  1. Not to pile on, but that cost money that the agency isn't willing to spend. An oddball fleet that requires every even number car marker to be altered for 7 car trains that are shorter than the 60 foot cars (A 480 ft R160 vs. your 469 ft train).

The (MTA) has done it in the past for car orders like the R44/46 and 68/A, and it's not like millions of dollars are going to be spent to make less than 600 signs for stations that are the size of a mousepad. Some even exist in some stations. I've seen 4, 6, 8, 9 and 10 car markers on the 8 Ave line (A)(C)(E).

  2. Would the MTA really want to run 7-car trains of 67-footers (7*67=469 ft)? And modifications cost $$$, you know.

Well it won't cost money if they build them like that :( and yes they would, more space and more seats for customers = less complaining.

  3. All this talk of 60 or 75 footers, isn't there a small possiblity that the R179's could be 67 footers? They can be used on the (J)(M)(Z) and (L) with special modification. If I remember correctly, BMT Standards were 67 Ft., but they had special traction motors and trucks to allow them pass through the curves of the Myrtle/Canarsie lines.

  4. Lol what's wrong with Bombardier?

Nothing really, I think everyone wants it to go to Kawasaki because one of there plants is in Yonkers, meaning more jobs and money for the state and they can be delivered faster. Although they still construct body shells in different places, R160 shells were made in Brazil.

  5. If your on a budget, get a D3000. It's only 70 dollars more. I was gonna get the D5000 but it was sold out everywhere in the Bronx and online it was still $700+. I've tested out Sony's cheap cameras (a230, a380) and the way they handle contrast, it's looks like it came out of a phone. The color on the other hand is sup-par with Nikon.

  6. The IRT Main can NOT handle a 60 foot car anywhere underground. The (4)(1)(7) and (5) Dyer Avenue can theoretically operate a 60 foot car outside. Platforms shaved back of coruse.

Shit....The Dyer Avenue Line can handle Shoreliner cars and Genesis's if properly converted.

God I wish you would've not said that, I know a certain individual that is going to foam because of that statement.

I heard before that a R160 could run on the express track to a certain station after Queensboro Plaza, without any radical modifications.
