That's because no one wants to lose their jobs, Transit has been very strict when it comes to information going out.

Simple updates aren't classified sensetive information. The information is still available, just not being posted here obviously. They have always been strict about certain information being available.  The point in that post was to show the fact that these updates COULD still be posted here. Theres plenty of people in the know and most of them choose not to post simple out of respect for me. And any Moderator could have updated that post at anytime. I just refuse to do it anymore, and no one else wants to.

Are the 14 XE60's lease buses are does NYCTA own them outright? I'm intrigued as to why they ordered 14 of them to keep if the electric bus lease program hasn't finished yet.

15 buses, and yes they are all owned by MTA. The only leases are group A and B 40 footers.

Thank you and correct! The new approval actually allows for MTA to now change course a bit and install more than 50 new overhead chargers in 4 depots this year. The depots I mentioned in my last post above will start the install in 2022.

That should tell yall a WHOLE lot about the next electric order if you read between the lines. This ALSO includes replacement of the overhead charger at Williamsburg Bridge.....

Let me rephrase and clarify that before im attacked. 50 plus overhead chargers will be installed, with the FIRST 4 depots starting this yeah.

First off Congratulations to you on everything.

2nd: You was always accurate on the information and it's good to see you posting again for a bit.  You are a true professional when it comes to this business.

Lastly, this is some good information being relayed.  So it appears that the TA will be going full speed ahead with the electric program since they recently got approval from the NY Power Authority (Correct)?

Why you gotta do us like that! 😂

Hope you've been having a good one. Sane man for leaving the rest of us nuts here, for real...

Lol! Yeah I'm getting too old for to participate in anything that stresses me or does not put money in my pocket. But all is great thanks! Got married 2 years ago tomorrow, and in July I'm buying first house which just so happens to be about 70 minutes from New Flyer. 😉

I do however from time to time wonder what exactly it was that I EVER did to anyone here other than pass off the most reliable Transit exclusives of ALL TIME. 99% accuracy over 10 whole years.

But so as not to seem like a troll or anything, and not sure if it was mentioned.....

The electric order will be increased to 60 buses up from 45. This now allows for Staten Island to get buses which was originally NOT the plan.

The rollout will begin Charleston, East New York, Grand Avenue, and Kingsbridge.

The next order will be for up to 500 buses and the expansion will include 8 depots to start.

  5. I think I ran out of popcorn and Im only 2 threads in.... My poor babies just don't know nothing... (in my old vise grandfather voice)

I mean even if I did hit yall off with a good old classic ENY exclusive, it definitely won't be appreciated. It is however a guarantee that it will be scrutinized, dissected, and challenged, and most definitely frowned upon. 😔

  6. Smh...... No updates to Fleet & Depots since I left 2 years ago? I also see no one is posting any of the exclusive news, fleet updates or contract procurements.  I see you all didn't know the leases were extended till December 2021 either.

Welp. They say you don't know what you've got till is gone. My information and sources here were questioned one too many times and the last time was the final straw. So I'm just grab some popcorn and see what y'all been talking about.... Or NOT talking about... 😂

  9. I want to thank all of you for the overwhelming support from here and throughout social media. In light of that, and by popular demand I have decided to come out of my ever so brief retirement. I didn’t realize how many people actually still wanted me around.

That being said, I have a MAJOR post coming soon that’s going to knock all your socks off!!!!!

Stay Tuned! East New York is about to light it like I once did! Y’all are NOT gonna be ready for this one!!! 😁🔥

  10. Good afternoon fellas! After a long hard decision, I have decided to retire from NYCTF for multiple reasons. I’ve been extremely busy lately, and have a business to tend to. I will try to comment here and there and help out with information when and if I can. It’s been a great 11 years, and I want to thank everyone who helped and contributed to making this place what it is today.

I did say long ago that I would retire when the RTS did. I guess that time has finally come!

I was talking about the 48 xd40s Flatbush has. In which was said a lot of times some of those were going to be put into local service.

