  1. Yesterday I saw 1007 near the sports fields in Massapequa on the sides streets off Sunrise HWY near Sunrise Mall, the destination sign said "training bus." Because of the location I'd say they were probably learning the n19. An hour or two later I saw 16xx that read out of service on the destination sign in Lindenhurst or West Babylon on Montauk HWY. This bus caught my attention because it was moving very slow, I look at it and could see an instructor next to the driver (both wearing safety vests). Like the first bus the second had to be learning the n19 because there are no other NICE routes there, unless NICE is having new employees learn SCT routes (insert evil laugh).
  2. Car's have license plates so a ticket can be mailed to the registered owner. What are they going to do with a picture of the cheat? How would they find him? Email the picture to a cop to pull over the bus? Really? Do I even have to point out the flaws in that? Out of curiosity, where did you come up with the figure of $500 as a ticket for fare evasion? I got a $80 red light ticket ($50.00 fine + $30.00 "driver responsibility fee ).... In all fairness (no pun intended), someone can die from someone running a red light, someone is not going to die by someone paying their bus fare.
  3. I agree 100% with the driver... Exactly. If it were me I wouldn't take the chance of getting, beat, stabbed, slashed, etc to collect someone else $2 and change! I think you both know cops aren't going to respond to fare evasion in Nassau, Suffolk, or Queens! Maybe they could have special stings, have cops on the bus every once and a while. Or maybe the county can contract out a private company to hand out "notices of liability" like they do with red light tickets. They wouldn't be real cops so they wouldn't be real tickets so there's no real enforcement besides being able to send it to a collection agency. These people would probably get shit on harder than meter maids and the county would probably see higher costs in workers comp than revenue from the program because these people would probably get their ass kicked from day one and I'm sure one would get stabbed within a year.
  4. I assume you mean transit buses? School buses are not allowed to turn right on red anywhere in New York State because NYS doesn't allow it anywhere in the state. Suffolk County Transit (On Long Island) makes right on red because there is no law preventing all buses on Long Island from doing so. About a year ago I noticed the stickers and new no right on red policy on NICE, other companies do this, it's a safety feature. If a NICE bus is hit while turning on a red not only could people be hurt but NICE is liable fir the accident (it goes without saying but judging by the last two pages I read of this thread it needs to be explained that ANYONE turning right on red is automatically at fault if they are hit by anyone with the green). Right on red is not by any non emergency vehicle in the boroughs of NYC unless a sign is present allowing it. These are just the laws and there ARE exceptions to every rule.
  5. Google Brettnyc, he used to have a website and youtube channel... He can't fix the n20 because he doesn't work for... I like to watch all these medical drama's on tv but that doesn't mean I have the skills to perform surgery. Right, one thing we've learned that any change (even for the better) confuses the hell out of the average NICE rider and refuse to use it... NICE is very active in social media but if you think about the average rider is clueless when it comes to social media and to them NICE seems very silent and just springs changes they are not expecting on them.
  6. I agree with you that a bus shouldn't leave early, but even that's sticky because maybe the bus is leaving one point early because it will hit heavy traffic at another point trying to the bus from being too late into it's final stop as these are usually RR stations and major transfer points. You want buses that are on time to wait for late buses? That will only;y cause later buses, more missed connections and further bring down the system. On a side note I've been on the S1 and seen the driver signal it's connections that it has people wanting to transfer and have seen the driver of N70somethine not give a shit, just drive off to keep people waiting for 45 minutes in the rain, snow, heat, and frigid weather... This had been a problem with NICE & MTA LIB because SOME drivers are simply a**holes and don't care about less fortunate than them. They think the system is there to give them a paycheck not to give the community a ride.
  7. Are transfer announcements really necessary in this day and age with computers, smartphones, google maps, and other routing software telling you exactly where to get off the bus to make a transfer? I think it would be nice on SCT because they are so far behind the times and you cannot plan a trip on google.
  8. Sure enough, "Nassau Inter-County Express / NICE Bus Original delivery of New Flyer buses was original scheduled for the end of 2015 and a second delivery in 2016. New Flyer is running ahead of schedule. We received 16 Foothill buses that will be in service for the next 9-12 months." Good for New Flyer, that's one hell of a leap!
  9. Where did you hear August? More like "early 2016." http://nicebus.com/About-NICE/News-and-Events.aspx
  10. I took a little ride for fun last week and were surprised by the new automated announcements (at very times) please hold onto the hand rails & for schedule information call 1-8xx-xxxx or nicebus.com... Yea, OTB because of community opposition because of fear of traffic and unsavory individuals loitering. There certainly isn't traffic or unsavory individuals loitering around the area now. NIMBY is one of Long Island's biggest problems from "casinos" to fast food, "OMG,it'll create traffic." Really? Long Island has nothing but traffic and will continue to have nothing because of these people.
