So...what's a better railfanning day for the Subway - 4th july or 5th july?

I'll say the 4th....maybe somewhere on an elevated line you'll get a train and fireworks @ the same time!:tup:

If the fireworks was still on the FDR you would get a good view via the Jamaica line over the williamsburg. Now it could be hard -_-b

4th July, Saturday schedule has trains running more often IINM. Also, you can get a good pic of a train and the fireworks on the or tomorrow, though the west side change might change that...M42 maybe? Astoria Blvd. should have a nice view regardless.

For pictures with fireworks and all that junk I would say the 4th, then there is more crowds=more security. Just for the night should be fine though!

Thanks, everyone for your replies. I didn't even think about the fireworks (duh) but was thinking in terms of nummber of trains which sounds about same for both days as it's holiday sched on saturday anyway. Thanks again :tup:

I'd say to try both, if you can. But both days, it's a Sunday schedule.
