Earle Baldwin Posted November 22, 2008 Share #26 Posted November 22, 2008 I am a fan of railroading in all forms so I'm very happy to see a forum for freight railroading. Regarding the comments about the use of wide cabs, this feature was widely applied to Canadian National motive power for years prior to becoming generally accepted practice on U.S. roads. In fact, the wide cab was often referred to as the Canadian cab. The first American class of locomotive built in the hood unit configuration to be equipped with the wide cab feature was Union Pacific's massive 6600 horsepower DDA40X locomotive. It was nicknamed the "Centennial" because it was delivered in 1969 during the Centennial celebration of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. Forty-seven units were constructed and delivered to UP by Electro-Motive. Here's a link to an excellent DDA40X reference page: http://www.steamlocomotive.com/centennials/ Regards, Earle

Kexpress Posted December 1, 2008 Share #29 Posted December 1, 2008 yes here are some of my union pacific photos Up here in SECONN our local boys are Providence & Worcester. I like them because their equipment is almost always clean and shiny and shows pride in their work. The Housatonic RR operates in the NW CT/SW MA area The New England Central operates between New London CT and Palmer Mass. I have more but I'm being too much of a baby to go look them up right now Nice Pictures!