  11. I saw Foothill 1250 being towed on Sunrise today (still in foot hill livery)....
  12. It's public bus transportation how excels t do you expect it to be? Flying is terrible, it gets worse and worse year after year and I pay a hell of a lot more for a ticket on Delta or US Air. And back in the day flying was considered glamorous.... Needy Idiots Critisizing Everything is a proper description of the average NICE rider...
  13. Had the morning free, headed to Freeport in hopes of seeing/riding an ex foot hill (was hoping for a nice long ride to Jamaica. No such luck, didn't see one so I headed home. Has anyone seen this on one run more than any in particular? LDL is it just random? I figured it be a good bus (with the suburban seating) for the n4X...
  14. Here is the press release for those interested. If you want yo bash something know the facts, don't just parrot what you hear the idiots here say. Transdev/NICE inherited buses that were destroyed & neglected by the MTA. The proof us that over half of the LIB fleet didn't lass a simple DOT test during the conversion. NICE USES what they have, Orion is shit, anyway, on top of that NICE has to deal with buses MTA LIB destroyed!
  15. I also wish the foothill buses were painted in the new NICE scheme but I understand why they only did the "Nassau" stripe to save money on a bus that will be in service for 2 years. All new buses will be in the NICE livery, just as the upper 1800's were delivered painted in NICE livery..,
  16. They must be sending a lot of these buses through to get re painted or I have a magnet for these things and see one whenever I'm near the 109/Sunrise interchange. This is foothill body # F1311 on it's way to go get painted Saturday at about 11:30am. I assume this will be NICE body # 1021 considering 1021 is written in the window...
  17. From the News12 app: Cops: 8 people taken to hospital after bus, truck crash February 18, 2015 BY ELLEN YAN At least eight people were taken to the hospital, including one by helicopter, after a three-vehicle crash that included a pickup truck and a Suffolk County Transit bus Wednesday in Medford, Suffolk police and bus officials said. The crash occurred at Station Road near Sills Road / Route 101 at 11:35 a.m., police said. The pickup truck was going north on Station Road when it ran a red light and slammed into the 7B Patchogue-Bellport bus, which was headed south on Sills, said Philip Berdolt, deputy commissioner of the Suffolk County public works department, which runs the transit bus system. "It T-boned the bus," he said. The pickup truck took the brunt of the crash, with the front end and passenger side mangled. A passenger in the pickup was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital but the extent of that person's injuries was not immediately clear, Berdolt said. The drivers of the pickup truck and the bus, and five passengers were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries, police said. Berdolt said the only passengers were a mother and four children, and that the driver had bumps and bruises. A hospital spokeswoman said all were released. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured, police said. The intersection was shut down but reopened about 3:20 p.m. Other details were not immediately available as county officials and Fifth Precinct detectives continued gathering information Wednesday afternoon. With John Valenti Bus # 1075...
  18. Again, it's now the Transdev Internet Defense Fund. You've really got to start reading those press releases, you make yourself look foolish.
  19. I thank every political in NY who likes having their ass kissed, are we done?
  20. Will the beers cost as much as the airlines? Sounds like a good funding opportunity for NICE. lol They've already help up, what, 10-12 years? Then again I don't know what type of ridership foothill had or if those seats had to be repaired/replaced? You either can't put a sentence together or don't know whet your talking about, probably both. First, it's not like NICE is some company that can't "get their act together" they do what they can with what they are given (string budget, crappy equipment). Next, your sentence suggests THEY (NICE) let the walk away. NICE/Veolia/Transdev had nothing to do with the leaving, depending on who you ask the walked away because Nassau wouldn't pay "their fair share" or Nassaw gave the their walking papers over the a crazy amount of money fir little in return or the would reduce LIB service to a "skeleton system" (the 's words). Next, I don't think any person in the DECISION to bring in NICE regrets it, the County is paying a lot less than the , the full system is pretty much in tact, and Veolia/Transdev has proven they can do more per dollar (and with less money) than the can. ....and how quickly you forget that service would be worse with the MTA back. I wish the MTA would come back so I could sit here and laugh at all that forgot too quickly that the MTA is not the answer! What cab company does he own? I. Mean this stuff goes on everywhere. One of the airports for Chicago is in a town outside of Chicago where the mayor will only allow one company to operate cab service. So yea, only ONE company is allowed to pick up at O'haire, the brother in law of the Mayor happens to own that cab company. Besides proper funding and new buses?
  21. You can thank Steve Bellone for Sunday SCT service NOT the LIBRU.... You guys are unbelievable!
  22. It's just how the buses came, I wouldn't read anything else into it.
  23. They're not painting a custom car, the name of the game is doing it cheap, and I think they did a great job. I'm sure the signs will take time to program. The buses are doing what they intended, helping filling the gap, I think riders would be glad to have that bus on the route instead of having to wait in the cold for the next one.
  24. Cali plates off , temp tag in the window like the new New Flyers, these new plates are hard to get... Btw while on the subject I HATE the new plates on the buses. County of Nassau on the left and Nassau (the county on the bottom of the plate similar to how Florida puts the county on the bottom. I was hoping NICE or Nassau Inter County Express on the left side of the plate.
