Rutgers Tube Posted July 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2009 Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8330/4.5.0.77 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105) If destination and roll signs are programmed via on-board computer on the NTT's, how are the route and roll signs on the R32, R44 and R46 controlled? Can they be reprogrammed mid-trip in the event of a re-route?
Maserati7200 Posted July 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2009 I believe they can. On the R32's it would only be the front flipdot sign and the R44/46 it would be the side signs.

In the T/O cab there is a keypad which the T/O uses to punch in a code for whichever route they need displayed.
LRG Posted July 16, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2009 The R32s have the front route flipdot sign that can display any letter. It can even display numbers! The R44s and R46s front signs, from what I heard, are controlled automatically instead of a crank. The side signs have a code for the train route, just like the buses do. INDman Posted July 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 17, 2009 Correct. In the T/O cab there is a keypad which the T/O uses to punch in a code for whichever route they need displayed. Ah, it is the C/R that usually sets the side signs on the R44/46 but the T/O must set the end signs.
Rutgers Tube Posted July 17, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted July 17, 2009 When did the R32's change from the fixed end signs to front flip dot signs that are used today?
INDman Posted July 17, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 17, 2009 It was changed when they were GOHed in the late 1980's. I don't remember the exact years.
mark1447 Posted July 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 17, 2009 When did the R32's change from the fixed end signs to front flip dot signs that are used today? During GOH[General Overhaul] that was in the 1980s to early 90s. Also the R32s also come with Number digits as well. not to be confused for IRT use... btw how does the dial or flipdot looks like for th R32/R38? I know the R44/46s the punch version is exactly like the ones used on Buses, but dunno how the 32/38s are like.

The dial is located around the area where the conductor controls on the A-end of the car is. If I see the inside of an R32 I'll post it up.
