  1. I'm not sure if it Served Gordon Heights, but the route was called the S64. It went from Smith Haven Mall to at least Coarm Via Saint James and Stony Brook Village. Before the S56 was created by SCT it went to Commack. The S60 was a route that was created before SCT by the Stony Brook University Student government. It went from Smith Haven Mall to Port Jefferson Station. I'm not sure when the merge of the routes happen as I can only confirm that they were like that until 1987, though I'm assuming it was during the 1990 route cuts.
  2. IMO that BRT study is a waste of money. No matter how well intention it is, a BRT route won't ease congestion on Nicholl's road like he thinks. Not to mention with Suffolk always having budget gaps with Suffolk Transit I fail to see how the County could afford it. Especially with the announcement earlier in the year and again much recently that they may have to cut routes or runs.
  3. Problem is though, how do you explain the cuts to those retirement villages in Ridge that only the 5A serves. Not to mention the Sound Beach civic association who fought for an earlier 5A run to Port Jefferson Plaza The Parallel with the S62 is only along 25A in Sound Beach to Rocky Point, a Section in Miller Place and from South Columbia to Port Jefferson Plaza. To me not enough to give a parallel a reason. The whole reason the 5A was extended to Port Jefferson in the first place was to give riders in Ridge a better ride to the Port Jefferson medical area in and around Mather Hospital. Now I'm not saying the route shouldn't be cut if it's not carrying enough passengers, it should be. I'm merely saying it shouldn't be done just because it parallel's another route. Not to mention the S62 use to go the way the 5A does up until the 5A was extended to Port Jefferson. (Now the S62 goes that way once before the 5A starts and once after the 5A ends) Another interesting thing is if it weren't for budget problem SCT wouldn't have the S60 as it is today.
  4. Most likely a bunch of feeders and a few non feeders. Last time route cuts came up I heard the routes that were up for elimination were the 5A, S76, and S56. Other possibilities are probably S25, S35, 7D/E, 7A. Though if the go on the eliminating runs then who knows what routes could be any routes. (Though I doubt it will be from any of the most traveled routes.)
  5. Last I heard was that it was either eliminate the 10 least used routes or cut least used runs, not both.
  6. Maybe there was a reason that the other driver wasn't aware of?
  7. Probably because they think that in this day an age, everyone has access to either a smart phone or has a social media page.

  9. According to the news report I heard this morning that was because the accident bent the frame which prevented the driver from being able to open the door. I don't think that means that the bus will be scrapped I mean the doors can be replaced, I'm sure the MTA has buses they can salvage doors from, and depending on how server the frame was damaged it can probably be repaired or replaced.
  10. If they wanted to get the earlier bus then like I said it's the person's own fault for playing frogger. It's not NICE's fault that people don't want to wait for the next bus and therefore thought it was better to play a dangerous game of frogger to catch their earlier bus. Famous that still didn't answer my question on how you know that it was caused by what she said and not because of or also caused by lets say the roadway had pot holes or such. It's horrible that she was injured but unless you have hard facts other then what she told you, how do you know she told you the truth or a can of worms. No I'm not saying the lady was lying, for all I know she could be telling the truth, I have no way of proving whether or not she's telling the truth. I'm just merely stating that you have no way of knowing if she's telling the truth either, unless of course you were on the able-rides with her and didn't say anything LOL. I admit I wanted to use another word too, however only speeding came to mind. Out of Curiosity what term would you have used instead of speeding?
  11. I noticed that, also was waiting for someone to point that out, and I apologize seriously did not think that the discussion would have evolved like it did.
  12. I have a question if you took the 10:00 n20G and it was to connect to the 11:00 n20H why are you talking about crossing the road to get the 10:30 n20H? Unless you typed the wrong time, then playing Frogger to cross the road would be your own fault because it sounds like you went to get the earlier bus then waiting for the the connection bus. Which wouldn't have nothing to do with NICE or the n20G/H not working. Pretty sure speeding violates the law, not just ADA. How do you know that the bumpy ride was only due to speeding and turning, I assume fast, and that road conditions didn't also make it bumpy?
