  2. Because of a switch problem @ W4 2pm (A) & (C) were running on the (D) line from W4 to 59 and they had some (E)'s running express from W4 to Bedford Park Blvd......that would have been a great photo moment.

    (E) to Bedford Park? Must have been a serious switch problem, and I hope SOMEBODY got a picture or something.

  3. May I get two fantasy signs?

  4. Hey everybody!

My best friend and I made a promise that we pass 8th grade and the specialized high school test, so NO REQUEST ACCEPTED FROM ME until further notice. You can request your signs from the people who are helping this thread.

    Good day!

Understandable. Best of luck on the test btw. Ah, I remember taking that test so long ago (i.e. 2 years ago). :P

  5. The former Bx28, in my opinion, fascinates me because it had 2 weekday rush hour branches. One branch from Williamsbridge to Burnside Av/Concourse had one bus to and from Burnside Av during the AM and PM rush hours. The other branch was from Bedford Pk/Goulden - 205 to West Farms Sq, weekday rush hours only, and had more buses than the Burnside Av branch.

Anyways, foam at the sign if you must.

    Amazing sign!

Btw, was the Bedford Park to West Farms branch via Tremont & Jerome or what?

  7. I would have (L) train stops at 2nd Ave. and Avenue B instead of at 1st and 3rd Aves. 3rd Avenue is a given as it's only a block away from Union Sq., and walking to Alphabet City is a bitch depending on how far in you have to go (good luck if you're going to Ave. D...). Also, when (if) the SAS reaches down there in Phase 3 anyway it would make the 14th St. transfer to the that much easier. Similarly, I would add 2nd Ave. stations to the (F), (N)(Q)(R), (E)(M) and (7) lines. No one's going to want to walk 2 avenues down to the Lexington Ave. stations when the SAS opens, and 2nd Ave. is populated enough to warrant stations too. I doubt those are possible under existing conditions though.

I agree with the (L) train idea.

About the Second Av. stations, while they would be convenient stations, they wouldn't work:

There is already a Second Av. station on the (F) (hence it's title, 2nd Av).

The (E)(M) won't happen because the Queens-bound end of 53 St. - Lexington Av. is at, if not passed Third Av.

Similar with the (N)(Q)(R) at 59 St. - Lexington Av. AND the (7) at Grand Central.

  8. The (6) actually has 3 terminals during the day

    Pelham Bay Park

    Parkchester

3 Av-138th St (During the day several trains end their run there in the AM & PM going uptown and be sent back down) if you ever caught a (6) train announcement saying "This is a Brooklyn Bridge bound (6) local train" that was the train that terminated at 138th and those are not put-ins.

Well, as 7LineFan had said a few posts above, similar issues happen on the (7). There are Queens-bound (7) trains that are scheduled to terminate at Willets Point, but their rollsigns still say to Main St. It's just announced that it's stopping short. As long as the announcer on the 3 Av-bound (6) mentions that it's stopping short (i.e. "This is a 3 AVENUE-138 STREET BOUND (6) train"), the signs won't make THAT big of a difference. Worst case scenario, they'll get off at 3 Av and continue their trip. Not too much of an inconvenience, because if they knew beforehand, they'd still be waiting for another train -- only difference would be waiting in Manhattan opposed to waiting at 3 Av.

  9. May I have a few please?

    --------------------------------

    Uptown & Queens

    (F) To Jamaica - 179 St,

    via Queens Blvd Exp.

    (Q) To Harlem - 125 St,

    via Second Av.

    --------------------------------

    Downtown & Brooklyn

    (6) via Lexington Av Local

    To Brooklyn Bridge, all times.

Late nights (4) to Brooklyn stops here.

    (Q) via 2 Av/Broadway Exp.

    To Coney Island, Brooklyn

    all times.

    (T) via 2 Av Local

    To Hanover Square, all times.

  10. irt can run on bmt lines. the irt trains do fit. they do it when they do transfers. bmt can not run on irts lines because of size. as for the 7 it would have to be a extreme emergency for them to be sent to astoria.

Right, but wasn't there something about the distance between the train and the platform that made it so IRT trains only run on BMT tracks during moves?

  11. Whats the point of the FINDS anyways where else can the (7) be re-routed except via the (N) N/B.I rather have them trains have stripmaps b\c at least they won't be frozen they'll be off with words illuminated that's its not in use or they'll be on displaying the correct stops. But then again I don't ride the (7) so I shouldn't care much.

If they were put on the (2)(4)(5)(6) fleet it would make sense.

and system restraints (i.e. IRT can't run on BMT lines) make it pretty much impossible for it to even be rerouted via the (N) to Astoria. It can not be rerouted anywhere else so the strip map will be fine. If there's a (7)<7> G.O., they can just turn some of the strip map dots off (like the (6) now with it skipping Elder & St. Lawrence). No need for FINDS there --

Agreeing with it being more useful on the current IRT NTT cars (esp. the (2) and (5) which are known for switching a lot, but the (4) and (6) as well).

  12. Its the weird programming. Several times Ive heard the announcement play with the doors closed. Usually at 59 street it happens. This is what happens:

"...By walking to the lexington Avenue-63rd Street Station, and *Doors open* using your metrocard." *Long Pause* "Stand Clear of the closing doors please." *Doors close* *train starts moving* "This is a bronx bound (4) express train. The next stop is 86 Street".

I know once it did something really weird (I was on an R142A (5) train). Here was the announcement:

"This is: 59 Street. Transfer is available to the (6)(N)(Q) & (R) trains. A free-" *ding* "Stand clear of the-"

apperently the conductor was trying to cut off the Free Transfer to the (F) train part of the announcements, and it got jammed and played the closing doors message (when the train was still in motion).

It's partially because the transfer announcement "a free transfer is also available to the (F) train by walking to the lexington avenue - 63rd street station and using your MetroCard" makes the entire 59 St announcement really long,

when the announcement isn't started AS SOON AS the train enters 59th, the announcement is still playing when the doors open. I think the problem is that they can't easily play the "This is a Bronx/Pelham Bay Park/Parkchester-bound..." announcement when that happens. Some solve that by waiting until the entire announcement completes before opening the doors.

    I might be wrong though.

  13. Random thought:

when the (Q) gets extended to 96 St,

    (6) at 59 St:

"This is, 59th Street. Transfer is available to the (4),(5),(N),(R), and (W) trains. A free transfer is also available to the (F) and (Q) trains by walking to the Lexington Avenue - 63rd Street station and using your MetroCard."

    (Q) at 63/Lex:

"This is, Lexington Avenue - 63 Street. Transfer is available to the (F) train. A free transfer is also available to the (4),(5),(6),(N),(Q), and (W) trains by walking to the Lexington Avenue - 59th Street station and using your MetroCard."

Sounds like an interesting announcement to hear.

*mentioned (W) b/c of popular thought that (W) will be revived when (Q) goes via 2nd Av

  14. You will Still need Extra trains plus Your going to have to increase the headways on the (Q) and your going to need more trains for that

But then they'd need to be decreased again when the (T) finally exists.

(Even though I question why the (Q)'s headways would need to be significantly increased for it to run an extra 5-7 stops from Midtown)

  15. That would not work because the (4)(5)(8) would not all fit in one tunnel.

Well it's actually possible, because they are basically changing Nereid Av-bound trains/trains leaving Nereid designated as (5)s to (8) and running them local with the (6) in Manhattan, and express from 180-149. It'd theoretically be the same amount of trains on the WPR line. The schedule would have to be worked at, to run smoothly with the current <5> between 180th & 3 Av as well as the (6) in Manh, but it's not impossible.
