The R32s ran on weekends when the (C) was split between 32s and 160s

What makes the 46s better than the 32s in their final years? Higher MDBF, T/Os still able to stop the R46 smoothly vs rough stops on the 32s, quieter, etc.

The R32 was an expensive old fleet to run (MTA said this in an news article) keeping them would have created more headaches not reduce them.

The N & Q lines use like what, 15 - 20 sets of R46s on the weekends? You really think they would swap that many trainsets overnight? ... and then swap them back two days later? Sounds like an logical nightmare. They would use the B line layups at CIY before swapping 160s from Jamaica. Considering they don't use the (B) line layups in the masses on weekends perhaps the R46s condition isn't as bad as yall is making it out to be.

Nah the 46s are straight garbage

    ...and i operate them

The (W) shares with the (N) so it would make sense for it to share fleet. The (B) doesn't share its fleet with another line so it doesn't really need brand new trains vs the busier lines. the oldest R160s turn 17 within 3 weeks, Age is a factor in all of this.

The (B) most definitely shares cars. If needed, they can (and have) take a set laid up for the (B) and use it in the (N) or (Q)

I don't think they are but you can run a non cbtc train on a cbtc route. they added back wayside signals on the (L) between broadway junction and 1st ave due to the Carnarsie tube work for work trains to get to and from the work site. so its possible.

They only added 1 signal outside of Morgan Av so there's now 2 signal blocks between Broadway Junction and Lorimer St. Still a hassle, but not as much of a turdfest as it was before

That is true. I’ve seen r62a/r127/r134 garbage trains along the (7) and I don’t think that those cars are CBTC enabled. I only see CBTC signals though.

The 7 still kept its automatic signals for the most part, so conventional block signaling  can still work alongside CBTC. There's still a 2 signal block space between trains.

Following a major Earthquake in Brooklyn, the whole Myrtle Avenue elevated has collapsed onto the street below, and rebuilding will take at least a year.

What do you do with the (M)?

Run the same pattern that's running now

Does anyone know what that colored piece is under the car number? For example on the R62 under the number plate it has a red piece under it and I see it on other cars. Is there like a way of understanding what they mean?

They used to signify what yard the car belonged to, but today they're irrelevant.

Green: Uniport/180 st for the (5)

    Yellow: Westchester for the (6)

Red: 240 St for the (1)

    Blue: Livonia for the (3)

    Orange: Jerome for the (4)

    Purple: Corona for the (7)

Black: 239 St for the (2)

It's worth noting once again that this is not tied to SBS explicitly. Bee-Line and NICE buses do this on all their routes, the latter mandating it (not allowing pax to exit without driver OK).

I wasn' talking about bee-line or NICE bus...

Besides, all of bee-line buses have back doors that are automatically driver controlled (that's how they were spec'd)

This right here is supposedly what MTA wants to be the end result to be. See what you guys need to realize and understand its not about whether a Depot can handle the lines or not, it's about what's saves the company money. MTA will pack a Depot full of buses and lines knowing they can't handle it, if it would save them money. I work out of LaGuardia and when the Q53 first came back 1 year ago. We were struggling just to make service, but we had to learn and adapt as will the other Depots. Here at LaGuardia Depot we have twenty two lines and now articulated buses we don't have enough space. Half of our fleet is parked on the street. Same with Jamacia, Baisley, what used to be the 126th Street Depot, Gun Hill, Ulmer Park, but it doesn't matter we still have to run the service. We have to make it work. They are trying to save money by reducing deadhead times and in service time. Understand this is not about what Depot are best suited for the service this is strictly about saving money.

Seems like you guys have a slight favoriism with the artics. You'd hardly see an artic out in the street overnight (it's happened, but rarely) but  but have no problem with throwing anything else out there, even the LGA Link buses lol

How exactly do the doors work when a bus is in SBS mode?

I thought when the B/O makes a stop and opens the doors, all 2 or 3 doors open automatically.

I was on a Q53 today where the B/O only opened the front door at one stop because of an obstruction.

    To further explain...

There is an "SBS mode" on the buses, but depending on the bus, it's actually labeled as such.

A simpler definition would be rear door mode. I'l break it down:

    Passenger controlled

The regular way the back doors are controlled. Once the driver turns the door handle to rear, the back door(s) unlock and the passenger pushes the door open themselves. Usually they would slam back closed (Novas not included) unless someone pushed the tape/bar/strip in which they would stay open until the driver puts the handle back to close.

    Driver controlled (SBS mode)

In this mode, once the driver turns the handle to rear, the back doors (the middle door on the artics count as a back door lol) open automatically and stay open until the handle gets put back to closed. Depending on the bus, it' called something different (touch tape bypass on the RTS, SBS mode on the Novas, etc), but it's all the same thing. Buses doing SBS routes (and to a lesser extent shuttle buses) are supposed to have their buses like this.

All it takes is a simple flip of a switch on the driver's panel. In your case, the driver turned the door handle to where the front doors would only open.

But like B35 said, that still doesn' stop people from yelling at the backdoors to open lol

But...to which (L) station should it connect? I'm mostly concerned about having an (F) connection at Second Avenue—a very crucial transfer.

Is there really a problem with using the "Shallow Chrystie Option"? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just use the existing tunnels and have cross-platform transfers at Grand Street?

3 Avenue. The station footprint stretches from Third Ave to Second Ave, whereas the footprint of the 1 Avenue station is between First Ave and Avenue A. In regards to the connection with the (F), I think that was always included since the line would literally run below the 2 Avenue (F) line station.

The problem with a shallow Chrystie option is that it's more disruptive to the neighborhood than the deep option. Of course, when the deep option takes forever, like it did with the first segment of the Second Ave line, the benefits negate themselves.

There will be a connection for the (F) at Houston St, as it will be the southern terminal for Phase 3 and the debut of the actual (T)

However, instead of using the pre-existing station she'l above the (F) platform, it'll run below the station instead.

That’s correct, which means that it’s now more of an advanced warning compared to a door-closing chime. I do wonder if this extra 2 seconds of lag time is an issue, though.

With the way the announcements seem more dragged out along with it, it could be down the line

Based on the videos that I've seen on the forums and YouTube... It seem that the door chime on the R179 are a bit different than whats on the R160s. Correct me if I am wrong, but the door chime sounds very similar, if not the same, to the door chime that is on the R142?

Sounds the same to me, but for some reason they changed it to play BEFORE the doors closed compared to it playing while the doors are closing
