Maserati7200 Posted July 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2009 After all option II is done from both manufacturers, how would the B division look? Now what looks like is going to happen (after all Jamaica 60' SMEEs are gone) is that the R46's at Jamaica will push out the R32's on the , and the R160's will take the place of those R46's going to the . What I'm not so sure of is the calculations. How many R160's will be on the ? : R44, R46 : R68/R68A : R44, R46 : R68 : R160 : R160 (maybe some R46?) : R46 : R160 : R143, R160 : R160 : R160 : R68/R68A, R160 : R160, R46 : R68 : R46 (maybe some R160?) : R160 : R160
mark1447 Posted July 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2009 All i can think of is No more Rail Fan Window for the B Division if you love the RFW. Only thing is look at it via the Cab Window, which of course R44-68 may not work as some T/Os block the view BTW are the ©s really gonna run R44? or R46 Only? BTW you forgot Rkway R44

BTW you forgot Rkway R44 Oh, yea forgot the Rockaway . And once the R32's are gone, the would most likely fully share fleets to make things easier for service. So think the may run R44's

Dave160 Posted July 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2009 I think if the power issues get worked on in the rockaways, maybe 160's will go to the . But that's just me. I saw more 160 testing on the , but it doesnt mean anything.
BJC Posted July 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2009 that suck if J line will be all 160...I've been thankful to ride R-42 on the J line, since it's hard to get one now.

Yeah, especially since on average there are only four sets of them on the . I think it's time for me to railfan the line before they're all gone. MattTrain Posted July 12, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 12, 2009 Interesting so according to this list, the and trains will be using R160s when the older cars are gone. That'll be interesting to see.

I saw more 160 testing on the , but it doesnt mean anything. All of option II R160's are going to Jamaica. Also, all R160's start testing on the before going to the other lines to test. That is most likely because they are delivered to 207th street yard, which serves the .
553 Bridgeton Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 What will it look like........? ......One bouring place and nothing but "this as Brooklyn bound/this is a manhattan bound/this is a Coney Island bound".
S78 via Hylan Posted July 14, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 14, 2009 I agree because the SMEE's are awesome to have rather than nearly every line becoming NTT.
R421969 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 14, 2009 We r all gonna see if those million dollar-plus cars were worth that in the next few years...anyone think the r160s r gonna have issues..
AgedPolaris Posted July 14, 2009 Share #13 Posted July 14, 2009 What will it look like........? ......One bouring place and nothing but "this as Brooklyn bound/this is a manhattan bound/this is a Coney Island bound". Haha, I love the R160 but I can't barely stand those automated announcements. Makes the city seem like one big airport. As far as the R160s having issues in the future, I'm sure issues will mostly pertain to the automated announcements and snazzy LCD displayed and LED strips. If it gets really bad (although I see no reason why it would) I can see them just placing plastic strips in place on the R142. Being that I'm sure most of agree the R179 will be similar to the R160 is look and sound, better get used to the sound of whirring motors.
Maserati7200 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted July 14, 2009 If you ask me, the R143's have been holding up very well. Since they are almost identical to the R160's, I'd say thr R160's are going to have the same fate.
Paul P Posted July 14, 2009 Share #15 Posted July 14, 2009 Yea, I agree, the announcements are so repeating and boring. SMEE trains have some nostalgia in them...
LRG Posted July 14, 2009 Share #16 Posted July 14, 2009 Yea, I agree, the announcements are so repeating and boring. SMEE trains have some nostalgia in them... Not just the SMEEs, but the R62As on the (7)/<7>, which will be the ONLY line to have the railfan window until the R188s come in. The R62s aren't going to be retired anytime soon. MTR Admiralty Posted July 15, 2009 Share #18 Posted July 15, 2009 Based on my calculations, I arrived at this: R44, R46 ( R68/A R44, R46 R68 R160 R160 (according to my calculations, the F will be entirely R160 when the delivery is complete) R46 R44, R46 R160A R143, R160A R160A R160 R68/A (expected to be fully R160), R160 R46, R160 R68 R46 R160 R160
Far Rock Depot Posted July 16, 2009 Share #19 Posted July 16, 2009 BTW, The Rock Pk(S) already sees R46s in service. and its safe to assume that the and RP(S) will share cars. R44s and R46s

Sea Beach Posted July 17, 2009 Share #22 Posted July 17, 2009 when are the 160s ging on the line? end of August-begining of September is what I heard,to replace the R42/32,which is like 8 to 10 sets.
geoking66 Posted July 17, 2009 Share #23 Posted July 17, 2009 It'll be a much nicer division. Since the E and F got R160s, I actually use the IND at times; I almost always use the 7th instead because it's cleaner and more bearable.
Railfaner100 Posted July 17, 2009 Share #24 Posted July 17, 2009 I think the Jamaica yard is going to get the R160Bs with the alstom propulsion in the second option order, while the Coney Island yard gets the other half of the R160Bs with siemens propulsion in the option 2 order.
