lilbluefoxie Posted June 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2009 When were the BMT numbers removed from the subway cars? nycsubway.org has photos from the 70s with some trains still having the old BMT numbers. I could imagine that system confusing a lot of people especially in ares where BMT lines are near IRT lines like in Brooklyn.
Eric B Posted June 28, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2009 Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.5; en-us; T-Mobile G1 Build/CRB43) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Mobile Safari/525.20.1) In the 70's, the only trains left to have numbers were the R11's, which were usually on the Franklin shuttle (I remember seeing a 16 displayed once). The only other cars to display numbers were the D Types and some of the other pre-war cars; all of which were gone, and the R16's, which had the signs replaced with the nre colored signs installed for the Chrystie St changes, which discontinued the BMT numbers for good. EE Broadway Local Posted August 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2009 The R11s carried the number to the end in 1976. Thus the Franklin Avenue Shuttle was the 7. Other B.M.T. numbers were retired in 1965 with the D-Triplexes. The first B.M.T.letter was the , carried by R27s in 1960.