  13. Under CBS Lines that use to be the start of the Drivers Lunch Breaks, whether that had something to do with why nothing was changed especially when who owned the routes were questioned I have no clue. Suffolk either didn't or doesn't feel like a change is needed or believes that a change wouldn't be cost effective. I still remember when the S58 extension to Riverhead was announced and it was rumored that the S58 was suppose to head up from Coram to Port Jefferson Sta and follow the S62. I was around 10 at the time and saw problems with that, like the cutting off of the Middle Island Stop as well as such a move would require the S58 to either follow the S60 or S61 up from Coram which really didn't make sense.
  14. I was aware of all that (Hopefully that doesn't sound as rude as it sounds in my head), though I wasn't sure if the Patchouge-Centereach-Ronkonkoma route had been like that S63 or 7A. Any idea if the St.James-Lake Ronkonkoma Route was a separate route? Also unless it was was a summer time spur or like every other bus, the 1969 map had the Sayville route going right to the Lake.
  15. Not sure about how SBC does their scheduling, however under CBS Lines a S62 could do up to three round trips. The first S62 out of Port Jefferson Sta, weeksdays (6:00 am) did three round trip, plus the short trip of Port Jefferson Sta. to Riverhead and a short trip from Hauppauge to Port Jefferson Sta, where they were relieved. The S62 use to get most of it's passengers from Smith Haven Mall heading to Riverhead and most likely from Riverhead to Smith Haven Mall, which is why Suffolk extended the S58 to Riverhead. The S62 use to be quite full before the S58 extension heading out towards Riverhead and reverse. The S62 use to carry a hand full of passengers to Hauppauge but not like the numbers it carried to Riverhead. I really don't think that ' Gets most of it's passengers between Smith Haven Mall and Mount Sinai', the few times I've been on the S62 a few years ago, nobody got on or off around the Port Jefferson Sta/Mt. Sinai and that was around mid-day. In fact I was the ONLY person getting off at Port Jefferson Sta. The Hauppauge Service is kept because it's needed for those who have to get to the New York State and County offices that are there that come from the east, as there are only two routes that go to Hauppage from the east part of Suffolk and the S62 is the ONLY one of those two that serves a handful of the important ones. Back in the late 90's my mother had to take the S62 to the NYS Department of Labor office in Hauppage, which the S62 serves and therefore was a one seat ride. In 2000 my mom had to go back, we had recently moved and because of that she had to take two buses to get there. One to the State Building and then she had to transfer either to the S62, S33, or S27 to get to the Department of Labor. The S62 in Hauppauge serves a purpose, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it exists.
  16. Probably 1958 or later, or at least that's when it had probably started running under the Coram name, since Coram Bus Service was incorporated in 1958. The 1969 map from what I can tell doesn't support that routeing, the 1969 map has what the route making a right off Lake Ave towards Commack, then there is a second line coming from Commack following part of the current S56 however it turns left at some point and passes by the Saint James RR station before heading straight for where it seems to be Smith Haven Mall would be. The 1969 map shows a route going to St. James RR from what looks like Sayville. (I can't only clearly make out the line up to Lake Ronkonkoma, but there is a line that comes up to Lake Ronkonkoma from Sayville.) Smith Haven Mall opened in 1969. The S62 wasn't run by Coram at that time and had only, to my knowledge, gone to Port Jefferson Sta. I'm not sure when it was extended to Hauppauge. Also it's not really the same trajectory, NYS 347 is a straight shoot from Port Jefferson Sta to Smith Haven Mall. the S60 travels on NYS 25A which has alot of twists and turns and
  17. Detroit Diesel isn't at Ronkonkoma anymore. They left a few years ago and the location was taken over by Cummins.
  18. When did it run to Commack? I never heard that it ran to/from Commack from what I've been heard. And I've heard about it from two former riders and Newspaper articles where the route is mentioned and it's never mentioned that it went to Commack. The News paper articles are from the 70's, as there was a big brew ha-ha, between Coram Bus Service and SUNY Stony Brook's student body over a bus line to Smith Haven Mall to the College with a stop at a local Supermarket, that directly says that the route to Port Jefferson Sta went from there to Smith Haven Mall, with not mention of Commack, so the best I can say is if it went to Commack the route was changed sometime by the early to mid 70's. The copy I have of the 1969 bus map I have on my computer is of no help, as it's to small to make out the route identifiers the companies used back then, also I don't think it was done to scale. and makes it look like there were two different routes that went through Saint James at the time.
