  1. Hello, I am currently looking to work at the MTA, primarily in NYCT, LIRR, and MNRR. To tell you a bit about myself, I was born and raised in NYC and have some experience working at the Capital Management offices in 2 Broadway as an intern at different times from 2016 to 2017. I wanted to return full-time but wasn't able to due to a hiring freeze at the time. Since April 2019, I moved to Newport News, VA to work at a shipyard until I was laid off from work in February 2021; therefore I plan to move back up north and bring my shipyard experiences to industries I applied in the past. The kind of jobs I am looking for at the MTA are the typical desk jobs where you look through documents, communicating with other departments, while also doing field work. In addition, I am also looking for position that involve design using CAD software like Microstation. In addition, if there are no jobs like the ones I described at the MTA, I am open to finding jobs at SEPTA, NJ Transit, or CDOT.
  2. I don't know about MNRR, but from what I remembered, the freeze applies mostly to non-essential positions, I think.
  3. So, after over a year, the hiring freeze at the MTA is still ongoing; not just for MNRR, but probably all MTA agencies. That is the sole reason why I couldn't return to work at NYCT.
  4. Based on what I read regarding the R42's, the question I am trying to find the answer to is: what are the current status of the R42's? Are they truly retired or just reserved for contingency? Also, what's the current status with Jamaica/Coney Island R46/R160 swap? I ridden both Queens Blvd and Broadway/Astoria the past few days and I still see R46's on the R and the N/W is 90% R160's.
  5. I've seen videos of an R179 set on the from months ago, but only on the weekend shuttle. How come they didn't go via 6th Avenue and Queens Blvd?
  6. When are the best times to catch the M3's on the LIRR? Is there like a specific schedule for when they run? Also, on the New Haven Line, when are the best times to catch the remaining M2 reserved fleet?
  7. They do have a Command RTS CNG at Spring Creek though. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
  8. In this photo from March 2007, what was a New York Bus Service fishbowl doing in LGA depot? https://www.flickr.com/photos/15636971@N02/8415628384/in/photostream/
  9. In 96th Street today, I was told by a rail enthusiast that he heard from Trevor Logan that R68's are banned from Second Avenue until they get new rollsigns indicating the new route. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I saw a Q train coming out from the layup tracks north of 96th Street today. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
  10. In my opinion, since there are already existing tunnel segments up til 120th Street, it might be possible that during construction of phase 2, 106th and 116th Street stations could be opened to service first, while work is in progress for 125th since that requires constructing new tunnels using TBM's. 11. That would mean that the line will finally live up to its purpose. I can imagine that will be so popular that people will demand an extension up north. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
  12. So has anyone seen reactions from regular commuters that the Q train now goes to 96th street instead of 57th street?
  13. Hopefully, the Arnines or any museum cars will travel on this line someday, probably in summer 2017.
  14. Here's my opinion. I think phase I will relieve the overcrowding of the , , and trains coming from Brooklyn since those living there will now have a second option of going to the upper east side. I believe Lexington Avenue trains coming from the Bronx and into Brooklyn will still be overcrowded. I think once Phase 3 opens, that is when we will see a reduce of overcrowding of , , and trains from the Bronx, since Bronx riders will have a second option working downtown. Regarding phase 2, it shouldn't take that long to build since there are existing tunnels built in the 1970's. It would be a total waste not to use them, not to mention requiring a sharp downgrade from the phase I tunnels in order to go underneath the segments. I am skeptical on why I am hearing that phase 2 will cost 6 billion dollars.
  15. So just to be clear, revenue service starts on January 1st right?
  16. Well, from the looks of it, they're making good progress. It almost seems ready for the December 31st opening.
  17. Which station is that? I also noticed that the architecture and design (tiles, etc.) of those three stations are a mixture of South Ferry and Hudson Yards.
  18. Now I recently read that they can open the line on time, but bypassing one or two stations.
  19. Its already been trashed. Last time I checked, it was vandalized with graffiti.
  20. Why is it that Grand Central station on the Lexington Ave line is always jam packed? As a result, I avoid going there now when I'm heading to my internship at 2 Broadway (I work at CPM). Instead, at Queensboro, I take the N and Q to 59th Street, which is crowded, but not very much since people get off at that station. Also, why is it that the N and Q trains tend to be crowded during the morning rush?
  21. I saw two R62A's on the today, and on my to work, I was able to get on one with a RFW. This could be the last time I'll be able to view a RFW on the .
  22. About no. 13, as I mentioned, the stretch of 31st Street between the Ditmars station and the ConEd plant does have residential areas. From what I am seeing on the street view on google maps, 31st street is not very wide to support an elevated structure, unless it would be built high up. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7772006,-73.9094591,3a,75y,39.73h,83.78t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1se88Skubc_CziNYvhg6Bqyg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 I also think that east of Hazen Street on 19th Avenue, the line should begin curving slightly north and descending near that little league baseball field and into a tunnel portal at the spot near where 19th Avenue merges with 81st Street https://www.google.com/maps/place/Elmjack+Little+League+Inc/@40.7719891,-73.8903003,161a,20y,16.76h,45.04t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x89c25f7befcd4407:0xf44bce078d66cdac!2s19th+Ave,+Queens,+NY!3b1!8m2!3d40.7734735!4d-73.8913676!3m4!1s0x0000000000000000:0xb99540414e0a4035!8m2!3d40.77366!4d-73.890504 I think there should be a station at 19th avenue and 37th street since there is a small shopping district with a parking lot nearby. Also, the terminal of the extension in LGA should be similar to PATH's WTC station, a loop. As for no. 14, as Wallyhorse said, highly unlikely. The best solution would be to extend the from Main Street.
  23. Not sure if this is the right topic to post this, but I've been reading lately about the 1998 MTA plan to extend the train to Laguardia, which was killed off in 2003 due to high opposition. The plan was to extend the line first via 31st Avenue, along the Con Edison plant, then on 19th Avenue, and into the terminals. With the exception of 31st Street north of the Ditmars Blvd station, which is residential, I've noticed that the majority of 19th Avenue east of the plant is industrial, which shouldn't be a problem. I've been to that area by car before, and its mainly warehouses and a few grassland. If that plan did go forward, I doubt that the elevated structure would be like the existing ones, which do make lots of noise. My guess is that it would be very similar to the one used by the Air Train JFK or some other sound proof structure. On the topic about the train culver express, I am assuming that the Bergen Street lower level platforms cannot be restored to service?
