  1. That is true. More so for the R44s. Too much "tech" too soon. The main issue for the R46s were the trucks. But going back to their 'roots' are what makes the 62s and 68s going strong!

The R62s and R68s also have the benefit of being made in a time where the (MTA) started to take maintenance and "testing out things before you buy it" more seriously.

And to the issues of the R42s, current (MTA) literature has them as being replaced by the R179s, regardless of the current deplorable conditions of the cars or any unconfirmed information we've herd.

  2. More problems along the (R)

    Delays Posted: 12/23/2012 12:52PM

Due to track maintenance on the Manhattan Bridge, downtown n.png and q.png trains are running with delays at this time.

    Service Change Posted: 12/23/2012 12:48PM

Due to switch trouble at the Whitehall Street-South Ferry Station, r.png trains are running on the q.png line from the Canal Street Station to the DeKalb Avenue Station in both directions.

Please expect delay in n.png, q.png and r.png train service at this time.

  3. Too bad nobody wanted to listen to me when I told them that the (1) would be going to 14 St, followed by Chambers St and lite through the loop, and then eventually Rector St would reopen, instead holding on to this crazy idea about the (1) running from 242 to New Lots. Is there anyone who STILL thinks that's going to happen???

No one with a working frontal lobe took the idea of the (1) returning to New Lots seriously...

  4. Why is everyone assuming that the r62A's are going on the Lexington Avenue line and/or/maybe the 7th avenue line. What if the MTA decides to do something else with them. Who knows

They might decide to do something else, it is the (MTA). So far, all of the sources and information provided have suggested that the (6) will get R62A's. The reason being that the (6) is completely R142A, and those cars are being converted and sent to the (7).

Some of those don't seem right...

Some of the numbers might be off, but then the fleet will be 11 cars so it might not use the traditional A division standard of numbering.

  5. Isn't the Grand Concourse line a 3-tracked line? I wonder what could have happened to knock out 2 or 3 tracks at once.

When I saw I was just as confused as you. The only thing I can think of is a train switching tracks that had an issue.

In any event servive is restored, except uptown trains are bypassing 155th

  6. See, this is exactly why people get frustrated with the MTA. These communication problems are atrocious. If the line isn't running, say the line isn't running. If it's running in sections, say the line is running sections and specify what said sections are. That info-dump that Amtrak7 posted above is a mess of unnecessary crap. The bus overlap shouldn't even be mentioned unless there is limited service running between Main St and 74 St. It gives the impression there's no service running between those two stations. And in the mess of info, there isn't anything about having the riders transfer to the E, F or R trains for service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, especially with the N being split up this weekend.

You must have been livid during the (D)(N)(R) shutdown.

    Update:

    - (7) still out TSQ-QBP.

    -Shuttle train TSQ-5 Av

-Buses (and trains) are running 74-Main St

    -LIRR still crosshonoring

Big problem: There is a GO this weekend cutting the 60 St tunnel between Lex and QBP!!!

The (E) is probably a madhouse right now. I feel bad for the people who have to get to Astoria.

  7. The R46's don't have alot a life left in them ether, the ones on the (A) and (C) are doing bad as well due to breakdowns and etc., the Polit R179 should be here by 2015-earliy 2016 (if deliverd late) for testing when the R32's retire half of them will get scrapped, the other half will stay for non revenue service (work trains) for the B division, also another pair will be saved for the Museum.

The R46s are getting rehabbed to extend their life for SIR service, so theyre not a source of concern for the MTA.

  8. 207th Yard can't maintain 75 footers. It's looks like the C would be gettin NTT's ultimately. the Q mind as well get R179s if this is for SAS expanision and the C get the Q's R160s. @ArtVandelay: Where does it say R179 would mostly be 4-car sets?

I wouldn't count on the © nor the (A) getting R160s once the R179s come. I dont have any proof, but a gut feeling and looking at how the MTA operates.

  9. "cursed" in a way. Somehow there always seems to be something that causes a delay or total suspension of the project over the decades. Money troubles, etc. It'll be a miracle when the 1st segment opens.