That’s off the table until buses are available. Seeing as FB’s assignment was reduced, those 14-15 buses will have to remain on the 46+ until buses come back from Bus Company.

Except it doesn't make sense buses MCH only has like 55 buses...the rest of the 1200s are already at KB/GH. U would still need another 35 ish buses to make up.

With the Phoenix being converted to a Metrocard bus I wonder if the Mobile Command Center RTS will get the same treatment. I would imagine in 2019 there's no longer a need for a Mobile Command Center bus...?

Of course we need a mobile command center, and always will for emergency reasons.

Some of those xd40s (newer ones) should be unwrapped and put into local service. Hence the word should.

No they shouldn’t. We talked about this 100 times. All SBS service will be with will be new buses. Period.

What in hell are you talking about? West Farms never rushed to retire the OG CNG's, THEY HAD TO because CNG Buses have tanks that expire. As any depot with a shortage West Farms needed buses to fill in that gap, and the best choice was to send the newer XD40's up to West Farms in order to fill in the shortage gap, and why the hell do you want send Next Gens to a mostly NFI Depot, this makes no sense at all, especially when they house in CNG Buses for Christ sake. This is not about making everyone ride the new buses, its about sending buses where there is a need, not a plea. Most people fail to realize that CNG Buses actually have to be decommissioned by its expiration date, you and a couple of others in here with the same ideology you have always make the mistake of stating things without doing research, because its much easier to say things out of the blue. You people need to research, Google up information about CNG Tanks, search up CNG Buses and their service history in other agencies. Assumptions cannot be made, and is such an irresponsible decision making method in a Transit Agency. Buses don't have to be sequential, its not the end of the world, like its the same damn bus with different numbers, there is no need to have an OCD Breakdown and getting horny over the assignments you feel these buses should have. The only department that knows best is the Department of Buses, they are the one's who make responsible decisions, and know what has to be done.

Actually DOB did rush to retire the OG CNG’s. Originally they were going to be repowered and retanked. I totally agree with the rest though.

Just for the record, XD40s at WF is one of the best ideas the MTA ever made. Besides the LFS which for the most part needs to stay at KB, GH to make service, XD40s are another vehicle that can easily make service at WF due to trained maintenance on the XN models.

We touched on this before, but what if WF/SC/CP was 100% CNG? This is going to seriously limit expansion of service. People worry about a depot running on one type of fuel when you should be looking at the entire system running on one type of transmission. MTA is already doing that by making the entire fleet 100% AEB. What does this mean? This means even CNG buses will be no more. So in the end it doesn't even matter if WF does or doesn't use 100% CNG. It all comes down to mechanics, training, demographics and probably more to learn how a depot runs.

Before I go, I would like to point out one of the reasons a handful of XD40s are at WF is due to the articulation of the Bx6. Would you like to bring back overcrowded 40 fters just to make a depot run one type of fuel?

CP/SC/WF do however have 100% standard CNG fleets. Anything else is loaners with the exception of WF these days. Original plans were for WF to be 100% CNG a few years back when they converted CP to all CNG. The future is all-Electric now.

Isn’t ENY almost Artic ready as well

    Not until next year.

    6 hours ago, Lex said:

You do realize that only three Brooklyn Division depots are currently capable of handling artics, right?

Correct. EN will eventually come into the fold as well with the B15 and B82+. The 4700’s have been slated for Brooklyn for quite some time now. This again is in accordance to fleet uniformity. There’s no reason Grand should gets LFSA’s since we are supposed to be sticking to the current plan.

    6 hours ago, JeremiahC99 said:

Flatbush, Grand Avenue, and Gleason can handle artics. However, East NY will also be able to handle artics. Gleason's artic batch is taken care of, so this leave FLatbush and Grand for now. Do you think that Flatbush and Grand Avenue will be the only ones considered for the 47xxs, while EN will have to wait longer beyond when the modifications are complete, since they will need artics for the B82 SBS?

