  1. I'm still kinda disappointed that they went mostly 4-car sets, too. These things are going to be so inflexible with most of the B-Division, and it's going to keep the train short-length for the next 40 years. Suppose they want to extend the , or reroute it... Train length would definitely become an issue. Although, I did kind of relax a little when I thought about the being a helper line, and has only a few solo stops. That calmed me a little. It's only good for now, though, and not for change.
  2. I don't think 2 Avenue is that quiet, or quiet at all. The reason the Lexington Avenue Line is so crowded is because the whole east side of Manhattan is using it. That extension it going to get significant ridership on it's first day.
  3. So where will they relay after terminating at Chambers?
  4. +1 For the effort. Not in agreement with the changes, but man you went in.
  5. Nah, this was something different. This was consistent horn blowing with out speed restrictions. Like, pretty much blowing the horn like every two signals, or something.
  6. I got on two consecutive trains where the T/O's where blowing the horn at seemingly random times throughout the whole route, tonight. This got annoying very fast. Is there something to this, or is it just happenstance?
  7. Railfanner Noel's got video of a full 11-car (R188) train testing on the Dyre Ave line on Youtube.
  8. I saw a video that shows them stopping at the 10-car marker.
  9. I are disappointed. They are essentially ordering cars for one line. I guess people will be running for the train for the next 45 years.
  10. I'm not getting any of this talk I'm reading. The line uses 18 trains. If it gets 260 R179's, isn't 40 spare cars (four trains) adequate enough? (I'm talking full length trains.) That leaves 40 cars for the Eastern Division. Isn't 5 trains enough to replace the remaining R42's? (That's 480' trains) It's like I'm the only one that doesn't like the being this unnecessarily short, oddball line that's 480' long. This is an opportunity for the TA to make the full length. I'm pretty sure riders are happy that it's full length right now, because of the summer swap. They're probably wondering why it isn't like that all year-round. The have to be shorter because of platform limitations. If the orders new cars especially short for this one line, the is going to be an oddball line for the next 40 years. Plus, there'll be little to no flexibility with these oddball cars. You certainly won't see them on the . I imagine people would be highly upset if they had to start running for the , too. They'd say, "Wow, we finally got new cars on the , but now the is shorter. What gives?" To me, this is a simple issue. Why all this car swap discussion?
  11. Why do people keep thinking that most of this order is going to be 4-car sets? That makes no sense at all. The ()' /> would essentially be ordering new cars for one line.
  12. Is there a program for the to 168th St. via the ?
  13. I noticed that SMS'ed cars truck's are nice and clean.
  14. Hmm...where, and how, is the American Flag gonna go on this one? Maybe it'll be hanging vertically, underneath the MTA decal...
  15. Interestingly enough, the tunnel boring is the fastest part of the whole project. I thought it would be the longest. But all the excavating and moving of utilities are the thing that's taking the longest time. This is why I'd like to see the work on projects that are easier, such as rebuilding of abandoned RoWs. The infrastructure is there, all that needs to be done is a little planning and renovation. Then move on to the brand new stuff. Although, some parts of SAS are already built so, in a way, they're already doing that.
  16. People further east than Second Avenue won't have to walk those long blocks to Lexington Avenue. I use to go to school on the UES. I had to walk from Lex. to Second Ave. every morning. If there was a fully operational SAS back then, I wouldn't have used the Lexington Avenue line.
  17. Yeah, the remaining 40 in fours (5 trains). Also, one less train for the Eastern Division. There are currently 6 (48 cars) R42 trains.
  18. With 222 R32 cars available for service, that's 27 trains (480') at most. If 260 of the R179's are arranged in fives (26 trains), that's a loss of only one train. The runs about 18 trains, at most, at any given time. Why would most of this order be arranged in fours?
  19. The MTA just said that they're learning from FASTRACK, so instead of shutting down a section of track every weekend for many weekends, they'll close an area for about a week straight. Honestly, this and thing is greater--so to speak--than Fastrack because this section of track is shut down at all times, not just nights.
  20. Who said most were going to be in 4-car sets!?
  21. I like this new way of maintenance. It's about time.
