  1. via bridge No trains between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Chambers St. Customers advised to take the at Hoyt St to 4 Av/9 St for the . Suspended No trains between York St and Bedford-Nostrand, via Bergen St. Select southbound trains run via the line to Atlantic Av/Barclays, then via the to 36th St, then terminate at 9 Av. Local in Brooklyn
  2. That's not allowed - no services can be cut back.
  3. Trains run in two sections: ...............Bronx to 2 Av, via CPW Local and 8 Av Local ...............West 4 St to Brooklyn Trains run express between 145 and Canal St. No trains between Broad St and 71 Av. The last stop on some northbound trains is 57 St. Additional service (using cars) runs between 71 Av and Whitehall St. NEXT 47 St/Rock Ctr is impassable uptown. Rule: No services can be suspended, cut back, or split in two sections. *Only one service can be suspended.
  4. Except the often run on one track. Solution: trains run via Lexington 7 Av in both directions. Northbound 5 trains already on Lexington change into s running between 149th and Bowling Green. NEXT 53 St as well as 50 St is impassable. Reroute: , others as needed
  5. There's room for three (slightly reduced) lines, which the , , and satisfy (no, that's not a typo, the B is just relabeled as a Q and rerouted). NEXT 6 Av & 59 St is flooded. Reroute: Note: All lines must have same tph to Manhattan as before. Bonus: the switches at Lex/59 are unusable as well.
  6. The thing is, at Atlantic there are at least the to provide extra Manhattan-bound service.
  7. If I understood you correctly that you mean that no northbound trains can pass Brighton Beach: No trains between Kings Hwy and Brighton Beach. The last stop on most southbound trains is Kings Hwy. Those trains that proceed to Coney Island become northbound trains. NEXT 6 Av & 59 St is flooded. Reroute: Note: All lines must have same tph to Manhattan as before. Bonus: the switches at Lex/59 are unusable as well.
  8. That's to avoid switching and minimize merging delays.
  9. There's a reason the even runs to Brooklyn - it's well used. Whenever I see Manhattan-bound and trains in the AM rush, they are always crowded. The Brighton Line would probably suffocate without the .
  10. Suspended south of 34 St to provide capacity to D, N, and Q trains. Trains run in two sections: .........Bronx to 34 St. .........34 St to Brooklyn, via Brighton Local, through Coney Island, and up to 36 St.1 Trains run between Queens and 59 St, via Brighton Local, through Coney Island, and then up to 36 St. 1 No trains between Atlantic Av/Barclays and 36 St. 1If capacity does not permit all of these trains to go through Coney Island, they can terminate at Brighton Beach.
  11. Are we working under the assumption that there is a crossover at Atlantic Av to allow said trains to terminate?
  12. Assuming the following: The must be increased to compensate for the cancelled .1 There is no room for the , , , and increased in the tunnel. 2 The cannot be cut from Manhattan. 3 The can't travel over the bridge. 4 Therefore: The , , or (actually more than one of the above) must be cut from the tunnel. Service will end up looking something like this: Suspended Trains run in two sections: .........Bronx to 34 St. .........34 St-Herald Sq to Brooklyn, via Broadway Exp and tunnel. Note that the last stop on some northbound trains is Atlantic Av/Barclays. No trains between Astoria-Ditmars Bl and Atlantic Av/Barclays. Service increased. 1 Otherwise, the Brighton will be severely overcrowded, with 20tph-worth of people waiting for 10tph-worth of trains. Whether they transfer later or not is irrelevant - they have to get on the train along the Brighton Line first. 2 That's very significantly more than 30 tph. 3 The only place a northbound can terminate in Brooklyn is Prospect Park. This would not work because the only connecting line there is the , which has two car trains and cannot run every 4 minutes. 4 We forgot about this aspect of the puzzle IIRC.
  13. The could terminate at Atlantic Av, with riders transferring to the , , , or . The does not have the luxury of terminating at Atlantic Av.
