  1. Whenever I see the R-32 consist on the in the afternoons, it's always heading to Lefferts Boulevard. Does anyone know if they ever send it to Mott Avenue or Beach 116th Street during PM rush hours?
  2. Does anyone know why artics have been showing up on the Bx7? I rode one on that line today and was quite surprised.

  4. Just because that's the way it is doesn't mean that's the way it should be.
  5. Yes, but I've heard from multiple sources that trains along that stretch used to hit 45-48 back in the day. So yeah, compared to thirty years ago when we had graffiti-covered trains that were supposedly on their last legs, the current speeds are rather low, which is just sad. Speed should be balanced with safety, but the MTA has tipped the scale far too much in favor of 'safety' in the past twenty years.
  6. Does anyone know what justification is used by the TA to keep the CPW express slow between 59th and 125th Street? Southbound is slower than northbound for the most part. I know there's a major switch just south of 81st Street and there once was a derailment just north of the same station, but otherwise, I don't see the point of the express dragging it's wheels for sixty-six uninterrupted blocks. The run seemed faster a couple of years ago, but now it's just become so damn slow.
  7. That sort of decision is not up to the dispatcher; the choice belongs to his superiors.
  8. They should just keep the R-32s on the / and put all the R-42s on the . Four 10-car trains that can be used as rush hour put-ins with 10 spares for rotation, or alternatively, five ten-car trains. On a side note, it would probably be in the MTA's best interest to SMS the R-42s.
  9. Yet both the R32 and R160 are 60-foot cars. How could the cab window possibly not match up with the board?
  10. I for one feel that it would be good if they used the SAS to revive the Nassau Street Line. A train going through Bowery would probably be more than enough to bring that station back from decades of stagnation.
  11. Does anyone know why the R32s on the Eastern Division are stopping at the 5-3 R42 C/R position? It seems ridiculous considering that the R32s have door controls in the A cabs. Why can't they just stop at the R160 boards?
  12. Still though, he has a point: those mothballed cars shouldn't be scrapped so indiscriminately. And the is known for making poor decisions, especially when it comes to prematurely scrapping cars. If the service cuts hadn't happened, we'd be experiencing a major car shortage right now. We're lucky enough that the current shortage is not messing things up, so why exacerbate the problem by scrapping available equipment? If they were able to bring back the two R-46s that were flooded at 207th Street station during Sandy, then surely they can bring back a handful of R-42s that have been sitting idle. What do you think the whole point of mothballing is?
  13. ...No matter what the does, it seems they always end up hitting a brick wall. They really must be kicking themselves right now for sparing only 272 of the old cars. Any chance of them reactivating the 16 R-42s stored at 207th?
  14. That rust was mostly surface rust. If anything, it was the R-40s that were falling apart- panels swinging open, giant holes of corrosion penetrating the roof, and so on.
  15. Art is right. The R-38s hadn't had SMS in quite some time. They weren't unsafe. If they had had SMS in 2006 instead of the R-32s, we'd probably be seeing R-38s on the right now. On a side note, it sure was fun to be riding the 8th Avenue Line back then. At one point, the was running R-32, R-38s, R-40s, and R-42s.... all at the same time.
  16. I for one certainly don't see why they should be stopping at the R-42 positions. Which brings up a good question- what is happening to the R-42s?
  17. Oh, I've heard the stories about the R-10s LOL. When I was living in Queens, I knew a guy who used to do Bedford Park to Beach 116th on the . He hated it and I can't blame him, especially after he told me there was one day in July where it just poured all day. That was one C/R who was very glad to see the R-10s go....
  18. Damn. I can understand the B cab lacking a pressure gauge, but the lack of a seat is just harsh. It's bad enough as it is from what I've heard.
  19. I don't know how the B-cabs of the R32s could possibly lack the proper controls for operation on ten-car routes, but I've been around long enough to know that the is not always consistent in its decision-making, which is why the past five years have seen a whirlwind of car transfers and split-second actions such as retiring the R44s in place of their older brethren. I normally wouldn't dispute the word of a TA employee, but another TA employee has just called the prediction into doubt. Besides, I once knew an operator who claimed that the R42s were going to the , so yeah.
  20. Never thought I'd see the day. In other words, for the first time in almost 40 years, R-32s are running again on the . [searches frantically for Metrocard]
  21. Looking over the last few pages, I can see that the foam will truly be unprecedented once those units start running on the and . I'm going to need my umbrella and some popcorn for this one....
  22. I believe he might be talking about the 14 mothballed R-42s at 207th Street Yard. In any case, I wouldn't expect to see those cars make a comeback anytime soon, unless there was a sudden shortage in current equipment or some other sort of emergency.
  23. Lately I've been wondering- did the MTA ever consider constructing a station at 79th Street? Having gone to middle school in that area, I've always found it surprising that they never considered putting a stop at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 79th Street.
  24. Personally, I find it hard to believe that NYCT would just go and scrap sixteen R-46s, especially considering that they are a bit strained fleet-wise as it is. But then again, TwoTimer and INDman usually know what they're talking about, so those cars are probably done for.
