Y2Julio Posted July 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2009 Well, I decided to head out to Governor's Island today. Pretty nice place if I might add, though they still are doing changes and portions of the Island was closed off to the public due to construction on the old Coast Guard buildings. Here is a small fraction of the shots I took.
Messino Posted July 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2009 Very nice pics, your pics seem to always come out very good. What kind of camera do you use? Is it a Digital SLR? Are you using a polarizer filter?

Messino Posted July 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2009 I have a Nikon D40 DSLR, no polarizer filter on it though I need to get one. The way the sky is coming out with such contrast in the pics it looks like there is a polarizer filter on. Pretty nice. Nikon is the best IMO. Rutgers Tube Posted July 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 5, 2009 Excellent shots. That cannon mounted on a movable pedestal is sick. And I see that Grimaldi's was a mob scene, as always.

Rutgers Tube Posted July 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks. The Canon is not movable. I tried it lol The island has played an active role in pretty every major war, but I think the last time those cannons were actually fired were in the 1780s. There is an awesome cannon and cannon ball monument at John Paul Jones Park on 4 Avenue at 101 Street in Bay Ridge. I'd assume that since your avatar is the R train logo, you'd probably know where that is. If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth the trip down there, especially now that the weather is nice.

Rutgers Tube Posted July 7, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 7, 2009 Been there, done that B) Is that picture from this past spring? I pruned some of the trees right around the monument, and I was surprised that the one within the fence near the tower looked as decent as it does, though you can't see much of it. Anyway, I love that cannon, and that's a really nice photo too, with the bridge and and the trees leafing out.
