We Need An (8)

Recommended Posts

It's not that these people are lying to you, it's just that they have misleading information which they edit Wikipedia with.

so teh pix they have there of the 11 is a lie or something? like its not true?

Don't the R62 signs have alot of unused numbers, I think they have 10 tru 14 in red or green.

Yea i herd That

10-green

11-purple

12-green

13-red

14-green

The 8 on the R62 signs was supposeldy designated for the <6>, and it was probably 10 or 14 that was designated for some sort of 4 special (maybe to Flatbush). But they're not going with double numbers now, and the digital signs on the 142's won't fit them

Are you Sure About That

He's a Train Operator, he should know better than any railfan or wikipedia entry. Please don't start doubting the employees here.

If you're asking about the double numbers, the signs are not a solid "screen" of LED's (like the ones on the 110A's were). All it consists of is the circular array of LED's, interlaced with the diamond array, and the square alphanumeric field, with space inbetween. The square fits the single character just perfectly. So to have double numbers (or letters), you would have to make them thinner; really thinner (both the total character width and the thickness of the lines maing it up), and then they wouldn't be legible.

If you were asking about the 8 replacing the <6>, someone came out with a list of designations. Plus it would make sense. It would have to be of the green letters. And the purple "11" could only be in one place. And since 8 is close to 6, it made the most sense.

It's not really set in stone, though.

But Why dont they just make the <6> the 8...it doesent sound so hard

Hard to ans but ill try

Maybe Becuz they split the Pelham (6) Local which ends at Parkchester during AM/PM hrs. The <6> how ever heads to Pelham Bay, which turns back into a (6) Lcl(PM South Bound). Similar to the (7), but the <7> is the Flushing Express, which makes the (7) The Flushing Local from TSQ to Main St.

Im guessing also cuz the (8) was the 3rd avenue El(Which it was) and by 1973, the (NYCT) discontinued the (8). ANd its unused.

Doesnt the TA have to fund for using an unused letter or number in the system?

If they want to provide extra train service for a new line they'll do. They did that with the (V) in 2001.

Well i beleive Lexington Av needs one more train it might also lessen the crowedness

Even if Lexington Avenue Line gets an extra train it will still be crowded, you have to remember its only 1 subway line on the East Side of Manhattan so lets cross our fingers and pray that the 2nd Avenue Line gets done fast so it can relief the congestion of the Lexington Avenue Line!
