  1. If a q50 run is interlined with the bx23 you will see an rts on the q50. If the run is not interlined with the bx23 you will see an Orion 5. Management wants to avoid road calls in queens, obviously the rts being an older vehicle will breakdown more often than an Orion 5. Another scenario is if there is no more equipment on the property but rts's then that's what the driver will get. P.S. the passengers don't hate rts's they hate the bus service in co-op city, the bx23 & bx30 being the main culprits of delayed service
  2. yes that is true tj trainman. eastchester does not want any rts's on the q50 beacause they don't want any breakdowns on the queens side. drivers were warned, & memos are posted " no rts on q50"
  3. i have a very reliable source at eastchester depot and i gave him the list that tj posted & it is 100% acurate as of easter sunday. i don't know if anything has changed since then.
  4. what's up cpbo, here's how it's going to work. fall pick c point gets qm 10 & 11, winter pick the rest of the express runs qm 12/22/24/24 wall street. in return lga will get 67/100/102/103/104. i just don't know in what order or if all in one shot, or for what pick. now i don't know if those express lines will maintain a mon-fri schedule or will they run on wknds also.
  5. from a bus operators point of view the 1800's & 1900's have 4 problems 1. to kneel the bus you have to pull the parking brake, put the bus in neutral, then kneel the bus. 2. most of the buttons on the dash have no labels so you have to flip everything up or down to see what the function is. 3. if you pull the parking brake & don't release it within 30 seconds the bus automatically shifts to neutral without the usual beeping sound, this is dangerous because you think the bus is in drive and it starts to roll back while you're accelerating. 4. the retarder (a mechanism that helps the braking of the bus) really kicks in hard, it feels like someone has rear-ended you. i might sound picky but these are my personal issues with these 1800's & 1900's
  6. 8618 is at lga. still has the new york city bus logo on back, it has 6 cameras inside & the destination sign has not been re-programmed with the lga routes
  7. the 71xx's from lga depot are ex-triboro coach buses, the 97xx's are old queens surface buses. sadly they are disappearing. the acceleration is bad & the turning radius is short but i'll take these nova rts buses anyday over the 80xx's or 81xx's at lga
  8. question for all forum members. which mta bus routes need limited bus service & why. also would you like mta bus buses to use the orange & purple sign oa/ta uses on their limited buses.
  9. doing the q45 on 80st under l.i.e. ovepass the timing belt broke on my rts(forgot what number), a very loud boom! boom! passengers in the back got scared & ran to the front. group of people on the street hit the floor & ran for cover thinking it was a drive-by shooting & a dog was running around in circles. wish someone had been recording that moment. very funny moment
  10. engineer boy thanks for your reply, it's been the best one so far. i made this thread not to be made fun of it's just that sometimes b/o's need alternatives from the customary restrooms used. once again thanks engineer boy
  11. this is not a nova rts bus but thought i would post anyway. 8327 which spent little time at lga is now at grand avenue depot with the mta bus logo on the back. saw it on jackson ave in LI City. west farms depot in the bronx has a whole bunch of rts buses with mta bus logo on the back, will try to post them as i see them
  12. nice story cpbo had a good laugh. i will post some of my own very soon as well. by the way cpbo have you heard anything about the q100 going to lga? apparently mta wants to transfer the q39 from lga depot to fresh pond depot & in return the q100 goes from cp to lga depot. mta likes to keep bus routes close to the depots, the swaps make sense but then to have like 300-350 b/o from each depot go through line training is crazy. lol.

  14. alot of drivers were observed going above the speed limit while deadheading on local streets & highways so some buses are being governed at 45mph, it's hit or miss i do know that all 37xx, 71xxx, 97xx, some 36xx some 93xx are governed at 45mph. 80xx-83xx are slow anyway but i haven't noticed any governing. 84xx & 85xx are not governed. it's a shame because sometimes you need that extra power.
  15. i like this question alot i will help you to the best of my knowledge bx11 13 36: last stop is 179st & broadway far corner. from there the bus goes to the next corner (ft. washington ave.) makes a left to 178st. then another left and the first stop is there. the bx3 & 35: the last stop is 179st & broadway near corner. both buses make a right turn on bway to 181st then make anothe right & start picking up on wadsworth & 181st. bx.7: last stop is 168st & bway near corner, from there it keeps going down bway to 166st makes a left to st. nicholas then another left on st. nicholas & starts picking up midblock btwn 167st & 168st. bx.15: stays on 125st to 12.ave, makes a left on 12 ave then a left back on 125st. 125st shows up on two different blocks in that area, very strange. q18: last stop is 27ave & 2st. the bus stays on 27ave to 1st street, makes a right to 26 ave to 2st, a right on 2st to 27 ave, then a left on 27 ave starts picking up from there. q23: last stop is ditmars blvd & 102st. the bus stays on ditmars and goes around a rotunda back onto ditmars and starts picking up on 102st & ditmars
  16. hey q25 you can always go to lga depot. there are alot of tmc rts buses from 1990. all the low 8xxx are tmc's. have fun
  17. the only difference that the ng hybrids from lga depot have is that they are brand new from the chrysler/orion factory, the batch of ng's that mhv depot is running on the m60's are really beat-up & have excessively high mileage.
  18. even though mta bus was spared by the doomsday cuts, mta bus routes will be switching depots in the very near future. dob (department of buses) wants to keep bus routes close to depots to save fuel and keep non-revenue miles low on the bus fleet. so be on the look out for major route depot swapping.
  19. hello all, thought i would start a thread so that fellow b/o & members of the forum can post restrooms. sometimes we b/o's need alternate restrooms. it would be helpful to all of us b/o's.
  20. hello my fellow members, don't be discouraged jfk/far rock depot still have 2 (two) buses with the rolling signs, they usually run on the q22 line. i hope that helps.
  21. from what i have understood yonkers depot has overage of drivers & shortage on equiptment (buses). cp is getting 10 drivers from their newest class & lga depot is getting 4. the situation(shortage) is so bad at yonkers depot that buses from their bee-line divison are being used for mta bus express lines.
  22. actually shortest bus routes in queens is a tie: q47 & q49 20 min. from one end to the other. longest is probably q60 manhattan to jamaica qns. or q53 woodside to rockaway beach. i could be wrong B)
  23. don't mean to bust your bubble but lga cannot have ng buses because of the heating system in the facility. that's the main reason they were transferred to cp in the first place. it's an old facility with the old heating system that is basically a large flame with a fan that blows extremely hot air, as opposed to a heater that blows hot air with no flame, i know there's a name for the two(2) heating systems i just don't know them. lol.
  24. actually lga depot is going to get all the 93xx rts buses in the system. to make room the remaining rts buses will be going to far rock/jfk, or will be scrapped. lga received an 84xx, everyones complaining about it, lga had a bad experience with the 82xx & 83xx that came from ta/oa so they want to stick with the 93xx.
  25. what's up with all the castleton depot orions that are popping up at kingsbridge depot & casey stengel depot. the buses still have the castleton depot decals on them. are these depots in such a dire need of buses that the decals couldn't be swapped. i know west farms is short on buses they have been using laguardia depot rts buses for sometime now, but i didn't think kb or casey stengel were short on buses.
