Railfaner100 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2009 When the R160A and R160B option 2 orders are delivered and arrive to the mta property, which subway lines are they going to be assigned to and what yards will they be heading to? trainfan22 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2009 Most likely ethier Jamaica or Coney Island, ENY will have a part in one of those orders for sure because of the R42s still running over there.
Maserati7200 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2009 All of it is going to Jamaica. The R160's will push out the R46's to the to replace R32's.

Railfaner100 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted July 14, 2009 When you said that all of the R160s from the option 2 order are going to the Jamaica yard specifically, which R160 orders from the option 2 order will be heading to the Jamaica yard? In the R160 option 2 orders there are four kinds of R160s, the 32 CBTC compatible R160A-1s in 4 car sets, the 210 R160A-2s in 5 car sets, the 70 R160Bs with alstom traction motors(9803-9872), and the other 70 R160Bs with siemens traction motors(9873-9942). Which of these R160 option 2 orders will the Jamaica yard be receiveing?
S78 via Hylan Posted July 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2009 I heard 9803-9872 are going to CI. The CBTC R160As are supposed to go to the and then the non-CBTC R160As will go to the to get rid the last of the R42s. Given that, the rest might go to Jamaica. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Railfaner100 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted July 14, 2009 How can R160Bs 9803-9872 go to the Coney Island yard when they have alstom traction motors, meaning that they are suppose to go to the Jamaica yard.
S78 via Hylan Posted July 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2009 Coney Island Yard does have existing R160Bs with Alstom motors (8713-8842) so why can't 9803-9872 go there?
Railfaner100 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted July 14, 2009 If Coney Island yard gets R160Bs 9803-9872 which have alstom traction motors then what will happen with R160Bs 9873-9942 which have siemens traction motors? So basically you are saying is that the Coney Island yard will be getting all of the R160Bs from the option 2 order with both the alstom traction motor cars and with the siemens traction motors cars. Maserati7200 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 That can't be. Some of them have to go to ENY to repalce the R42's. Yup. I forgot about those. I should have said a majority of them are going to Jamaica.

So basically you are saying is that the Coney Island yard will be getting all of the R160Bs from the option 2 order with both the alstom traction motor cars and with the siemens traction motors cars. so? Siemens and Alstom R160Bs can operate together. I am quite certain Coney Island will still get some R160s to run on the . Jamaica Yard may not be able to handle the rest of the R160 order considering how small it is compared to other yards. it cannot even hold all 752 R46s there. that is why so many cars on the are stored at Coney Island the 36th Street Yards. Railfaner100 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted July 14, 2009 So, basically which R160 orders from the second option orders will be assigned to the Jamaica yard?
Joe C Posted July 14, 2009 Share #13 Posted July 14, 2009 So, basically which R160 orders from the second option orders will be assigned to the Jamaica yard? A portion or all of the R160A-2/B cars in the option 2 order with the alstom onix will go to Jamaica.they want all of their R160's to have the same propulsion.32 R160A-1 will go to ENY. Here's how i have it so far: Alstom-built 5-car units, Alstom Onix Propulsion, Option II R-160A-2s 9593-9802 (210) @ Jamaica Kawasaki-built 5-car units, Alstom Onix Propulsion, Option II R160Bs 9803-9942 (140) @ Jamaica
Railfaner100 Posted July 15, 2009 Author Share #16 Posted July 15, 2009 So, the Jamaica yard will be getting 210 R160A-2s in 5 car sets and 140 R160Bs with alstom traction equipment from the second option order of the R160s.

Yes that's what he just said. Along with that, ENY should be getting 50 R160A-1 in 4 car sets to kick off the remaining R42s.

MTR Admiralty Posted July 15, 2009 Share #19 Posted July 15, 2009 http://www.subchat.com/read.asp?Id=802503 This is from Widecab: It appears Option II R-160B's 9803-9872 will be assigned to Coney Island in their place. 9803-9807 arrived at Coney Island last Friday evening. Don't yet know for sure but my guess is these 70 have Siemens propulsion despite proclamations to the contrary. Then it makes sense, as 9103-9162 are universal with the Alstom-equipped cars already being assigned to Jamaica, while 9803-9872 would be compatible with the Siemens equipped cars (8848-9102) already at CIY. The advance transfer might be to get the R-32/40M/42's from Jamaica off the road faster...OR it could be to free up more R-46's for the A. Someone else out there might have better info. MTR Admiralty Posted July 15, 2009 Share #21 Posted July 15, 2009 Thats what I originally thought. But then people her convinced me otherwise... I wouldn't be convinced unless it was a realiable source. The 32 R160A-1s will go to the , they will be delivered with CBTC. A few sets that are on the now will bump the R42s on the
Maserati7200 Posted July 15, 2009 Share #22 Posted July 15, 2009 I wouldn't be convinced unless it was a realiable source. No, lol. i meant that what you posted was confirmation to what I originally thought. What I was saying is that I originally thought what WideCab5 posted would happen, than many posts on this forum had me leaning the other way. So when I saw that I realized my original thoughts are most likely correct.
