Now my question is can anybody go to any depot now that MTA Bus has a new contract which states that they will have parity with TA and Mabstoa. I don't think #8006 will start next February, but you have always been the eternal optimist Chris. Lets hope this mass hiring continues into next year. It's been over 3 weeks since I dropped off one of my radio scanners at a shop in Flushing to get it programmed, still waiting, they are going to program all of the bus radio channels, with all of the depots, command center. They are so slow,he told me it should be ready by this weekend..but this is something that had to be done as I was unable to program it myself using scanner software. I will let you know the cost and how it turned out sometime next week.
Bee Flexible #823 Posted June 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2009 I was told by a 180 Livingston representative that they will be contacting drivers for exams 2501?! and 5025 because they are set to expire soon. 2801 will not expire until 2012. That's the list that I am on. I did take a drug screening test but was informed that I will take it again because they need to expire the lists on the 2 prior exams first. More or less, I will not be contacted again for quite a while.

My husband has been on outstanding certification since the beginning of May. You mean they are calling 140 at a time? Any idea what number they are to for the next class(starting next MOnday-5025) Thanks for all the info!

Locomotion69 Posted June 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2009 (Exam 2501)Most of us have no clue as to what you are all talking about. When did you take this exam, try to remember the year you took it in. I am assuming that it was the exam before the 5025 in 2006. If it wasn't then it sounds more like a Mabstoa number,(2801,2901 are the last 2). "I was told by a 180 Livingston representative that they will be contacting drivers for exams 2501?! and 5025 because they are set to expire soon." She or he is giving you lip service. 5025 list expires in Oct/2011.
DOB2RTO Posted June 18, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 18, 2009 Well it's about time. I want others to know what it is like to be a Bus operator in the nations #1 road rage city.......Congrats to those who gets called and pass. Take the job seriously, and listen to your instructors. It's the TA's way, not your way when training and on probation. After that, well we all retort to old ways, but it's still 24 years of TA parole afterwards..... Locomotion69 Posted June 18, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 18, 2009 Am I correct...I think I read if you get hired after 41 years of age it's 20 years? No such thing,I wish that were the case though. 25/55 is the pension for the MTA. If you think about it 55 yrs old is way too young to fully retire. You might live another 25-30 yrs. I don't know how old your husband is Gabchi, but I have heard the MTA doctors give a hard time for older applicants(30+). On the plus side you can say "older" workers are more reliable, safer drivers, have a stronger work ethic, etc. But yeah they will put us older folks under a microscope. Be ready to appeal and fight them at all costs.
ditja Posted June 18, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 18, 2009 Am I correct...I think I read if you get hired after 41 years of age it's 20 years? hire at 41 would retire at age of 66. the #1 guy in my depot been on the job for 37 years, and he doesn't look that old:eek:
Jah Posted June 18, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 18, 2009 If you think about it 55 yrs old is way too young to fully retire. That is complete nonsense!!! All the titles of operating personnel should have a 20 and out like sanitation does. These are physically and mentally demanding jobs that dominate your life for many years. These are physically and mentally demanding jobs that dominate your life for many years. Calm down, what I meant was to completely stop working altogether, even cops who retire in their 40's have to get another job or a new career. Social Security isn't going to be around for us when we get into our 60's. Nobody at age 55 is going to have saved enough to live on for the next 25+ yrs. As for Sanitation, nobody retires after 20 yrs, they stay on the job as long as they can. 20 yrs at any job is a very short career.

It seems to be changing though alot more old people are taking these jobs over the last 5 years. I would have to do 29 years. I came in at 26, and would have to do 29 to meet the 55 criteria. Thing is you do not have to. After 25 years, you freeze your pension until you reach 55, then you collect your full pension. Most choose to stay over 25 until they reach 55, but do not have to. Thing is, pay is good, and most just don't want to retire right away......

Then you have those people who never retire because they can't afford to. Your financial circumstances really dictate when you can retire and not your age. What is the shortest amount of years where you can collect a partial pension? 10,15 yrs? I think they call that vesting out.

Your are vested after 5 years. If the tier 5 pension gets passed that changes to 10 years.
Zman Posted June 19, 2009 Share #20 Posted June 19, 2009 hire at 41 would retire at age of 66. That's if the person is looking for a full pension. Otherwise he/she can retire with a partial pension once reaching age 62. Someone who really comes down here late (i.e. a station agent starting at age 53) can retire with a partial pension after just 10 years of service; however, it would be wise if the person in this instance works until he/she can collect full S.S., unless he/she has already made financial arrangements for the future, as this type of partial pension yields a big chunk less than the first instance above.
