Maserati7200 Posted June 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2009 Hey everyone. I became a subway fan in October-November 2007, so before that, I only rode lines I needed to get places. And I don't remember much about the rolling stock. So what I would like to know: what was the system like before R143's rolled in? After the R143's rolled in? I would like to know what equipment was on each line from effected by this and what each yard contained. Thanks.

The Redbirds that was Rebuilt and had A/C intalled were the R26,28,29,33ML and R36ML/WF, some of The R29's were the 1st to have them in the 1970's before they were Redbirds, The R33WF singles did not have A/C because it was a single car and plus it would be a very heavy for those cars. In the summer the R33 singles were stored due to the Hotness of the subway car so the was 10 cars during the summer months. Here's a list of Redbirds that were Rebuilt The R26/28's Late 1985-1987 Rebuilt by MK The R29's 1985-1987 Rebulit by MK The R33 World's fair Singles and the R36World's Fair 1985 by Coney Island The R33 Mainline Cars (9076-9305) Late 1987-1989 Rebuilt by 207th st yard, (8805-9075) Rebuilt in 1989-1992 by 207th st The R36 Main Line cars Rebuilt in 1985 by ether CI or 207th,

R32 3838 Posted June 28, 2009 Share #15 Posted June 28, 2009 after the GOH, the R33 singles were the only cars without AC. anyone got a picture or video of a ( using the rebuilt R38s? i saw R32s on the (, but never R38s. the and used R62As VERY rarely as well during the 90s. . I hade ridden an R38 on the 3 times in 1996 and 1997 and in early 1998, There is 1 photot with an R38 assigned to at the 207th st shops, But it was Rare to see an R38 , Rerember the B Divison was short on cars after the R30 Retirement from 1993-2001 the B Divsion was short on cars, in 2004 after the manhattan Brigde constuction the B divison did not have a car shortage, and this is a Fact the R143's replaced the R30's but 7 years later, The R30's were supoosed to be retiered in 2001-2002 with the R26.28's and r29's but the R30's were Rebuilt but the TA wasted money Overhauling them and after 4 years they were retierd, And Also the did not have A/C so that's another reason why. If a Line need an extra subway car they would yank one from the closet yard, Here's an example, The (B)'s terminal is 168th st, the 207th st yard is right there so if the is short of a trainset for Rush Hour 207th st would bring out an R38 and assign that Trainset of r38's to the , Also on a sunday Night I was at 42nd st in 1997 and I was on my way home from the bronx and waiting for the train and all of a sudden an R68A train came out of nowhere and trust me anybody that don't beleive me on that one that's alright because it is unbelevable to see an R68A on the but I was 7 back then and I knew what subway car that was, and I looked at the numbers and It came from the Back storage area at 168th st from the . Like I said before, they were shooting movie (forgot what) for the B and required R38s on that line. Therefore, some R68As went to the A.
