  1. I've been on the M8s twice to date. Most recent trip was GCT to Fairfield Metro (11 March 2012, #6552), and I think I can understand
Trains stopping at Fairfield Metro still do not have announcements programmed for Fairfield Metro. As far as they know, there's no station between Fairfield (Unquowa Rd) and Bridgeport.

    It's announced though

  2. Shore Line east is getting M8s as well

SLE will not see M8s for several years. Their stations have to be converted to high level platforms and the whole order must be completed as well. Also after this is complete, many tests will have to be done. So don't get excited after that so fast.:P

  3. This post is for anyone who knows fleet assignments:

With 3 M8 8-car trains in service as of now, I would like to know the current M8 assignments.

PS: I saw gregorygrice's post of fleet assignments when there were two M8 8-car trains in service.

The M8s still run on the same train #s just a couple of added ones. I will post an update when I record the additions.

  4. The M8s run on theses trains:

    Weekday:

    1511

    1521

    1340

    1244

    1451

1375 (arrives on Track 108 in GCT)

    1570 (Track 109 in GCT)

    1370 (Track 108 in GCT)

    1387

    1588

    1595

    1594

    Weekend:

    6509

    6525

    6329

    6341

    And also:

    The New Haven Yankee Clipper*

*M8s not guaranteed on trains with this mark.

  5. Eh, the M2's are being replaced by the initial order. I meant the additional 38 ones that ENY was talking about.

Yes part of those 38 cars are barcar sets. I believe the other cars will be used as spares and later for Shore Line East service.

  6. For those of you foamers :P The M8s run on theses trains:

    Weekday:

    1511

    1521

    1451

1375 (arrives on Track 108 in GCT)

    1570 (Track 109 in GCT)

    1370 (Track 108 in GCT)

Thats all for now. More later :P

  7. Caught them again, And this time I rode both of the revenue sets, in one day!: Here are the cab shots (Other M8 videos can be seen on my Youtube Page):

And Both sets leaving GCT next to each other:

  8. :P

Do we have a rough idea of what the M-8s' schedule is, at least arriving and leaving Grand Central?

    Thanks.

They have been running on different times particualrly during rush hour.

  9. Second set consists of 9121-20 - 9119-18 - 9111-10 - 9123-22

There are 6 cars in Yonkers 4 still from pantograph damage and one pair for other modifications, believed to be one first pairs.

Currently two cars at sea, and two more on Boat but has not left Japan yet,

6 cars ready for shipping on next boat and last pair sometime in May

  10.

    Here's a question for Homeball:

I generally see bar cars placed in the middle of a consist, whenever possible. Is this for ease of access from both ends of the train, or to minimize inebriated passengers from passing between cars by usually having the bar car platform, or for ease of car-cuts at short platforms, or am I completely off with my observation?

Barcars are also found on the front of the consist

  11. Will these be locked or do they have the ability to be opened by pushing on them like the M7A's. Last I knew any train could not be locked in the full cab position in the event of the need of emergency egress in the tunnels.

Well yeah but you will get into trouble doing that

  12. OK, but what about the area where the cab is open for people to walk through the cars? Are those windows locked?

The only cab that will be locked is the back and the front cabs. The ones in the middle of the train are locked in the SIGNLE cab position that allows passengers to walk through withought seeing the actual controls, just like the way M7s are.
