Fire North of Queensboro Plaza on the Astoria Line

Recommended Posts

I was walking after leaving summer camp and when I was near Queensboro Plaza, I saw smoke coming from the (N) and (W) elevated track north. When I looked underneath the EL, I saw flames coming out of a piece of track! There were lots firetrucks there. I manage to take a picture of them putting out the fire. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this fire?

I don't understand what happened today. Our whole railfan trip group was caught in this mess. Anyway, first we heard debris on the tracks at Queensboro Plaza. Then we heard a smoke condition at Lex and 59th. Must have been a combination of both I guess.
