  1. All deficiencies are submitted internally to Ops planning. DOT makes repairs as needed to bus stop furniture. Bus stop announcements issues as go to Ops planning and are usually fixed when the next pick goes into affect.
  2. Good morning all, I'm looking for assistance with identifying issues with bus announcements on Manhattan Bus routes. For example I found an issue with the Westbound M42 bus stop at W 42nd Street & Broadway Stop code# 403354. There is no bus stop there but the bus still make announcement. Also if you happen to find missing information on a bus stop furniture (pole, route sign, destination sign, count down clock defective). A perfect example would look like at 10th Avenue & W 49th Street M11 local route panel signage is missing at stop code# 401410. please include an image of defect if possible. Any help on the matter is appreciated as I will attempt to rectify issues with NYC DOT & MTA
  3. Well how was day 2 and 3 on the road? Good luck guys.
  4. Word of advice, pack lunch food is expensive near zerega and you have to wait for it. They beat us MTA employees and The sanitation workers over the head with the prices.
  5. So you’re pissed that the driver made a decided to be safe instead of boarding passengers where they could have been injured. I mean I would do everything in my power to get into the bus stop but if it not happening it not happening. I was not there so I can’t comment but many people don't see the whole picture which we are trained to do as professionals. Was there a fire truck or other emergency vehicle that had it lights and sirens on? Was there another X10 right behind him but everyone was so focus on seeing a X10 that it blinded you and the others from seeing the other X10 right behind it. I rather complaints then having someone step out in the street and possible get injured or even killed all for a bus. I know the feeling of waiting for a bus in the cold. It really sucks, and when you see your bus it the only thing in the world that matters and you say to yourself thank god, I hope it warm inside and there a seat. Once again I was not there nor do I know who was right or wrong, all I have to say before jumping to conclusion make sure you look at the whole picture. Remember SAFETY FIRST and I’m taking about yours not mine. If the guy was an ass i apologizes but don't classify me or the other 7000 operators as a--holes. The MTA don't want to hear that we were being nice guys when someone falls on my stairs out of a bus stop, I know the chances are slim to none but i wont take that chance. It's nothing personal but im not risking my pay ,benefits, pension etc... nor would i ask you to jeopardize your lively hood for my benefit of a mere 20 minutes or what ever the head ways were at the time P.S. I have no intention of starting a flame war here, just a view from a MTA Bus Operator.
  6. SimMan I want to say thank you for your post. Just have this weird feeling after reading your post that you might be someone that is working in Zerega instructing student the MTA way, anyways thanks for your post.
  7. Checkers do many job as stated before. They do counts in bus stop, counts of people on trains and counts of people alighting and boarding a bus. They make sure we are courteous to customers and write down to the second our duration's in the bus stop. With that being said B/O's don't like checkers cause can't mouth off the the A-holes, cant run hot and usually when the checkers are around is when they are looking to do cuts not additions to a line. A little off topic but I once had a checker who was getting drunk on my bus. Next time you are on a bus and you see someone sitting in the first seat near the front door wearing a orange MTA vest and clip board, that's a checker.
  8. Just listen to the instructors also at zerega try to remember faces there. They are the people that will be giving undercover rides. slow and smooth is the key and check your mirrors

  9. Yes they will show you everything, brakes and mirrors were the hardest to get the hang of. You have to have them mentality to say to yourself "if they can do it, i can too". dont be intimated by the bus but do respect it. I think everyone that visits this forums before training has a heads up and the pressure is just that much less.
  10. The air brakes are very sensitive. I think that was the hardest part of learning how to drive the bus was how much pressure to apply for a smooth stop. I know when i was in training with in the first 5 mins of training ,the instructor show us how strong the brakes were by rolling at 5 mph and jamming on the brake. i felt like my arms were pulled out of the socket.
  11. sorry it was late at night LOL. From the picture you can see that the front glass is 2 pieces of glass. All RTS are like similar. When your driving the bus that right angle that i pointed out(red arrow) is your guide.remeber you will be in the drivers seat looking from the inside out, i could not find a picture from the drivers seat. now if you put that right angle on the curb line you will never hit the curb. you will be 3-5 inches away.this trick also works with the Orions and Newflyers (artics) is drove since the front glass is divide into 2 pieces. hopefully i made this clearer. sometime things are better show them said. I will take a picture today and post later tonight.
  12. little secret when pulling into a curb( Bus Stop). The drivers front window is divided in half, if you put the right angle that is made by the Middle window break and the bottom of the front glass on the curble in you would be inches from the curb and make be a perfect distance from the curb 3-5 inches. I pointed out the Corner im talking about, also thanks to whoever photo that was Green bus was my favorite back in the daytobad they never looked like that when i rode them. http://flic.kr/ps/WFxQz
  13. seen this in the Depot (Fresh Pond) 9524-9526,9535,9537-9542,9556,9559,9566,9568-9570 leaving FP to Grand 8778 leaving FP to LGA 8789,8840,8847 Leaving FP to West Farms 8752 leaving FP to Flatbush 9339 ENY to QV 6009,6209 Leaving West Farm to KB 6198 leaving Gun Hill to KB
  14. Something like that north-east bound end in a even number, south-west bound are odd. 1062 might be 42 street or 1064 might be 34th street 1063 might be to chambers and so on . Usally if is starts with a 1XXX it is manhattan 4XXX is brooklyn 5XXX is queen, I cant comment on staten island or the bronx.there are odd ones out there like 8149 which is M14 8 ave (no D or A) Now i have a Question. Does any know where i can find code data base including the P/R codes ? Also I'll try making a video of me working the luminator(don't hold your breath)
  15. yes 1060 is correct. if it was going to south 1061
  16. Yes there is a standard database that all the bus luminator have. It in the P/R(public relations) part of our of Luminator
