  1. What bus coverage is required for the (A)(D) closures? Just use the (1)(4) or other local bus routes that run in the area instead.

Queens Blvd??? That will be a nightmare!

For the (D), the Bx1 and Bx2 bus doesn't run overnight (from 1-4AM), so Shuttle Busses would be in place during FASTRACK.

For the (A), the M4, Bx7 and M100 doesn't run overnight (from 1-4AM), so Shuttle Busses would be in place during FASTRACK.

And QBL would be a nightmare, but I guess busses would be out in full effect.

  2. NY1 has a watered-down approach and less technical:

"The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says shutting lines down overnight for track work has proven to be safer and more efficient, and it is moving the Fastrack repairs program uptown and outside of Manhattan in 2013.

Planned work includes repairs to the A line in Washington Heights and the D line along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx.

There are also plans for work on E, F, M, R, Q and N lines in various parts of Queens and Brooklyn."

  4. Engadget via FierceWireless - "Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo shattered many a hopes and dreams today speaking at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference. During his address, Shammo indicated that customers who have been grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan may soon find themselves pushed into tiered territory, with the debut of the carrier's shared data plans. "Everyone will be on data share," Shammo said, clarifying that, "a lot of our 3G base is on unlimited... [and] when they migrate off 3G they will have to go to data share." Obviously, with many customers clinging desperately to their truly unlimited usage in the shift to LTE, such a move would ruffle more than a few feathers. It's not clear if this will affect customers who have already made the leap to LTE devices or if it will be limited to customers migrating from 3G phones after a particular cut off date. We've reached out to Verizon for comment, but so far Big Red is keeping mum. We'll just have to take Shammo at his word for now. We hope you like data caps. To hear the comments in full hit up the source link.

Update: We just finished listening through the entire webcast (we're still waiting for the transcript) and found the quote that is going to make most customers shake their fists in anger:

"LTE is our anchor point for data share. So, as you come through an upgrade cycle and you upgrade in the future, you will have to go on to the data share plan. And moving away from, if you will, the unlimited world and moving everyone into a tiered structure data share plan."

Doesn't get much clearer than that, but we're still hoping Verizon will come back and say Shammo was speaking out of turn... fingers crossed."

  5. Seeing that in Line colors Blue = Harlem , Red = NH, Green = Hudson..

I wonder if they ever thought of a Green coloring for its EMUs on Hudson?

Perhaps, but it wouldn't be cost efficient, and basically it's like saying that EMU is locked to that line. I think the Blue is good enough and cost efficient. Perhaps, FRA rules might also come in but I am not 100% sure about that...

Anyways, I think we should go back to discussing the M8's and the Connecticut Lines.

  6. Colors:

    Blue - East of Hudson (Hudson/Harlem Line(s)).

    Red - Connecticut (New Haven/New Canaan Line(s))

*Diesel Service North of Croton-Harmon on Hudson, SouthEast on Harlem, Danbury Branch and Waterbury Branch in Connecticut (M# series cannot go on those lines...

  7. I can totally see NICE personnel retorting with the fact that the (MTA) doesn't run anything out there any longer, so their rules are no longer valid.

    Other than half the NGs.

    And the MVMs at Hempstead.

    And the fareboxes.

And the data readers needed for the fareboxes to read MetroCards.

Well, Hempstead Transit Center in general is owned by the (MTA) except the streets out of the gates. Mitchel Field Bus Depot and the half of the Orion VII's, as well as the miscellany equipment that makes MetroCard usage possible. So the (MTA) Rules apply to all the facilities mentioned as well as LIRR Stations and 165th St. Bus Term.

  8. And that is worse than the (MTA) cuts. If only the routes that go to the NYC subway remain, vast areas of the county will be left without any bus service at all. It'll make Suffolk Transit look NICE. The message Mangano is sending is simple, if you rely on the bus, get a car, walk, or take a cab, because the county doesn't give a damn about you. I've been noticing more cabs around the county, I wonder if Dollar Vans are next? At least they're cheaper than a cab.

And look, there is a Cabbie on the board, so at the end Mangano is trying to get people away from the bus and into the cab, purely ridiculous and cabs and cars are so not a Green form of transportation. It is going to look worse than the (MTA) cuts at the end, as much as I hate saying it, from the looks of the April-08th moves, it's gonna be and bound to be worse. Let's just hope June's service arrangements bring some positiveness but I don't see it...

And by the way I spoke with a bus operator today who was training someone, he drives the n6 and told me that the situation "could explode at any moment". He said he's been on the n6x and had to drive past HUNDREDS of people waiting at bus stops in Elmont and Franklin Square. And when he's stopped at a light people start yelling and banging on the bus door to get on. But he cant pick them up. Thats gotta be torture.

I gotta head down there myself and document the chaos. I'm sure eventually those pax will get fed up and discover the LIRR is only a mile or two walk north.

It's not good down there, I really think Veolia didn't think about the n6's service, and honestly I don't think Veolia's employees ever went on the bus before the service changes, the n6L could've been enhanced to serve major stops and transfer points rather than the n6X come in and replace it.

  9. Well, by White you mean not wrapped but striped with no ads?

N32 I was on earlier almost got into an accident after some bro in an Infiniti G35 makes a u-turn with the NG I was on only 4 feet away... the B/O caught it just in time. It turned out that bro was on his phone...

How people blame the bus driver all the time, no the bus driver is the professional one, the regular car drivers don't know sh!t!!

  10. But Veolia has to care because their profit is based on ridership. Yes, they have a guarantee. But if ridership falls, the death spiral of cutting routes to save money begins. I thought Veolia was hired because the MTA was on the death spiral route.

What they are doing is minding ridership later, cuts first, for profit or not. Veolia is basically doing stuff worse than the (MTA), (MTA) just cut the routes that see low ridership, Veolia is trying to get ridership down across the County and what I am seeing is only the n4, n6, n20, n22, n24, n31 merged with n32 and n33 routes left after all settle if Veolia stays and Mangano stays. Basically as we know it and said it, only the routes with decent amounts of ridership connecting to the NYC Subway are here to stay. Perhaps NICE won't even need a new order of busses after the 1500's/1600's are gone.

  11. I'm so glad I don't have to take the n27 anymore, given this BS. I really think those two routes should never have been touched. I honestly have to agree (kinda) with PinePower that the 23 and 27 shouldn't have been changed. I mean, for god sakes, before these changes, I took a 6:45 pm bus on a SATURDAY out of Roosevelt Field to Glen Cove to get the N20 and it was full out of Roosevelt Field. That's insane. I've taken the N23 during the day now after the changes and they're empty. People are even asking to go to Mineola. I'm still confused at who the heck thought of this setup and then who agreed that it would work. I could see so many more people taking the LIRR now.

I have to say the same, the n23 empties out at Roosevelt Field Mall basically and I've literally seen people talk on the phone complaining about the n21/n23/n27 changes, and quite few of them, and some of them go on cabs and some are also going on other cars. It is nuts what NICE did to these three routes. It doesn't necessarily inconveniences me, but I'm basically forced to skip Flushing because I cannot do the n27/20 and n27/21 connections now. And heck I don't want to take the n23.
