  1. First of all IMHO, these changes should only take place in the autumn and spring, with either shuttle buses, or extended late night bus substitutions. Weather can play a major part in such GOs. Let's take a look at each of these shutdowns: 1. Lexington Avenue Shutdown between Grand Central and Atlantic Avenue Alternatives: 7th Avenue : All stops between New Lots Avenue and Borough Hall connecting to Manhattan. Supplemental service served by the local 2 train. Transfer necessary to Broadway trains (N/Q/R) especially if traveling between Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. Transfer necessary to the Flushing train to transfer in Manhattan between 7th and Lexington lines. Broadway (N/Q): Connects with Brooklyn trains at Atlantic Avenue, and Lexington Avenue trains at 59th Street. Supplemental service served by the ® train running overnight and making local stops. Below 14th Street, the Broadway line parallels the Lexington Avenue line. 6th Avenue : Connects with 4 at Atlantic Avenue and 161st Street. Should be promoted for certain passengers. Shuttle Bus: Between 59th Street and 14th Street. Provides Midtown East riders connection to the Lexington Avenue line at 59th or 42nd Streets, and Broadway line N and R trains at 14th Street. M1: A full length M1 bus running overnight may give Manhattan residents a one seat ride avoiding all of this mess during this time. 2. 7th Avenue line shutdown between 34th Street and Atlantic Avenue. If they are particularly working on the tracks between Chambers and Atlantic Avenue, the can run to South Ferry, and the can run normal. The alternatives are easiest for this shutdown even if service is affected. Alternatives: Lexington Avenue Line: The 4 and 5 trains would run in Brooklyn to New Lots and Flatbush Avenues in Brooklyn making all local stops. Would require a connection to the lines listed below or transfer at 42nd Street for the 7 or shuttle trains to connect to the 2 and 3 trains or stop at nearby stations. Also what should be considered at this time is a northern terminal switch for the 2 and 5 trains (5 to 241 Street, 2 to Dyre), allowing through service for passengers traveling between the Bronx and Brooklyn. Broadway Line: The Q train would provide quick connection between Times Square and Atlantic Avenue for service to New Lots and Flatbush. Sixth Avenue Line: Between 34th Street and West 4th Streets, D train making local stops, can help people below 42nd Street get a train going to Brooklyn for connection with the train. The D would connect with the Seventh Avenue line at 59th Street and 14th Street. The D would connect with Lexington Avenue Service at Broadway-Lafayette and Atlantic Avenue. Eighth Avenue Line: The A would run parallel to the 1/2 making all stops between 42nd Street and Chamber Streets, and connect with the Lexington Avenue line at Fulton Street. During this time a night shuttle making local stops between 145th Street and West 4th Street, then via 6th Avenue to Pacific Street if trackwork requires 1 trains to be shutdown would be helpful. 3. Eighth Avenue Line Shutdown between 59th Street and Jay Street. Most likely this would mean re-routing all A and E trains down 6th Avenue. Alternatives are for those not wishing to walk the extra two blocks. Alternatives: 7th Avenue: The 2 and 3 (extended to South Ferry) trains would provide local service for nearby A stops between Chambers Streets and 59th Streets. Transfer available to Sixth Avenue trains directly at 14th Street for E/F trains. Transfer to the Flushing Line at 42nd Street for service to Queens. Sixth Avenue: The A would run via 6th Avenue or the E would be extended down Fulton Street to Far Rockaway. Connection to 7th Avenue line at 59th Street or 14th Streets, and Lexington Avenue trains at Broadway-Lafayette. Broadway Line: The N and R trains would make local stops on the Broadway Line overnight, and connect with the at Jay St, and 34th Streets, and with the at 34th Street, and in Queens. Both trains also connect with the Seventh Avenue Line at 42nd Street, South Ferry, and Atlantic Avenue
