Anyone into Black Eyed Peas? They are now for the moment the most popular

contompery pop band in the world. Most important this week on the US pop single charts they also broke a record. The Peas have now spent 20 straight weeks atop the Billboard pop charts with their consecutive smash hits "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling." "Boom Boom Pow' just spent 12 weeks at #1 the longest stint non-interuprated at #1 on the US pop charts since 1997 Elton John tribute song to Princess Diana w/ "Candle in the Wind 1997."

Also this is the first time since the mid-1990's when Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey separetly and together (also signing duet to decade biggest hit of the '90's "One Sweet Day") domnated the nation's music charts.

I admit i am not a 'diehard' fan but i also like "Boom Boom Pow' but i prefer personally the earlier Peas stuff especially "Where is the love'? BEP is one of the few current pop/R&B i like myself in recent years. Still prefer stuff from the 1980/90's but that another topic.

Feel free guys to comment especially from ""Peas" fans on the boards?

Here news story.

Black Eyed Peas break record for most weeks atop Pop Singles chart on Billboard Hot 100

Will.i.am would love to say "I told you so" to all the people who have bashed the Black Eyed Peas in the past, but he won't — even though the group just made history on the Billboard charts.

"There's a part of me that wants to be cocky, but then I can't be cocky," the 34-year-old Peas leader said in a phone interview from Los Angeles to the Associated Press on Tuesday. "There's a part of me that wants to call out all of my other peers and competitors. I don't want to say no names because I'm not like that, but part of me wants to do that. And would it be wrong if I did that? Yes it would. I'm not like that."

This week the R&B/Hip-Hop-based foursome, also starring "Fergie' who have had their share of critics, will have topped Billboard's Hot 100 singles charts for 20 consecutive weeks, the most ever by an act. "Boom Boom Pow" and the song that dislodged it, "I Gotta Feeling," have been at the top of the charts for 12 and eight weeks, respectively. The previous record was set another by another popular Pop/R&B Group Boyz II Men in the mid-1990's who held it at 16 weeks. "Boom Boom Pow' is also an major worldwide hit hitting #1 in dozens of countries as well.

Though the band has had big hits over the years, "Boom Boom Pow" was their first No. 1 pop single. Will.i.am says he's surprised how successful the song became.

"I knew that 'Boom Boom Pow' would be big in the clubs, but I didn't know it would be that potent with the world, outside of the club. So that my accountant's aunt would be like: Black Eyed Peas, I love 'Boom Boom Pow!'" he laughed. "I didn't know it was going to be that. I didn't know that teachers would say I like 'Boom Boom Pow.'"

But the success is not pure luck, will.i.am explains. Though he says the band didn't listen to the radio when creating their latest disc, "The E.N.D.," he says they did heavy research by partying at underground nightclubs and events. Also the songs were influenced by several dance classics of the 'disco' era of the 1970's and early 1980s as well.

They chose "Boom Boom Pow" as the first single after the response it got when they debuted it at a Grammy party this year. After its success, they used the same idea for their current hit.

"When I picked up 'I Gotta Feeling' we tested in the clubs, looked at people, how they responded to a song they didn't know. We're looking at what's the best summer song out of all the songs, let's go out there and have a party," he explained.

So they had a party. And the response was great.

Well that's good to know...they make excellent music!

Amen to that..

I do believe that part of their success comes to the areas of the world that they have spread to. I heard "Boom Boom Pow" before I went to vacation over here. However, when I went on vacation (to Guyana), I started to hear "I Got A Feeling". It was definitely a popular song that you heard on the radio and in TV commercials. So this would be one of the many reasons to why they are so great in the charts.

Black eyed peas is one of the very few 'modern' r&B/pop bands i listen to. I enjoy some but not all of them ssongs. Anyhow congrats to them on this impresive feat.