  19. That was the route number given to the Original Port Jefferson-Smith Haven Mall via Saint James and Stony Brook Village?
  20. I'm not sure what the reason for the S21 elimination was. All I know was that i heard that it was shown on a Nassau system map in the early 80's and then on the next map a few years later it was gone. It could have been eliminated because of low ridership or it may have been eliminated because it paralleled the S1 for alot of it's journey. (There was another route, Coram Bus Service's original route from Port Jefferson Plaza to Smith Haven Mall Via Saint James and Stony Brook, that was axed partly do to ridership and partly do to it paralleling the S60, which was itself created from three separate routes. I'm not sure what the route number was for that short carried route but from what I heard it was in the 90's.)
  21. My bet would be that driver was either new or had just recently picked the route or a sub driver that didn't really know the route. (The latter is likely since EBT drivers who picked the S57 and S63, after EBT got the routes in 2012 after Suffolk redid how they bid the routes, were said to have gotten lost because they didn't really know the routes.) The S21 is already on the books as a retired route. But why use a new route number when it's easier to use the same route number for both loops, like Suffolk is doing?
  22. You are aware that the state just gave Nassau some money for transportation I'm not exactly sure how much it was since it was a split with Suffolk, though I heard that it was around 3 to 4 million. While I doubt it was 45 million, I'm sure they don't actually have 45 million since if they did, they wouldn't be talking about finding additional revenue to fund the restored lines for next year since that much money would fund the routes for a few years. (So if they did have 45 million the only reason to warn about finding more funding for the restored lines would be that they are putting only enough to fund the restored lines for a year and putting the rest into the rest of the service which is the opposite of what they are saying) However just because you didn't find anything on Nassau's website doesn't mean that they are lying, depending on who is maintaining the website it could show that they don't have their site updated up to the minute. Since it's a Committee maybe somebody felt that it wasn't of importance, especially if it isn't attached like say to the Legislature or some other body of government , there therefore the Transit Advisory Committee didn't warrant an online presence. I mean remember it cost money to have a website. Unless you of cost you go the free route, though those probably don't allow you the space have all the minutes and whatever else you want. And whose going to spend money on something someone deems unimportant. .
  23. Obviously they feel that currently the service isn't need. Nobody is going to run a bus without knowing if they will make, at least some money; nor will they do it just so the bus has a shorter deadhead time. Why take William Floyd Pwy to get to the Ronkonkoma Yard when it's probably easier and quicker to use Sunrise Highway?
  24. Really. I use to walk that far, if not a bit farther to the supermarket. Heck I walked roughly that much for roughly 180 days last school year and it never felt that long to me.
  25. Yes SBC doesn't use the Coram Bus yard on Sundays as the S58 is the only route out of that yard that has Sunday Service. Since most of SBC's Sunday Service is on routes that are operated out of the Ronkonkoma Yard (The S40 and S45 are the only ones that aren't out of Ronkonkoma) they probably decided it made sense to use that one yard, The 3D is also operated out of the Ronkonkoma Yard on Sundays, but operated out of Bay Shore HQ on weekdays The S71 deadhead to Ronkonkoma or Coram (Not sure if it was switched) from Shirley is probably pretty long pretty. Also the deadhead from the Ronkonkoma Yatd for the S66 to Center Moriches (1st Westbound bus) and the last bus to Riverhead is also probably long. However the S58 doesn't deadhead to/from East Northport. The 58 Deadheads is to/from either Middle Island or Riverhead.
