  1. lol Reduced fare Metrocards are NOT just for seniors, disabled or people on SSI. If you fall under the income threshold to qualify for the Fair Fares Program, you can also qualify for a reduced fare Metrocard. Funny how many assumptions you are making.
  2. The physical OMNY card DOES have a fee. You pay a fee to buy it, so that's the fee. You cannot use it if you don't pay the fee and load money on it to activate it.
  3. Obviously a bug and likely related to the reduced fare card specifically. You should try to swipe it at a subway station and see what happens. I will ask if other reduced fare users have had such messages.
  4. What kind of card is it? Pay per ride? Pass? What happens after it says that?
  5. I've never seen it before to be honest. When did it happen? If one of the drivers here doesn't know, then it may be more involved. For such tech issues, I need the specifics to pass along and then it can be researched. I had a few BusTime issues resolved recently that were bugs. Customer Service couldn't resolve it on their own, so it took the tech folks some time to fix it.
  6. A dent? Multiple dents and the buses sounded horrible to boot... Kingsbridge has received a number of new buses recently, which makes their fleet look great. Quite frankly, a number of depots aren't doing such a great job, but the best maintenance wise for local is Michael J. Quill. Since they got newer fleet they've done a good job keeping them up. Oh an nobody is hating on Gun Hill Depot's buses. They don't good job and it shows. Just the truth. Between them and Kingsbridge, they both do a poor job.
  7. Kingsbridge has great maintenance? That must be a joke. I rarely use the local buses in my area, but the times that I have over the years, some of those buses have been absolutely terrible. Banged up on the outside and trashed on the inside. Yonkers had the best maintenance on the express side, but they don't do nearly as good of a job as they used to. The new buses are not cleaned as regularly as they should and I've been on some express buses with sticky floors for the morning commute that clearly should've just come from the depot.
  8. That makes a lot of sense. Something that from previous contacts at the when OMNY was coming out was that they wanted to get out manufacturing cards. It's costly and an expense that the aimed to move away from with OMNY. Even with all of the payment options, they still produced a ton of physical OMNY cards.
  9. Yeah, I would just say to be prepared either way. A while back it was taking a while to process claims when people were unemployed during the height of the pandemic, even if the claims were approved. No idea what the wait times are like now.
  10. Yes, zero tolerance is correct while on probation. Now it doesn't hurt to file the claim for unemployment. I will say this. As someone who hires and fires people, I had someone that I had to fire years ago because of misconduct while on a job for me (dressed unprofessionally despite being told what the dress code was and unable to perform the job to our needs and those of our client (a law firm)). We paid them for the time worked and that was it. If they had filed for unemployment, we would've challenged the claim. Every claim is different though, so who knows, but I would be shocked if the was any different. The employer is the one that provides the unemployment payments, so I would be surprised if they paid out to someone they terminated with cause.
  11. For a number of reasons. The responded to me formally about this in 2021.
  12. You don't say why they terminated you and that is the key. Like anywhere, employment is "at all" between the employer and the employee, and there is termination "with cause" or "without cause". Any employer can challenge an unemployment claim, but especially if an employee is terminated for cause.
  13. I spoke with the yesterday briefly, but not about any fare issues. I don't know anything about Best Fare. What is it exactly?
  14. It's to make people feel safe. Perception is everything and one of the main complaints from riders has been that there aren't police around and there needs to be more of them. Transit crime IS up. It's up 41% from last year. The problem is the people that keep saying that crime isn't a problem in the system are not being impacted personally by it, so therefore they don't believe there's a crime problem. People are avoiding the subways and driving, even though ridership is about 60% what it was pre-pandemic. The ridership numbers are not as high as the had projected, and a major reason for that is crime concerns. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/surge-in-nyc-subway-crime-sets-city-on-edge-breaking-down-the-numbers/3905249/ -------------------- I suppose if people are just using the system to fan or whatever, they may not care or pay attention because they may not use the system that much, but for people that actually commute with it, there is a noticeable difference. I noticed the change months ago and stopped taking the subway entirely. There are too many EPDs in the system and even for someone like myself that has used the subway for many years, the change was noticeable. What is most disturbing to me has been the rise in the amount of random attacks and not for money either. Just people attacking people going about their business.
  15. I don't see the big deal about an OMNY virtual card, but I suppose they think lots of people will want to pay by phone via OMNY (that is what I have observed anyway).
  16. I don't know anything about who does the voices, but I will say that it is probably a glitch with the announcement itself because I've been on buses with the same problem where the automated announcement becomes staticky ONLY with certain stops, but always those. I haven't taken the subway in a while, but I have heard that similar thing at some stops along the Lex line where the announcement is cut off by that chiming noise.
  17. And on four hours you can function (not ideal), but I've done it. Six to seven is much better, but that was four hours because I chose to stay up for a few hours after working 12 hours. The other thing is everyone knows from the beginning if you're going to be working long hours. It was made very clear to me in my position that some days would be long and weekends may be required on occasion and I'm in the private sector in management. Same thing with the , NYPD and a host of other jobs here in the City.
  18. Yeah it's tough. I've worked plenty of 12 hour days and had three hour commutes pre-COVID, but still got enough rest. I'm work from home now, but I know the grind well. I just took issue with the whole two hour bit and the "coercion" statement. That was a bit of a stretch to say the least.
  19. Of course and I don't dispute that. Everyone works long hours here because of the high cost of living or because they want to make more money. A relative of mine worked 70 hours a week some weeks and he lived in New Jersey, but the narrative that anyone is "coerced" is absurd, which is what the OP implied. That was his choice (he had a good salary, but chose to work more OT) and he knew what he was getting into, so he setup his schedule accordingly to get enough rest. Anyone getting two hours of sleep... That's on them.
  20. Even so, I'm sorry but if anyone is getting two hours of rest with the , they are choosing to do so by taking on excess OT, which is optional. I just don't buy the narrative that anyone is forced into such work schedules, which is what I take issue with.
  21. Anyone working 12+ days is doing so because they want to or they want OT. Are there people that work that long? Sure (it's not uncommon, even outside of the (I've done it plenty of times myself), but to make it sound like the is engaging in some sort of slave labor is just absurd, and yes I know it is difficult to get days off and sick days, etc. I say this as someone who has had relatives that worked lots of OT and worked for the . Yes, they were married with kids, worked OT and definitely slept more than two hours. That is a choice more than anything. I've also known plenty of people that loved working OT and took whatever hours they could. One person I knew stayed in NYC during the week so they could work longer, as they lived in another State. There is also supposed to be a certain amount of time that workers go before they are out and about working again to avoid such situations, so if there are people doing that, that's on them. Then you have people that are adamant about doing their shift and nothing more. That said, no one forces anyone to take any job. Anyone taking a job with long hours knows what the deal is beforehand, just as I work long hours in my job. That's what it requires and it's no secret that the can be long hours as well.
  22. Who is coming to work on two hours of sleep? That's just not true.
  23. I forgot about that. LOL Yeah, they sometimes make more in OT than they do their regular salary and they aren't even working. Just crazy.
  24. I always thought there was some sort of film that went over the windows to protect them. If so, why can't they just replace that? Metro-North doesn't have such issues from what I've personally experienced anyway.
  25. Doesn't mean anything. They usually don't for the local lines, since no one makes a stink about it. Months back I would try to get the M34 and nothing would come. This happened numerous times. No alert whatsoever. A line like that you check the schedule for because it's already infrequent. I've occasionally taken the M15 here and there too. Runs poorly at times, with long waits that I'm sure is due in part to missing trips. I feel for the people that have no choice or need the service for work.
