Remember when...

we had to deal with this. Or at least some of us did. I never rode the (W) from Stillwell Av but I could imagine it must have been a pack train every morning.

The (:) was removed from the West End line. The (D) was removed from the Brighton line. The (W) was the only train terminating at Stillwell Av.

I never realized that the N didn't have a shuttle bus or a route on the main map. 86 Street was on the other side of the CI Shops which was a pretty long trip to Stillwell.

Was there a shuttle or route bus from 86 to Stillwell?

Nope.

Some options were:

1.) W from Pacific or 36 Sts to Stillwell

2.) N to New Utrecht-62nd St for the W

3.) Exit at 86 St and walk And / Or the B1 Bus to either

A) Avenue X F Station for the F Shuttle Bus or

:) to the 25 Av station for the W.

Nothing connecting Gravesend-86 St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av Direct.

The connections at 36 and Pacific must have been major transfer points during this time. Not like they are not now, it must have been even busier then.

This is the one that I couldn't wait for to be completed. During the 80s I always wondered what it would be like to see all four tracks of the Manhattan bridge running trains.

I felt the same way. I always wanted to see the Manhattan Bridge with Yellow and Orange lines crossing simultaneously; plus the Brighton with 2 different colors as opposed to just orange or just yellow. Now its both.. :)
