Shortline Bus Posted June 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2009 While here in New York area we dodged a bullet with proposed doomesday budget cuts and fare hikes on the in San Diego County, Ca. however which includes San Diego City, because of loss of $14 Million in state funding from Sacramento San Diego MTS(their version of the MTA) has created their version of a semi doomesday cuts. This despite record ridership in last few years on their buses and light rail/trolley. The main part of the cuts is the blue line(Old Town SD-San Yirdso)running between Centre City San Diego and the border stop to Tijuana, Mexico ending weekend(Friday and Saturday nights) hourly overnight service between 2-5am. Also most of the MTS system busiest bus lines late evening service daily from about 9pm-Midnight now operating every 30-60 minute headways instead of every 20-30 minutes. The busy routes include the #2, 7, 15, 20, 115, 901 and 932. The reason why i care about San Diego is because this is where both of my parents (retired) and Older sister now live. Here the lowdown. rmcconnell Posted June 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2009 I question MTS's implementation of the new "Super Loop" service in University City. Wouldn't it be more prudent to start service in August, rather than June, when university is actually in session? According to others I've heard, they're basically running empty buses since the service started recently. They could have saved some money by delaying the opening until August.