  2. New Bx8: Runs from Woodlawn/Katonah to current southern terminal via Katonah, 233rd Street, and then Bronxwood, when it continues down the current route. The Bx8 would replace the Bx31 and Bx34 buses. New Bx31: Runs from Wakefield / MNRR station to Westchester Square via 241st Street, Baychester Avenue, Nereid Avenue, Mundy Lane, Baychester Avenue, 233rd Street, Laconia Avenue, then continues down current route. This would replace the Bx16 along the current streets. New Bx16: Pelham/Ropes to Fordham/Valentine via 233rd Street Crosstown. Would run on 233rd Street from Dyre Avenue to Jerome Avenue, replacing the Bx31. This bus would also replace the Bx34 bus along Bainbridge/Valentine Avenues to Fordham, and would run 7 days a week. New Bx23: Runs from Woodlawn/Katonah to Flushing/Main Street, Queens via Katonah, 233rd Street, Webster, Nereid, Mundy Ln, Pitman, Baychester, 233rd Street, Dyre Avenue, Boston Road, Conner Street, Baychester Avenue, Co-Op City Blvd. (East Side Co-Op City) to Pelham Bay Park, then assumes old QBx1 route to Flushing, making all stops. Bx25: Runs from Woodlawn/Katonah to Flushing/Main Street (alternate of Bx23) via Katonah, 233rd Street, Baychester Avenue, Boston Road, Conner Street, Co-Op City Blvd. (Western half), Baychester Avenue to Pelham Bay Park, then assumes old QBx1 route to Flushing, making all stops. The Bx23 and Bx25 routes are alternates of each other, one runs on the east side of Co-Op City, the other on the west. Special rush hour shuttle buses would still run between Pelham Bay Park and Co-Op City, but those buses would be given letters A-F. The Q44 and Q50 would both become SBS routes running from Jamaica to the Bronx. Bx15 SBS: Harlem/12th Avenue to Williamsbridge/White Plains Road. This new bus is essentially the old Bx55 bus. Late nights replaced by the Local bus. Bx15 Local: Mott Haven/138th Street to Fordham Plaza. Late nights runs the full route making all local stops. Late night buses runs every 30 minutes. Bx41 SBS: Harlem/12th Avenue to Williamsbridge/White Plains Road. Bx41 Local: Mott Haven/138 Street to Fordham Plaza. Bx17: Runs from Williamsbridge/White Plains Road to Port Morris/135th Street. Bx18 Limited: Runs from Fordham Plaza to Harlem/St. Nicholas Avenue, making limited stops along Bx17 route, then replacing Bx33 bus from St. Ann's Avenue/138th Street to Harlem. Old Bx18 replaced by Bx40/Bx42/Bx43. Bx32: Extended from Mott Haven/138th Street to Port Morris/East 132nd Street via 138th Street, complementing the Bx18 Limited, and replacing the Bx33, giving S. Bronx residents better service. Bx19 SBS: Makes Limited stops along 145 Street, 149th Street and Southern Blvd. Bx19A Local: Runs from Gateway Mall to 149th Street, then along Bx19 Local route to Botanical Gardens. Bx13: Extended to Hunts Point, replacing the Bx6. Bx5 SBS: Pelham Bay Park to Harlem/157th Street, replacing the Bx6, making limited stops along 161 Street (Bx6), Story Avenue & Bruckner Blvd (Bx5). Bx5 Local: White Plains Road to Harlem/157th Street, replacing the Bx6, making local stops along 161 Street. New Bx6: Bainbridge/Gun Hill Road to Gateway Mall via Bainbridge, Mosholu Pkwy, Sedgwick Avenue, University Avenue, then down Bx13 route to Yankee Stadium, then down River Avenue to Gateway Mall. Bx43 Limited: Makes limited stops along E. Tremont Avenue. (Westchester Square to River Park Towers) Bx40/Bx 42 extended down Undercliff/Sedgwick Avenues replacing Bx18 (would still pass by the towers). To be continued:
  3. I would actually like to see the M8 come to the Staten Island Railway myself.
