If I'm not mistaken, in order for the Train to have Culver Express Service in Brooklyn, the MTA would have to short turn all local train service at Kings Highway and let all the express trains serve Coney Island-Stillwell Av all weekday long. This weekend's GO has all the Trains short turning at Kings Highway, probably due to some track switch improvements south of that stop (possibly to upgrade the existing track switch from the express track to the uptown local track, to a double crossover (X) track switch, with trains switching from either track to another track). Also, if you look at the two track maps, you'll see that there's a possibility of having two express trains on the Line, but at a specific segment. Express train service in Brooklyn would have to run between Jay St-MetroTech and Church Av in both directions (with the option of renovating and reopening the lower level Bergen St stop being a possible addition to this topic), with only one express service running the whole segment between Jay St-MetroTech and Kings Highway (peak direction only), the other express service will run between Jay St-MetroTech and Church Av (with regular local stops after the latter stop to/from Coney Island). It will be just the thing that Train riders in Brooklyn will have a pretty good reason to smile about. I've come up with a bunch of test stations suitable to be accommodated for a pilot program, in which we could test out how they can handle twice the ADA-accessibility needs: - 42nd St-Port Authority Bus Terminal - Fordham Road - Gun Hill Road - 8th Av - New Utrecht Av-62nd St - 149th St-Grand Concourse - 5th Av/42nd St-Bryant Park - 57th St-7th Av - Mosholu Parkway - Chambers St-World Trade Center - Mets-Willets Point There'll be more hand-picked ADA Subway Stations in the future. I'll be back with more updates.
  3. Maybe it couldn't hurt to have a bunch of stairwell wheelchair lifts too. I wonder if Acorn Stair Lifts might be interested in helping the MTA installing those lifts at some ADA-accessible Subway Stations. At the 42nd St-Port Authority Bus Terminal Subway Station, there is an entrance at the southwest corner of 8th Av and W 44th St where an elevator and a lift both sit at that entrance, I don't know why (they should be unified into one elevator).

As many of you NYC Transit Forums members know that today marks the 2-month, 25th year anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act of 1990. 2 months ago, many disabled people in wheelchairs across the U.S.A. rejoiced as they all come together to celebrate the 25 years of ADA. On Thursday July 26th, 1990, Then-U.S. president George H.W. Bush signed a bill into law that would require all disabled people to get accommodations being made for them. Because of that, many of them were able to take public transportation like trains, subways, and buses (or Access-A-Ride) to get to their destinations, have easier access to and from their houses, and to have the people they can respect and rely on. Which brings all of us here to this very important blog right here. We all know that some MTA New York City Subway Stations throughout the 5 boroughs are ADA-accessible; some stations have elevators, others have wheelchair ramps, but what if there is a possibility that we can increase the accessibility of each ADA-accessible subway stop or each potential ADA-accessible subway stop by featuring both the elevators and wheelchair ramps (or escalators that can accommodate disabled passengers with wheelchairs) in that particular subway stop simultaneously? 'Can it be done', you ask? It can be done, if we played the cards right, study everything we need to know on each subway station, and make it all work at the right price within the MTA's budget, it will become a reality. I'll be answering all of your questions and provide you with each specific details regarding on which subway station I'm working on getting increased ADA-accessibility.

  8. I think I remember seeing the roll sign on an uptown R-32 Train showing the old Brown roll sign. I was on the downtown R-160 orange Train heading to the Chambers St stop. If it's really true about the R-32s running on the line, there's a possibility that they could either: add a new roll sign that features the current 6th Av orange line into the current R-32 roll sign or replace the Brown roll sign with the new orange one.
  9. Hey buddy, sometimes you never know what to expect from the MTA. That's why everyone's motto is 'Never Say Never!' I know it can be a little aggravated when it comes to a certain subway station that needs ADA requirements, but when it comes to the elderly or disabled people who are in need of an alternative accessibility, we all have to put our faith in them for the better of their commute. I also agree with you about the potential shaft and lift sizes that need to be measured based on the measurements of each subway platform in order to make a certain subway stop ADA-accessible. Which is exactly why I'm planning on starting a blog to talk about a specific topic, and I'll be answering all your questions regarding this topic. I don't know if you're all paying attention to everything that's happening in the MTA lately, but there have been some serious business going on recently with the 149th St-Grand Concourse Subway Station. The South Bronx Community Congress has been rallying people to join them in a serious fight in which they are demanding the MTA to repair and reopen the shuttered elevators that were closed down for security reasons. I can tell that this is a gonna be a very serious fight, which in turn, is gonna be a very hard one to win. Think about it, if a single elevator or all elevators were to be out of service for repairs, senior citizens and disabled passengers might be able to find a silver lining to it that wheelchair ramps could be an alternative method for entering and exiting the subway system.   13. Yes, we can compare the M98 with the M101. They're both limited, yet the M98 runs non-stop along the Harlem River Drive and it hasn't had any good riderships since its debut in 1990. With its service south of E 67th-68th Sts discontinued in favor of the M101 since June 2010, hardly anybody even cares about this bus line because it only runs during weekday rush hours. The M98 deserves to have a service increase one of these days, I'd say we try to help the MTA make the M98 run all weekday long Monday-Friday from 6:00 AM-8:00 PM southbound and from 7:00 AM-9:00 PM northbound, with the service south of E 67th-68th Sts being reinstated for it to serve Baruch College on E 23rd St, just like how they made the S93 run all weekday for the benefit of riders who attend The College Of Staten Island, but even better than ever. This would benefit the bus riders living in Washington Heights who would rely on the M98 so much, that they don't need to rely on taking the or Trains or any other local or limited buses to connect to the East Side of Manhattan anymore.

My fellow NYC Transit Forums brothers and sisters, we have got to boycott this controversial purchase by The Dallah-Alireza Group based out of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, we need to sue that heartless dumbass CEO Khalid Ahmed Al-Kazaz to win back our building and to tell him and his henchmen to stay out of our country forever right now, or else we will rain down on their parade and we will f**k them up. I cannot believe they would do this, I mean, what kind of clueless idiot would try to sell the Empire State Building, only to find out that he/she accidently sold it to a bunch of terroists in disguise as entrepreneurs? Even when I go to or leave Staten Island on the Staten Island Ferry, I like to take pictures of the Empire State Building in between the new twin towers of the World Trade Center and refer to it as "Empirehenge".