  14. Most of the delays that you (Brooklyn) mention come from merging - e.g. two trains arrive at 34 St at the same time and one of them has to wait. Once the lines are merged, delays shouldn't be too bad. If it's really an issue, there can be one less train per hour on each line. That would be a 3tph reduction, which is pretty significant in terms of track capacity.
  15. The only way for a Q coming from the Brighton Line to terminate at Atlantic Av is for it to single-track from Prospect Park (this is done during late nights, but Q trains must run every 30 minutes for this to work). Even if both tracks are used, this results in a 15-minute frequency, which is nowhere near sufficient. Thus, until the Brighton Line gets a switch at Atlantic Av, Q trains in non-late-night service will continue to end at Prospect Park or get priority to run through to Manhattan.
  16. There's no way for a to terminate at Atlantic or Dekalb. As for the N/Q/R, once they merge, delays should be minimal. The stream of trains is assembled and then moves down the line smoothly, since there is no switching and merging.
  17. I read a thread to read something interesting, not this really old joke about 'fowm' repeated a million times. NEXT No trains can pass 57 St at 6 and 7 Avs. Reroute: Note that all lines must have the same tph to Manhattan as before.
  18. It's better than having all possible combinations of routes run, since that leads to emptier buses. This is where the idea of the SI Express hub originated from, with feeders serving it from SI and then buses going to every part of Downtown and Midtown. That would lead to better equipment utilization overall.
  19. Quit acting like a five-year-old. It's annoying. I believe I said this before. NEXT No trains can pass 57 St at 6 and 7 Avs. Reroute: Note that all lines must have the same tph to Manhattan as before.
  20. Have the train hit the next red signal and go into emergency. Or just have the train go up the Manhattan Bridge, where it will end up reversing anyway. Other trains can be turned at West 4 St or B'way - Lafayette. No trains between Chambers and 168 St. Trains run in two sections: .........Bronx to 2 Av, via the between 145 St and West 4 St. .........West 4 St to Brooklyn. Trains run express in Manhattan. Trains run via the between West 4 St and Roosevelt Av. Trains run to Chambers St. Trains in Queens run as trains between 71 Av and Whitehall St. Limited service to Astoria. Select trains run via 63 St to 21 St/Queensbridge. Uptown trains run via 7 Av. The last stop on some southbound trains is 138 St, 86 St, or 59 St. Uptown trains run express from 14 to 42 St. NEXT The 7 Av Line is impassable at 34 St.
  21. IMHO the via 6th and the via 8th at the same time should be avoided. Also, 6 Av Express trains cannot use 2 Av. Here's my solution: Local north of 34 St and south of Hoyt St. Suspended Trains run express between 34 St and Canal St. Trains run either via Crosstown or via Cranberry and 53 St. Cut back to Broad St. NEXT 14 St/8 Av is impassable. Reroute:
  22. Trains run in two sections:* ...............Bronx to 34 St/Herald Sq. ...............34 St/Herald Sq to Brooklyn, via Broadway Exp and bridge. Trains run via the in both directions between Canal St and Atlantic Av. Trains run local between Canal St and 34 St. * Any trains in the affected area stop-and-stay at the next station. NEXT All four local tracks are impassable at West 4 St.
  23. They were working at Sutter Av IIRC, not at New Lots.
  24. It's been there before. NEXT Carroll St is impassable. NO FOAMING
  25. I meant that the track was impassable, so no 'skips 50 St northbound' are possible. That's way too easy. And yes I know we're on 94, I just wanted an old scenario. Cut back to Hoyt St. Cut back to Broad St. No trains between 95 St and Coney Island. Some trains terminate at 9 Av. No trains between Prospect Park and Coney Island. Trains run via the in both directions between West 4 St and Kings Hwy. Trains run via the in both directions between West 4 St and Av X. NEXT Rockefeller Ctr is impassable northbound. Reroute: , others as needed. All lines must have the same tph to Manhattan as before.
