  1. Folks, a piece of advise. It is never good when (hypothetically) you are YX and the Line Superintendent (who was a Schoolcar Instructor), the Yard TSS, and the Yard Dispatcher see you not only blow a STOP sign at the crosswalk, but not even slow down. And it really pisses off said Line Superintendent when you try to make excuses, saying you were rushed. This is all hypothetical, of course.
  2. Crew Room Lawyer (def) Usually the loudest person in the Crew Room (or on the Forums), a person who hates their job, who gets in trouble for doing things they aren't supposed to, and passes on bad advice to rookies. To the new people coming down here, some advice, as I was in your shoes once before, and have never forgotten that: Avoid the Crew Room Lawyers. If you have questions about things, find the people who actually know what they're talking about (like @RTOMan). And as I tell all the rookies I come across, if you see me in passing and need to pick my brain about something, feel free to do so. I don't bite (usually).
  3. And that was in the same week of the other major thing. Those were fun reports to read and assist with... I guess we can talk about work in here, right?
  4. ...and people on the Platform still manage to do stupid shit and get into even more trouble. In the grand scheme of things, it is a simple job. Show up. Have your equipment. Be courteous. Do what you're supposed to do. The cover-up is worse than the crime.
  5. …and that’s how you end up at 2 Broadway. Earplugs good. Earbuds bad.
  6. A little over 10 years ago, I started this thread when I started Schoolcar. Look at where I am now, as well as my classmates. To those waiting, have patience. It will come. Don't be afraid to ask the questions. It may save your job one day. Happy Anniversary TA-18, TA-19, TB-28 and my class, TB-29. Good job.
  7. Obviously you need to. Also, being a student does NOT excuse you from not doing the right thing.
  8. Obviously you need to. Also, being a student does NOT excuse you from not doing the right thing.
  9. The investigation is ongoing. That's all you need to know.
  10. Dawwh, thanks guys. You're gonna make me blush.
  11. Also.... INSPECT YOUR TRAIN PROPERLY!!!! You are taught a certain way in Schoolcar. Stick to it. Don't take shortcuts. If you have an incident and I'm the one investigating, I will know that you took a shortcut, and I will know that you are lying.
  12. Just avoid the Crew Room Lawyers. They usually have no clue what they are talking about, and are the ones who are getting into trouble.
  13. Congratulations to all the newly hired or ones starting soon. I'll see you out there, preferably in a positive situation. If you see me out there and want to pick my brain, feel free to pull me aside. We were all new down here, and it pisses me off when some employees forget that. Not to toot my own horn, but if you want a hint of what you're about to expect, peruse this:
  14. That's because it's a badge of honour to tag a NYC Subway car. The Eurotrash also come over to bomb the cars and then post it on social media.
  15. 3 months training for the IRT, 5 months for the B Division (if they cut the YX program). Do you get to pick your division? It depends on Transit's needs. If you get to pick, it starts by list number and works downward. As for the YX program, it's a joke. It was not done the way it was intended, and the students don't learn properly. See you new guys out there soon. Please don't make me write reports.
  16. I keep my head on a swivel, and that's what I tell my people to do. That's all I can say on here without jeopardizing anything.
  17. I applied in April, interviewed in June, promoted in September.
  18. Welcome aboard. Go with Business Casual, with footwear that is good for the roadbed. I wear a shirt and tie, and my work boots.
  19. As a former Schoolcar Instructor, What @RTOMan says. Don't worry about learning the system until you start down here.
  20. The crime is going up. It is a fact. Take it from someone who listens to the 6-Wire for at least 8 hours a day when I'm at work. There is a lot of it that doesn't get reported. We are averaging at least 1 employee assault EVERY DAY.
  21. I'm in that picture. Guess which one is me. By the time I got out of there, the snow drifts were halfway up my thighs. And I'm 6'2".