Why do they have to wait? ENY already has an allotment that’s been planned for quite sometime. EN was the first planned depot ever for the 4700’s in Brooklyn after leaving the Bronx.

I wouldn't be surprised if FLA rather than Quill ends up getting those XE60s considering that article about certain BK neighborhoods having "dirty" buses.

Thats not going to happen unless the contract is modified. The infrastructure is at Quill and we aren’t getting any addition in-route chargers until the leased ones are returned. At that point they could theoretically go anywhere as long as MTA orders some for another location.

2 minutes ago, Future ENY OP said:

Low key Quill been getting everything as of late. I agree with you if FLA does get some rolling stock of these buses first than Quill.  I believe the trial period calls for 15 buses. But again we wait and see. I also believe that the XE60 is supposed to be traveling citywide.

Trial period? Not sure what you are talking about. These are production buses that are going to Quill. 1 or 2 of them will travel throughout all 5 boroughs completing cycle and route testing. Every depot with an artic or pending artic ops will get a visit.

  15. 3 hours ago, Lex said:

    Wait, what?

Yes the 4700’s were always bound for Brooklyn due to Fleet uniformity. The timeline however has changed 19 times. GA was under review for arrive and LFSA’s just doesn’t make any sense at all. If the plan is to move them from Brooklyn anyway, why in the hell they would go to Grand was beyond me.

Looks like we are back to what things should be. As I said 3 years ago, I expect every last 4700 series bus to end up in BK.

  16. Just now, Calvin said:

I've noticed that all of the articulated lines at Quill uses SBS buses. The thought is, are they short on units because of the M35?

Quill doesn’t feel that it really matters, and because of their mostly optic ops, it’s much easier to use what’s next on the run line, and as mentioned about they are loosing buses now to WF, and I’m being told some will go to FB when they get new XD60’s

  17. In addition to the above, Quill has no problem running SBS buses on the line, so that isn’t even a factor for them. Even saw one on the M14 yesterday.

Ive been on the M35 many times, most were crush loaded artic runs. There is a lot going on but as @Cait Sith said it’s quite obvious that many people are just looking at maps. There’s lots of traffic out to the island and little do you all know everyone fare beaters are of all classes. From professionals to other employees that work at various places on the island. Not just the homeless. Hell they will even put in change most times while someone who’s working at the homeless shelter they go to get in the back.

On 4/2/2019 at 7:10 PM, MysteriousBtrain said:

It's probably right as you can tell the engine difference between 1016-1020 and the others by looking at the roof exhaust.

No it’s not a mistake, the newer CNG’s now have the new L9N NZ. Essentially is the exact same engine as the standard L9 now, only optimized for gas.

  19. We have several conflicting stories about these mystery XD40’s, and I should have details soon. We don’t have any more options and the only order possibly pending is for MTA Bus. Is this is expedited then it would make sense, however it’s not adding up right now.

Deployment hasn’t changed as of today, yet a mystery 7851-7905 are officially registers as pending. Interestingly enough they show as 2018’s whereas and the batch before those are listed as 2019’s.

The XDE order has actually been complete for a while now actually. 1 of each version were audit configuration buses. They were for Zerega and NFI.

This signals what’s coming in a post I will soon be making about the hybrid order which is now pending, along with the express order, and expedited MTA Bus standard order that may be in the works earlier than planned.

I just passed 6141 as well. FB may actually be getting a few more of the older ones from Quill to make up for the loss of new buses.

More to come in Fleet & Depots this evening.

The last time the MTA ordered a 96" bus was in 1980, and that wasn't intended for MTA service, but to be operated by the Avenue B and East Broadway Company, but they went out of business (their route was today's M9). That is also the only time.

I'm actually surprised that New Flyer doesn't consider stretching the XD40 (and add a tag axle) for higher density routes that require frequency. Only in Los Angeles are there 45-foot low floor buses.

Don’t forget Arizona. I made a mistake and realized I typed Florida in my post. That was an error. Arizona and LA have them actually.

