  1. This ever changing guide is intended to allow everyone to enjoy the art and activity of photography without worrying about the outcome of your images. The newest updates on lower cost cameras and comparatively inexpensive higher end cameras will be highlighted here on a monthly basis by me but everyone is welcome to contribute. I am dedicated to helping everyone meet their needs when it comes to photography. It helps people participate in events and capture memories and interesting goings on and share it with others. The next post will be a list of features you should look for when purchasing a camera aside from cost. If you feel something is wrong or missing please feel free to chime in!
  2. It was an email.

  3. That is an EMD E60CP. They are officially referred to as multilevels as there is a 3rd intermediate seating level of substantial size at either end of the car. Though some multilevels have a bike rack & bathroom at one end the name still applies. - A
  4. All i really have are some schedules from (SEPTA) and (NJT), and a ton of seat checks, even one i found at GCT from MNRR. - A
  5. Hey Eric. You got a lot of talent with graphic design. I was wondering if you could make for the site the NJT genesis locomotives? Since NJT only has a few of them, would be cool as an avatar i think! Thanks!

  6. The line is more likely to get PA5 cars than anything else, because PA5 are FRA cleared, and they are about to make about a hundred or so of them for PATH. If they did that, they could do dual mode cat/3rdrail trains or modify the HBLR cars to run on 3rd rail as well and bam there ya go. Not likely, but possible. - Andy
  7. Yea, i know. Doesnt apply for monopods, or the one i'll be getting anyways, as it doubles from a walking stick. Tripods would be for street photos, not subway stuff. - Andy
  8. ROW is the property that a transportation company owns/operates on and through. It can include many acres of land, or just the land the track sits on plus a minimal clearance area to each side. ROW can also mean something with road or marine traffic. The rules and laws governing ROW usage and operation are somewhat complicated, but for heavy rail subway etc basically it means you can put track down, build infrastructure to support rolling stock, its storage, upkeep, etc. Sunnyside yard is the largest ROW in an urban area, and only exists as we know it because PRR bought the land before the area was developed as it is today. LIRR west side yard ROW only applies to the grade of the yard and not air rights, some ROW retain air rights for future expansion of structures & services, or to maintain the loading gauge for proper clearances. - Andy
  9. I am going to upgrade my stuff this autumn i hope. Also get a monopod, carry case for it, a window mount, and hopefully some other stuff. I guess we'll see! - Andy
  10. Some cameras have different denotations for things. - Andy
  11. Railroad law can be found at the FRA website, but i can say now 3rd rail etc doesn't matter, a railroad ROW in my opinion is able to carry freight and passengers. LIRR sees freight overnight, MNRR sees freight all the time, and SIR USED to be a heavily utilized freight line. PATH's ROW also sees freight usage, but it is all most isolated from the national rail network, so it is somewhat at risk of losing heavy rail status under the FRA rules. I personally don't think they will bother changing the rules for SIR or PATH because the system could be used for freight in the future. - Andy
  12. Olympus for me! Stylus 600 with 256 meg card (sold to girlfriend B)) SP560UZ with 1 gig card Stylus 770SW with 1 gig card. What i'd like to have is a SP570UZ, and a Stylus 1030SW each with 2 gig card. - Andy
  13. I rarely see railroad (yes its a railroad) drivers/engineers wearing any type of official clothing. They are usually dressed very casually with a "i work for ___ and drive trains" ID usually around their neck or pinned to shirt. PATH drivers can be a craps shoot of how they are dressed, but they usually have some kind of "nice" clothes on and a driver's cap, but they do it because the PATH system has different security rules for employees. - Andy
  14. According to several sites (i believe including forgotten-ny.com) they are in the process of installing fare control, and updating existing implementations along the entire route. I believe this means smart link card upgrades are going to be seen soon as well. It'd be nice to hear from someone with info on this project have their input here to see what exactly is going on. - Andy
  15. Staten island deserves good rail transportation, a lot of cops, fire fighters etc live there, plus they are part of the city too, should make it easy to get around. - Andy
  16. Actually only 2 stations didn't have turnstiles, and they were being installed last i heard. - Andy
  17. Cool photos! I have a feeling a new bridge will have both PATH and (NJT) light rail running on it, especially with the PA5 cars coming into play. Maybe one side will have catenary, and the other side 3rd rail? - Andy
  18. I'm going in september from one end to the other via the SIF. - Andy
  19. Well NJ transit goes 80-100 mph. Only amtrak & the new alp-46a njt trains go over 100 mph.

  20. Yea, 80-125 mph!

  21. You should post more! :)
