  1. There must be an equal effort to ensure working fare machines at every location where fare enforcement takes place. Otherwise, those that cannot pay any fare because none of the fare machines are working properly are criminalized. I have witnessed this countless times where NYPD is posted up at a station entrance for fare enforcement only to stand around and let people in themselves when none of the fare machines are accepting cash.

Not everyone always has a bank card or balance readily available for use, and if putting a $5 bill on a Metrocard instead of going into overdraft is too difficult because there are no operable fare machines accepting cash it's inevitable people will have no choice but to wait until the fare gate opens.

Word on the street is , that the R211S are ready to go just v waiting for the MTA President to head over to the island

It is in Clifton Shop with Test Train signs still in the window and blue tape on the top corners as of this post.

Edit: I've also observed some stations have "R5" and "C5" markers (along with "R3 and C3") while others do not.

  3. 4150-4159 is currently burn-in testing heading to Far Rockaway at ENY as of 11:10PM. I've never witnessed burn-in testing occuring this late before.

A few seconds before this, 4170-4179 showed up going Local with blank signage on the South end of the train. It's been running like this all day.

Believe what you want, that set has been in service since the 27th from 3 pm.

To confirm once more this set is currently running heading Northbound at Euclid. Looking at it as I'm typing this.

Nice. I wasn't expecting this. That would be the 13th train in service (that's including the 4080s). But I've seen nothing with 4140-44 and 4160-64 tbh. I'm worrying that set might be a false report.

Can someone post photos to make sure 4140 and 4160 being in service isn't false?

    (North) 4160-4164 + 4140-4144 (South)

Spotted by myself yesterday several times to and from Far Rockaway.

Also witnessed 4150-4159 burn-in testing yesterday as well.

  6. (North) 4195-4199 + 4194-4190 (South) in service as of this morning. Spotted at Canal Street going Northbound at around 11:20AM.

Edit: Something is up with cell service underground, this took about 10 minutes to post. The above post somehow made it first.

The Rockaway Shuttle uses the same fleet as the (A) Line so it doesn’t matter what runs on it as long as the required service levels are met. The

The equipment assigned on the Rockaway (S) is primarily R-179, however R-46 sets can be used if needed. This entire previous weekend the shuttle consisted of two R-46 and one R-179 (happened to be the pilot R-179 set, 3010-3014) .

Are the worst performing R46s usually designated for the shuttle?

No. Most often the equipment running on the (S) is shared with what is laid up at Rockaway Park between Rush Hours.

  8. I have been hearing Coney's 5754-5755-5757-5756 and possibly another set has been retired and has been separated sitting in the back of Coney. This explains the one R-160 filling in for a Coney run throughout the day if true.

5754 was the first R-46 built under number 500.

Has anyone seen this set in service recently?

  9. As per sighting by someone else (and not me):

4095-4099 + 4105-4109 has returned to service today (Sunday, December 10) making a total of FIVE sets in rotation for passenger service.

I've also been hearing that the R-211T was supposed to debut in service late last month and haven't heard anything since.

  10. Upon downloading the most recently revised draft plan from "November 2023" from multiple sources, it appears it is literally just the March 29, 2022 version being falsely advertised as the most recent update. Not a single change was made since last year. Yet I've been told the newest plan has been released and is publicly available.

Either multiple website have incorrectly linked 2022's version or the most recent update doesn't exist and they're just using last year's version.

So...any other  R211s that came back in service from gearbox issues?

Plus, can y'all gimme the whole list of R211s in service please (Like goddamn, what happened to 4130-39?)

As of November 27th (the last time I observed the A line)

    1. 4060-4069 (Pilot Set)

    2. 4130-4139

    3. 4110-4114+4129-4125 (First Production Set to return)

    4. 4100-4104+4120-4124 (Second Production Set to return)

Have not observed any new sets burn-in testing.

While I am unable to confirm the status of the R-211T it seems quite implicative that it will run in service very soon. I was told that this month was when it was supposed to debut but so far there is no further word and the month is almost over.

  12. Since late September, the Rockaway Park (S) has been 100% R-179 equipment as incoming R-211s have freed up R-179 sets for use on the Shuttle. However on Thursday November 16th, R-46 set 6046-6047-6049-6048 was placed in service on the Rockaway Park (S) and remained on the line until yesterday (November 20th) of which was swapped with another R46 set in the 596x series. Unfortunately, later in the day someone kicked out the rear cab window and subsequently the R-46 was removed off the line and now the (S) is 100% R-179 equipment once again. With the R-211 fleet returning to service,  R-46 on the Rockaway Park (S) may be a thing of the past.

    Thanks for sharing.

Both open gangway trains should be in service within a few weeks. Let's cross our fingers.

How many r211's are currently in service on the A?

As of November 18th the following 3 trainsets are in revenue service:

    1. 4060-4069 (Pilot trainset)

    2. 4130-4139 (Newest Production trainset)

    3. 4110-4114+4125-4129

4125-4129 were the first to return linked with 4070-4074, however 4070-4074 has been missing in action since November 9 and instead 4110-4114 took its place.

I have not witnessed 4140-4149 at all yet it should be the next trainset to debut.

Not my photo, credit to EON (emperorofnyc)

Apparently, this happened the whole route along with doors trying to open on the wrong side at every stop, too.

This explains why at one point I witnessed it return with all of the announcements abruptly off.

Also, this set and 4114-4110+4129-4125 ran overnight all night into AM Rush again. Safe to say they'll run them at any time now.

  15. Check out the first weekend of December 1st to 4th... (C) suspended the entire weekend, no (A) Jay - Utica just like planned a few months ago before incliment weather and flooding resulted in that being cancelled at the time.

(Apologies if it was already mentioned, I went back a few pages and didn't see anything about this)

Pics of new features added to the R211 in the reddit thread below, looks pretty cool

Interesting to note that 4130-4134 has these features on while 4135-4139 in the same consist doesn't. I rode 4139 last night and did not see the additional features displayed.

  17. (North)4114-4110 + 4125-4129(South) has returned to service, currently heading uptown to 207th at Broad Channel at 12PM.

    Edit: (Sorry for editing all the time, I often remember to add more info just after posting);

It just occured to me that 4125-4129 was previously linked with 4070-4075. This means an additional 5-car set has been returned to service, not a full 10-car train.