As I said previously, there was no major business case for the bus therefore no need for NFI to even think about considering it. Adding a tag to a Xcelsior wouldn’t work anyway unless the buses went back to all-steel. It’s not durable enough, nor would it be worth the development money. It would not sell very well at all, and you would have an extra long rear section and 2 axels would now have to sit under the floor. The Xcelsior touts it’s fuel efficiency and a 2-axel would have all but killed that.

In addition to all that, another reason it was never considered (other than not being efficient in any way) is because NFI has wanted MCI for years. They have wanted them since the D45HF was continued. It just wasn’t public knowledge. Hence the next gen D4500 now basically having a tradition NFI designation. D45 CRT and D45 CRT/LE

  22. 14 minutes ago, Cait Sith said:

On top of this, at one point, New Jersey Transit was going to order 45Cs for the GOBus services....I still wonder what happened with that deal that made them back off. I know part of it was because of the increasing costs.

Correct. The costs kept going up, composites were not cheap at all then, and things just started to unravel. They wanted NABI to take weight out the rear end also which caused the price to rise significantly. I still have yet to ride one, but I will try to catch a few in LA before they retire.

I totally forgot NJT was in the mix. Thanks for the reminder!

  23. 4 hours ago, Orion6025 said:

My understanding was that it's a parts/training reason. It's easier and cheaper to have everyone trained on one bus instead of two, creating the misc pockets on just one model around the city.

Has nothing to do with training. Quill had 9 different bus models when the XDE’s were there.

It’s all about parts and logistics. When you group buses together you save on parts and maintenance costs by having common buses at a Depot. You don’t need to stock as many parts, have as many training procedures

8 hours ago, King Transit said:

Same with UP and ENY that gave up their LFS', the BK depots cannot get the LFS' due to mileage purposes/proposals(besides durability). Brooklyn is one of the shortest boroughs that don't have the big corridors(spaced out widths), so those Xcelsiors they have are deemed better for the stop/go process.

This is 100% false. Every single word of it. Did you just make this shit up as you typed it? Smfh. You really need to stop with the inaccurate information like right now. This is NOT the first time and you are now starting to piss me off royally. What the heck does the width of some street or lack there of have to do with where the buses are assigned. Every heavy-duty transit in America (as well as express buses) are now offered in 102 inch widths ONLY.

Not sure why some of you continue to think that some buses are wider than others when they are ALL the same, and have been here in NY since before you were born.

This is your FINAL warning, and I am most certain you do NOT want to take me to the next level.

    8 hours ago, ABOGbrooklyn said:

How come Brooklyn depots get no LFS? Would like to see them on South Brooklyn lines.

See above. Overall, Brooklyn doesn’t want them and when I submitted my maintenance proposal to MTA they decided my plan was best and would be implemented immediately. Many people don’t like the way it has gone, but it makes sense for more reasons than one. That is why CS and FB lost and are looking the LFSA’s for XD60’s. Now they will have a common fleet that shared common parts.

Operators did not like the visibility, hence MTA basically forcing Nova to come out with a new model or risk loosing orders. Many ops however continue to complain about visibility in the curbside of the bus.

To a lesser extent, The LFS does not hold as many people as an Xcelsior which was also mentioned above. It was deemed that they would not be good for routes like the B6, which has remained heavily RTS even after all the Xcelsiors have come in. Another reason MTA worked with nova to change the seating arrangement and add more capacity.

The LFSA’s will be left where they are and there will be small overlaps as the years go on and NFI equipment outnumbers Nova equipment. For example you have a Depot like JA that has a split fleet.

When the hybrids come in, assignments for those too will be based on the type selected. The order will either be for all XDE40, or split with a few LFS Hybrids in there.

If it goes all New Flyer, KB, GH, And QV will also become split ops depots. If it is a split award (that by the way is now in final deception and due at the end of this month) the assignments will be similar to what they are now.

SI will be the only division that will not get any. They will transition straight into electric, and dual Artic/electric duty-cycle testing will begin in SI soon after all the XE60’s are delivered and integrated into the system.
