  1. That’s a good point. I guess you’d only get a paper receipt for the new cards. Right, They should be able to limit it to signed in accounts for the time being.
  2. Exactly, you get that same email if you add value from an OMNY machine.
  3. I just realized they also email receipts to those with OMNY accounts when value is added to a card.
  4. For Belmont Stakes, they had conductors punching tickets as people exited or returned to the Belmont Park Station.

  6. I went to an OMNY Vending machine, if you purchase a card and add the $1 minimum, the total will be $2. The machines are straight forward to use. I didn’t purchase a backup card yet, but I added value to my card. Once you select add value to card, you tap the OMNY Card once for your card info to display, select how you’re going to pay, and once you add cash or use your credit card it’s done. You don’t have to tap the OMNY Card again. The receipts are longer than the ones from MVMs.
  7. Yeah, My first card cracked somehow and became useless. So a backup may make sense.
  8. How about to Jamaica Center and Shuttle buses between Jamaica Center and Jamaica Bus Terminal where people can connect to/from their bus? That would greatly reduce resources needed. (Or, Jamaica Center up to Parsons Blvd , 169th, 179th.) They could save money by allowing free transfers to the Q6, Q8, Q9, Q41, Q44, etc and maybe not even need shuttle buses.
  9. Did they say why they’re getting rid of the “S” route prefixes?
  10. I feel both of your pain as I had to deal with the first phase of CBTC installation on the QBL, definitely torture. Sometimes missing my bus as well.
  11. I checked out the AirTrain in Jamaica. The turnstiles with OMNY are always open (as opposed to the metro card turnstiles which close after each person), and they have helpers observing/helping. Quite a few riders are tapping away already.
  12. I took the “fare free” Q4 recently, the B/Os only did front door boarding for some reason.
  13. The chart in the article makes it more clear why they focused on the 7 day cap first, and possibly the 30 day cap next.
  14. I’m just pointing out that routing matters and connections help, because the Q112 keeps being used as a reference and the routing sucks. Example. N22 and N24 both go between Jamaica and Roosevelt Field. N22 gets more usage because it’s faster, less traffic signals , less idle time. The 57 will be more direct and connect to LIRR/Air Train/ Etc. We’ll see how they address Liberty Ave traffic.
  15. Has there been any early feedback on how the free routes are doing?
  16. I’m not saying that people are going to abandon the in droves, but there will be riders using the bus for the connection the . It’s about choices. Think about it this way, If I’m at Farmers and Linden. I can take the Q3 to the , Q4 to the or Q51 to the . If Im headed to Utica Ave from the same location and the is not running , then I can go directly to the . If I’m leaving QCM and the QBL is crap, I can take the Q52/53 to the Q51 with one transfer. How are you determining latent demand for these routes? It would be interesting if it was extended down Hook Creek Blvd to Green Acres. The extension to Gateway is to provide a trip generator and allow connections. Someone along the B6 may need to go to SE Queens, and vice versa. From the various posts others have made so far, I think there is too much focus on Gateway being the western terminal and if there will be high turnover there. The Q51 is proposed to be a crosstown route that has to terminate somewhere. That being said, Gateway is a trip generator, with a few connecting routes, and as such it will not be the end destination for everyone heading there. The Q8 is too packed and slow to make the trip from Jamaica unless you really had to, so it may not be the best gauge for potential ridership. The Q51 would be a faster “Crosstown(SBS)” and connect to numerous routes along the way. Whenever I use the Belt Parkway, there are a lot of cars using Exit 15 (Erskine St) going to/from Queens, so there is some demand, even if by car/FHV.
  17. It can be beneficial, depends on where the riders are going. Right, I was not talking about local riders as they are irrelevant to my point of the Q57. As you’ve mentioned, the Q8 was packed during the outage, the Q8 runs closer to the , Connects to the , Connects to LIRR, runs along Jamaica Ave. Sounds like a proposed route. (Also the wasn’t running past Euclid) The Q112 routing sucks. The Q57 will get more just by it’s routing along Sutphin Blvd and Jamaica Ave. I’m not saying it will be the default choice for Fulton St riders going to/from or east of Jamaica, but it will be another option. That’s the thing, why go to the if it’s currently cumbersome to do so? The Q51 and Q57 will make it easier with potentially one transfer if you’re by Linden Blvd or Jamaica Ave. The purpose of the Q51 is to be a crosstown route. It will connect many routes thereby opening trip options, and allow transfers at Gateway to other Brooklyn routes. It will also allow many trip options to Gateway or Green Acres with one transfer, bypass congested Jamaica, and connect to the 🙃.
  18. All of your comments regarding the Q57 remind me of the “ and shouldn’t be merged” arguments because “ riders want Nassau st” and “anyone that wants 6th Ave can transfer at Essex St”. My perspective is from my experiences riding the Fulton St line and preferring to stay on the Express instead of transferring at Broadway Junction, where by the time you get to the Mezzanine the is already at Euclid or Grant Ave. Where after arriving at Jamaica Center I still had to get to Jamaica bus terminal and there wasn’t enough time to get there to catch the next bus, etc. This is when I used a monthly unlimited to get around. Now I just use City Ticket. However there are others that have to deal with the disjointed transit network.
  19. No LIRR cross honoring either. I’m thinking from the prospective of those that would usually transfer at Broadway Junction to continue to Jamaica, not those along Jamaica Ave or Fulton St. They have the buses you’ve mentioned, and the Subway Shuttle.
  20. Q112 Sucks. Starts at Hillside and Parsons to Jamaica Center then goes in the opposite direction to Guy R Brewer Blvd, etc. It does not connect to LIRR, does not go near Jamaica Bus Terminal.
  21. And Q23. Current riders may not make those transfers but Future riders may due to the extended routing and additional connections. ——— No this weekend between Crescent St and Jamaica Center, a Q57 to/from the would certainly be helpful in this case.
  22. Which (types of) routes are they planning to run them on?
