  1. While the track chaining is backwards on the East, Parsons-Archer is officially North terminal for the J and Z. Metropolitan is always the M’s south terminal. the two run as a “Wrong Way Concurrency”. I would like to go on record I prefer to treat the M as a circle line and refer to its directions as “Clockwise” and “Counter-Clockwise”
  2. No. Because I heard it live over the radio as someone got caught doing that and got yelled at. The Q was operating on 6th Avenue as part of GO and someone rolled the lead sign to an orange Q. 34 Master was having none of it.
  3. Okay… when you’re boring though Manhattan Schist… it is really not economical to build a subway tunnel with a basement and an attic.
  4. …because the 7 was still running… why are we having to run extra service for a service that is still ready and raring to go?
  5. Basically the problem is, while dreaming and asking “what if” are perfectly fine… people tend to act like all these dreams and what if’s are practical and then get offended when we even so much as poke one hole in their logic. like me having to explain multiple times why they can’t just move the B to be based at Concourse yard. There are almost always details that are ether ignored or forgotten or just not understood. Another example, expanding the trains on the J, L and M. A certain someone always insists we just need to extend the platforms, ignoring that things like yard storage tracks and the barn at East New York Yard are the actual restrictions on how long those trains are.
  6. you want track department scampering around on an el in the dark? yeah, no, not happening,.. That is an easy ticket to a one way lession in the laws of gravity.
  7. I would be more inclined to belife one of two things. 1: they remove a B car from four different units and transfer it over to a different 4 car unit to make 5 car units, the remaining 3 cars become shuttle trains 2: they go the route of the R262 and order dedicated shuttle trains in the R68 replacement order.
  8. I would not have the 5 on that list since its trains can enter and exit service at multiple locations other than Dyre Ave. 238, Gun Hill, East 180th, New Lots, Utica…
  9. it's not too far off. The R143 and R160s are a fully custom design. The R179s are Bombardier "Movia" cars beaten with a sledgehammer until they made a close approximation of their older siblings.
  10. The public time tables can give you a pretty good hint (the first through trains in each direction leave within 10 minutes of each other) but there are about a dozen M trains that put in at Forest Hills, ether from being laid up in Jamaica Yard or on the QB express tracks.
  11. Provide service towards Metropolitan for passengers along the Myrtle Ave El who would otherwise have to wait for the first through train from Forest Hills to come around the long way.
  12. ... you do know that not all vent grates belong to the subway, right? Those are Con Ed underground transformer vents. Heres what to look for. Most, if not all subway vents are sealed on the surface... because we can access them from beneath, in the tunnels if we had to. also, for the most part, we have no reason to go in there except to clean them out. They're for air circulation only. Con Ed vents, on the other hand, have hatches built into them so workers can climb down inside, because there is hardware down there that needs maintaining. Or else this can happen
  13. waste of money and effort that would get them, what, maybe another year or two out of the thing, with the 211S on it's way.
  14. At what point in my post did I use the word “signals”… I did not. I said “Yard tracks, Shop Tracks, and Switch placement” ENY barn is not long enough to handle a 600’ train. the yard tracks at ENY and Fresh Pond are not long enough to hold a 600’ train and only maybe four or five yard tracks at Canarsie could take 10 cars. The rest are not long enough.
  15. that sound you're hearing is 34 Master having a coronary and aneurism at the same time... A, C, E AND D all sharing B3 B4 from 59 to 42nd? A, C, E and F all sharing B1 B2 at West 4th?
  16. The entire point is to isolate manufacturing issues that might have happened and fix the cars in the factory before they leave. Do you want to waste valuable work space in the shops to fix issues on multiple cars or do you want to have the factory workers do it?
  17. because platforms aren't the only issue. Yard tracks... shop tracks... switch placement. the old East just isn't designed for 600' trains at all. go on google Earth, look at East New York Yard and tell me how we're going to fit 10 car trains in any of that?
  18. basically, yes. as many people as possible need to be up to speed on the new cars.
  19. All I know is my number skyrocketed over 550 places. went from the 37XX (per the last pick's results sheets) to 31XX (per the insight app) They still have the seniority roster on TENS from over a year ago for some damn reason.
  20. that's a GO due to the L being out. exception, not the rule
  21. There are three trains on property right now. The single 211A prototype and the two 211T prototypes. So 30 cars all together in three trains the 211A will hopefully begin it’s 30 day test in the next few weeks. the 211Ts will not see customer service until the end of the year.
  22. If I've told you once, I've told you a million times that is not practical.
