Lucky....I have a lot left: everything in the Bronx, 1 north of 96, Lex north of 59, Rockaways, R south of 59/4 Av, anything east of Sutphin Blvd

    3. Grand Concourse

      Grand Concourse

your not missing much on the R or east of sutphin except for maybe 179th on the F. You should visit all three lex lines in the bronx and take the 1 to 242nd, they are worth it.

  7. Judging from this overview http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-T3-vs-Nikon_D3100 I would still go with Nikon. Just keep in mind that other lens if you buy any must have an autofocus motor or there will be no autofocus at all.
  8. Hmm, the Arnines supposed to leave C.I. by Brighton line. The issue is that there is Manhattan bound track rehabilitation by Dekalb Av, which causes all other trains to go via tunnel. For the R9 this isn't working out because it has to get to 207 yard somehow. So what is the different route that it will use?
  9. Well I have the d5100 and I love it. It is too my first dSLR so I was "in your shoes" not a month ago. But because my budget was different I got the body and more expensive lens separate. The reason why I got this camera, and not the other ones, is the good high ISO performance, which is good for underground/night shots. Still I recommend you to go to the store and test some of the cameras in your budget range. The reason behind this is that different bodies have different ergonomics, this is where it gets personal. For example, some people claim that they can not stand poor ergonomics of low-end nikons, but for me they are beyond adequate, etc. So tell us what you decide to get.
  10. Getting sick in the summer is the worst

  11. Hello to all SLR gurus. I will be buying a D7000 body and will need help choosing lens. I laid my eyes upon nikon 17-55mm f/2.8, but for a noob such as me, the price of this lens is way over the roof. Are there lens you would recommend, that cost up to a $1000? Any help will be appreciated.
  12. Brooklyn, Coney Island train skips Avenue U and 86th Street until 4pm due to emergency work. Wondering what's the emergency
  13. R211 should go to...American Car and Foundry, or Pressed Steel Car Co.
  14. Thus the problem is not whether the doors should be kept open or not, it is problem of 57th St, and the problem is that there is no signals to indicate next leaving train. I also wouldn't count too much on "first to pull in first to leave" I got burned like that couple of times. Keeping doors closed would also create a lot of confusion, as people got used to the current set up would again be confused, and also creates additional crowding on the platform. Because not every T/O, C/R checks cars for passengers, some might wake up in closed cars. Easiest way out of this problem is to have "next train" indicators in turnstile area and on platforms as well.
  15. It makes sense when the temperatures are at or near extremes, the doors are closed to keep the temperature at level. The last thing i would want is to have 90F on both inside and outside the car, having only one door open significantly reduces the heat loss, which in turn can lead to energy savings due to decrease in electricity use by AC/Heating units. Other factors maybe at play as well. Just my thoughts
  16. It's delayed...Again ALSKAW is joint venture between Kawasaki HI and Alstom All above is courtesy of Gold_12TH from subchat
  17. Another bad outcome, is that ABA creates a deficiency in motor cars, while leaving extra "trailer" cars idle. Probably the TA will leave 68s on that shuttle until there are no more spare parts, which may last for couple decades. Financial cutbacks of 2010
  18. I wonder what will happen to the Franklin Av Shuttle once all 75 footers are retired. Will the sets be shortened to 120' AA or will they be lengthened to 180' ABA? The platforms look like they can handle 180' or at least be extended to accommodate increased length of the train.
  19. I would prefer nightly shutdowns over weekend and day/night work anytime. Unfortunately since large percent of our network is NOT underground, some of the work has to be done during day time, rendering nightly shutdown of el, embankment and open cuts useless. Thus system wide overnight shutdowns are unfeasible and that is why there will always be(hope i'm wrong) at least spotty weekend work throughout the whole city. Love how they painted Grand St. ceiling normal white instead of that dirty/creamy white they used to have. Also why don't paint the whole ceiling white, instead painting area above track with black. IMO it would look much better if whole ceiling was white, the station can always use a bit more light.
  20. Stumbled upon this while checking out future G.Os. Coney Island-bound trains skip Avenue U and Neck Rd Weekend, 4 AM Sat to 10 PM Sun, Mar 17 - 18 For service to these stations, take the to Sheepshead Bay and transfer to a Manhattan-bound . For service from these stations, take the to Kings Hwy and transfer to a Coney Island-bound . Note: This service change is scheduled to operate until Nov 16. Is it an error, or there is actually something going on that will take half a year in weekends?
