Thanks, was hoping I got the email for medical this week. I'm trying to calculate a time frame and start date for a class so my transition from BO to track goes smooth.

I went from B/O to Track. It was pretty smooth for the most part. I overheard a class may have just went in yesterday so maybe it'll be about 3 weeks until the next one goes in.

So if you did the urine test already does that mean your in the June class? Or is it possible we could be waiting until oct

Depends, if they fill the class before they reach your list number you may have to wait till the next scheduled class.

To the people who were in classes before the May 30th class, what did you wear to your TWU Orientation? One of the presenters in the HR Orientation said you're expected to wear your uniform unless stated otherwise when answering a question but it was a mixed class of different workers and track workers don't have uniform so what do we wear? Just the 6lb boots and something business casual? Is that our uniform?

Just wear regular clothes, boots are a must.

Do they give you travel time if reporting to the job site ? Let’s say you drive to the job site then parking would be on you right ?

Depending on how far the job site is from the quarters determines the amount of travel time they'll pay you.

The max for the day you can get is 2 hours, 1 hour each way basically.

    Yeah parking is on you.

For those of you who been on the job for a while, do you go to base then head out to the job site  or do you go to the job site ? I’m just curious because living in Long Island it would be kinda difficult going to the job site

If you go to a maintenance gang you report to the same quarters every day/night.

If you go to a capital days gang you direct report to the job site every day unless of bad weather, then you go to the quaters.

If you go capital nights, you report to the quarters on weekdays, and weekends you report directly to the job site.

Ive seen some train operators wearing sneakers when operating the train. So does this mean boots are only required in the train yards?

lol no, you can't operate/work in the subway without properly authorized shoes/boots.

New class graduated yesterday. Highest seniority in that class was 2099. Mostly maintenance night spots. Utica was the last to be picked and that quarters had multiple spots lol

That was the class that came right after yours right? I think one just started also this past Monday, with another one planned for May 30th.

So a drivers license is required? Idc about drinking and drugs I don’t do none of that. Are you automatically disqualified if you don’t have a valid drivers license?

You don't need a license for this title but, if you want to move to certain specialist titles they require CDL's.

(ie. Crane Operator, Specialist Operator, Clipper, Chauffer)

Got you. Thank for all the info. Appreciated. Are there benefits and pension good. I live in Long Island so I heard I’ll be able to take the LIRR for free and I would imagine the subways as well. So I guess they give you an option to do capital days/night or they just place you themselves?

During on the job training they'll provide your class a job list that you'll be able to choose from in seniority order.

If you go nights the shifts are either 10p-6a or 11p-7a

If you go days it's going to be 8a-4p

You're pass/employee ID will grant you access to ride the subway/bus/express bus/LIRR/MNRR

What does capital day/night mean? Sorry for all the questions. This is my first time taking a civil service test and I know nothing about this stuff and how it works.

Capital does the major track construction work, basically replacing everything. Difference between Days and Nights is would you rather work above ground or below ground. The most money is probably in Capital Nights followed by Capital Days.

Maintenance has overtime but, it's a hit and miss and it depends on what section you're in. One of the pro's for maintenance in my opinion is you report to the same quarters everyday and you probably will have a locker.

Capital is mostly direct reports to stations instead of your quarters.

You wouldn’t be able to give me some time frame could you? I’m going crazy waiting for this job!!! What’s the pay? They have a good pension? @dman1455

Pay's decent, if you go Capital Day/Night out of school you can make really good money. They're doing about a class a month right now with consistent hiring. You'll get in don't worry, almost there.

So I emailed the people in the offices and they say that the list is in the 19xx’s? So they are wrong?

I'm not sure how long ago they told you that, for pre-employment they seem to be in the 21/2200's right now, maybe for final/medical they're only in the 1900's.
