Ave. (closing Hewes and Lorimer) and 103rd St. . Is a station at Allerton Ave. necessary? It's really close to Gun Hill Rd. as it is. I also don't think it's necessary to add any more 28th St. stations since you're never more than 5 blocks away from a station between 23rd and 34th streets. You don't want too many stops as that just makes commuting slower.
  4. This is very true. Whenever my friends and I go to White Castle we get so hyped up for it (and getting the itis afterward). You can only eat White Castle if you go all the way and pig out. There's one at Rego Center and another in Bay Terrace shopping center. IDK about any others. That Blimpie's is gone, unfortunately. I wanted to eat there a few months ago but it's replaced by some panini place IINM... I'm surprised it took this long for Chipotle to pop up in this thread. I've only been there once but my friends go there all the time and it's great. I love their burritos. Also the fact that they factor in tax when you pay is a plus too. Prices are kinda high but still reasonable. I like McDonalds for the convenience (there's almost always one around) but I usually only order a bunch of dollar menu burgers (McDouble/McChicken) for lunch instead of getting the bigger stuff. I also like their shakes and McFrappes. Burger King tastes better IMO because they flame broil their burgers. They also have great chicken fries. Let's not get started on those Hershey pies! I'd say Wendy's is the best out of the 3 because of their burgers and the variety they have. Aside from Manhattan Wendys' restaurants, the ones in outer boroughs are pretty cheap. I love Popeyes as well. I've only ever gotten a popcorn chicken from KFC but I want to try their Double Down. Taco Bell is another place where you get great value - the $5 buck box can't be beat.
  5. OK so I've been looking for a job this summer since my original summer job at SYEP fell through. So I've been applying for cashier/sales jobs to every store imaginable, and on the online application to one store they gave me this question: 28. You receive a phone call from a frequent customer who wants to purchase a specific item as a holiday present for her daughter. You learn her daughter is in the hospital and the mother cannot pick up the item from your store. The daughter has been wanting this item for months. It is the evening before the holiday, what will you do? WTF?!? Why is this a question?? When the hell does this ever happen? Are you kidding me?!
  6. Haven't posted in a while... (Joe Testagrose photos)
  7. The lower level probably did. IDK if the 53rd St. stations were renovated in the 80s or the 90s so I can't answer that question.
  8. Some 1980s nostalgia (wow, I didn't think this thread would get so popular...):
  9. I got a job this week. I don't know the details yet but it's just an office job for this person I worked for during the summer. Easy enough. It's about time I earn some money for myself...
  10. 60' IRT cars would mean cars that make wider turns, so it would essentially be the equivalent of using B Division cars on the . Also, I agree about getting rid of those extra cabs, which are there even in the 5-car sets. It's not like they'll ever be used again (on the R68/As too) and they're just taking up space that can be used to hold more people. That's not true. I ride the a lot year-round and I've never had any problems with the climate control. The announcements are audible enough, nor better or worse than any other line that doesn't have NTT's. R142As have a reasonable temperature year-round, but they are real iceboxes in the summer. It's not an unrealistic idea. R62A 2009, currently on the , was retrofitted with exterior speakers (like the R62s on the ) around a year or so ago. There were provisions to retrofit the entire fleet with them, which can still happen. Additionally, there were plans to put speakers with extendable cords in the C/R cab so the C/R wouldn't have to go right next to the speaker to give an announcement. I could see those two plans going through if and when the R62As go to the Lexington Ave. lines. 1,080 R142s (6311-7180) 600 R142As (7211-7810) 460 R142As are currently at Westchester Yard for use on the , while the other 140 are at Jerome Line (along with 270 R142s) for use on the . Meanwhile, Corona Yard has about 410 R62As, so the simplest thing to do would be to take R142As from the and and give them the R62As. Since the uses 50 less cars than the , that means that there would still be at most 5 trains of R142As on the even if all the R62As went to the . I could see them take all the R142As from Jerome and 270 from Westchester, leaving the a little less than half R142As and the about 2/3 R142s.
  11. Of course, among this community you will see people who prefer their cameras more. Only the most recent innovations in phone technology have cameras that can pass for everyday photography (nothing very serious). Railfans have a set criteria for the photos they take, while the vast majority of people take pictures whenever they see something funny, are with friends, etc. A phone is just fine for that purpose, especially since the latest phones mostly have 5-10MP+ cameras anyway (and better sensors and whatnot). I don't see the point-and-shoot camera dying off though.

  13. Last week I saw 9655 (FLA I think) as a training bus on the M96 route. Today I saw 4932 (JAM), also at 96th and Lex, with a Training Bus sign too. What gives?
  14. I saw 5017 on the M1 on Thursday morning. It was around 98th St. and Madison Ave. at around 8:45 AM.
  15. I'm surprised we don't have a thread for this yet. Here you can post pics that get that good ol nostalgia feeling coming. You can also talk about those days when much older cars ran along every line (for those of you who are old enough to do so). Let me start: (Photo part of the George Conrad Collection)
  16. Pretty much doing anything as a lefty that was designed with righties in mind is f**kING annoying...
  17. Things that annoy me: When you see someone and automatically just want to punch them in the face. "You're a lefty?" No, I just use my left hand to do everything because I hate life you dumb bitch People who have been living in America for years and still don't speak English Racists, sexists, and overall, people who discriminate religion. I will respect anyone's religious views and all but I myself am an atheist and think it's completely baseless. If you tell me you're a Christian/***/etc. though then it's not like I'm going to rip on you for your religion. Politics in this country. How Congress stalls bills or denies bills for their own personal gain and then blame the President for not being able to pass legislation that will help this country and the working/middle class people that run it. Close-mindedness in politics today People who try and take stances on things that don't affect them in any way. If you live in Minnesota I don't want to hear your f**king opinion on the mosque near ground zero people who go out of their way to be unlikeable (keepin it G rated) how our culture is so centered around belitting others. especially on tv How people think their opinion entitles them to everything the fact that if I leave 5 minutes earlier than usual, my commute will still find a way to f**k up and make me late for first period. the . i may like the subway system and all but when I'm using it just to get around it's never long before I find something to rage about. whether it be why this train is 3 minutes late, or why the t/o is stopping due to train traffic when I waited 20 minutes for this train, etc. how my school at the top of a hill, so no matter what direction I walk to school it will be on a hill. sweet people who are not aware of how much of a loser they are people that try to start beef with others who haven't even done anything to cause any sort of animosity between them The New York Post and the Daily News when you're in the hallway and you say hi to someone, but either they don't hear you or pretend not to see you and you feel like an idiot people who don't know how to type "legibly" on the internet people who would rather kill themselves than accept any form of change That's all I can think of for now... lol yes because that is their job... ...Is there a particular reason you hate teabaggers? Bad experiences earlier on? LOL!
  18. Like other people said, go for it if you want. For $50 more though, you can get an SLR.