No it wont. The miracle will be segments 3 and 4. Phase 1 will open sometime before the end of the decade, and phase 2 probably ten years after (If I were a betting man Id say 2029).

  10. (:): No trains between Broadway-Lafayette and Brighton Beach. Trains rerouted via (F) to 2nd Av Station.

    (D)(N): Expect delays at passing.

(N): Extra trains operate between Whitehall St (R) and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd.

(Q): No trains between Astoria/57th St & Prospect Park.

(R): Additional service between Bay Ridge & Forest Hill.

Shuttle buses provided between Prospect Park & DeKalb Av.

    NEXT:

Due to terror thread at Top of Rock, 47th-50th Sts, 5th Av-53rd St and 7th Av-53rd St Stations are impassable.

    Provide shuttle buses and buses.

Streets Closure: Affect regular bus and shuttle buses.

    5th-6th Avs between 42nd & 57th Sts

    7th Av-Broadway from 53rd St to 46th Sts.

Madison Av from 46th to 49th Sts.

    (B): Suspended

(D): Trains run from Brooklyn into 57th Street (Q) platform

(F): After W 4th Street, trains run via (A) then (D) to Bronx

    (M): Service runs to Myrtle

(R): Trains run via (F) from 57th Street to 179th Street

    M50: Suspended in both directions.

M5 and M7 uptown: Diverted to 8th AVenue

    Q32, M4 and M5 runs via 7th Avenue

    M1/2/3 runs via Lexington Avenue

Express buses run via 2nd Avenue

  11. How many (J)s are run during the late nights? i'd say 4-6. All you'll need are 2 or 3 trains not being used, uncouple them in CI yard and run them over to Chambers Street for service. It cant be that hard. It only has to be done for late night service. Its just that those trains'll have to be the last ones to go back into regular daytime service on their respective routes.

EXAMPLE: If it ever did happen which i doubt is likely, Take a train onto the Sea Beach express track. Spit it and head off to the Nassau Line. Do the opposite on the way back to prepare it for daytime service on another line. The process to decouple shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Now that he mentions it, it is a bad idea.

Theres no cost benefit into doing it. If anything thats a bigger labor cost than the 8 car trains that run now.

  12. They're not restricted, just not used on the line. There is a difference between just not using them on certain lines and having cars that are too heavy and long to use the line. The 5-car R160s could run on the Eastern division, but just as the 5 cars alone. Which i dont think would be a bad idea for the (J) line between 2-4 or 5am.

Thats not a bad idea except people along the (J) would throw a fit.

  13. Of course Jamaica's R160 has many problems,do you see what lines they are serving? (E)(F) Express in queens is enough to bring any train down to its chassis.

From what I've seen they're doing pretty well....given the kind of animals that step on them.

  14. what the mta tells the public and what really happens are 2 very different storys. lately there have been a lot of problems getting 160s to add back up. when the weather gets hot and humid the computers on the tech trains crap out. now dont get it wrong i love the 160s. but they are not the perfect train the mta says they are.

NX beat me to the punch. I don't disagree with you with that theyre not perfect and the computers arent doing well in the summer heat, but I don't see the R160s performing worse than the R32s overall (and likewise, I don't see the R32s as god awful clunkers....or at least not god awful).

  15. yeah, they are in a shitty situation right now, but I hope they can get it together, they have to many orders, they got the R188's, The M8's the PA-5's and a Huge order for DC Metro so the're hands are tied at the moment, the MTA might just wait and just make the R211 a very Huge Order, Plus the R42's might go sooner because of their shitty performance

Are there enough R32s to swap them out?

  16. I totally agree. On the flipside of it, would 61st be left as is [maybe have the express just bypass the stop] or converted into a local station?

On my other note, I would have Woodhaven on the J/Z converted to a 2 island platform stop as a set up for a jamaica av 'express'.

That Im not sure about. The ridership is high there, but IMO its going to become redundant once ESA comes along.
